  1. Ahhh? The old selective quotations out of context. The well worn last refuge of the person who lost the argument. Afghanistan CAN be a useful measure because in so far as it is so extreme. That is even the starving will refrain from theft if penalties are harsh enough. That?s all it would lend weight to nothing else. Thought obvious but there you go.
  2. But what WOULD be the burglary rate in the USA without the strict incarceration policies of many states? Quite arguably many many many times higher. You can?t compare the UK & USA as though they were identical in such a crude way. Like comparing apples & oranges. Crime rates massively affected by all sorts of variable including age demographics (hint: read Freakonomics). Homer Simpson would probably have an adept word for your statement dog kennel?
  3. You are just attracting attention to desperate thieves with a lockbox, who will be deliriously salivatingimagining what will be inside by occupant demonstrating they are not in the house for long periods!!! Have you seen what happens with ?secure? cash machines bolted into brick walls? Thieves steal a JCB and pull the whole thing out. NOT A SMART ARSE COMMENT THEY DID JUST THAT 2 YEARS AGO AT FOREST HILL TRAIN STATION JUST DOWN THE ROAD FROM ED! In the centre of high street. At train station awash with cctv, with three council cctv cameras right opposite.
  4. dog kennel 3 strikes & out policy How can you brand it a Tory policy when the Guardian article clearly states it was enthusiastically implemented by NEW LABOUR Home Secretary jack straw. You are one of those people who can never admit you were wrong lol 20 years ago was a long time ago yet it appears I remember the details well? given all mention of this vanished without a trace in the media or online for that matter. People strung out on drug addictions do not care about anything just their next fix. Agree. Stiff jail sentence in prisons where there are zero access to any drug (or even cigarettes or coffee like in the USA) might make them think twice. Maybe a drug addict bike thief should also lose their council flat if convicted of 3 offences. Or 1 offence! There are lots of options. In Afghanistan despite starvation theft was eradicated in 24 hours by threat of amputation. Point I?m making there is always something that will act as a deterrent, by this example which is obviously OTT. The lax soft touch approach here is literally asking them to do it. So guess what, they?ll happily oblige. These types of chaotic people you describe are DESPERATE for boundaries. Ergo give them the boundaries in the form of penalties tougher not softer. For their benefit for our benefit!!! Getting into current affairs a bit, but this does DIRECTLY affects us living in ED. This is DIRECTLY why people are going out of area, climbing over fences into our private gardens while we are sleeping yards away, cutting off our bikes/property & then selling them in our faces online THE SAME DAY. Maybe you can afford to keep buying new bikes every year so you are happy to give up to say nothing works in which case good for you!
  5. 3 strikes Burglary Law in the UK under Tony B Liar FROM THE GUARDIAN ARCHIVE ? UK news Three strikes anti-burglary policy comes into force The government's crime reduction strategy Wed 1 Dec 1999 13.32 GMT From now on, burglars convicted of breaking into private homes three times will be sentenced to a minimum of three years in jail. The measure, which was first introduced by the Conservatives, is implemented by the home secretary Jack Straw. It is expected to swell the prison population by 4,000-5,000 over the next ten years. ? ?Life sentence? in fact was 3 years, my error. Although come to think of it it?s the same thing. 😜 Now facts established. Back to my point, whatever happened to it?
  6. In South Africa they use electrified fences with lethal voltage, shards & broken glass (which is legal to protect private dwellings). Guess what? You guessed it. Going down this route is not the answer.
  7. Society has for a long time been gradually disintegrating? now it has seeped into the leafy streets of ED. The stupidity of the ?smartphone?, social media, online ordering of drugs & mentally ill equality agenda (suffocating out any actual REAL issues affecting all). Whole delivery van nicked?!? 9 thefts? Something is wrong. Really really wrong. I?m not sure our writing about it on EDF is going to cut it to address this. Maybe the EDF is part of the problem as a easy option against real action. Where is the response here from the local police command? Or what about all those PCSOs who are meant to walk beats & ?liaise/interact with the community?? London Assembly member? Crime commissioner? London Mayor? Borough mayor? Hello?!? Or you lot just take all our money, have no accountability, get a nice pension paid by us & that?s that? 😠
  8. You might have done a cursory google before you declared it false dog kennel 🙄 Used to be active in ?New Labour? party so it?s not some fantasy. Used to be ?before the war crime of Iraq etc etc etc, then I & the others with at least one braincell copped on before correctly rescinding our affiliation. But back to the issue was very a much a manifesto policy, Tony B Liar was popular at the time & the policy (rightly or wrongly) was also popular. We can?t afford to lock up EVEN the serious violent criminals or terrorists so agree never going to work. Or even it seems Tony who IS (by judgement of 87% of public) guilty of being a war criminal. dog kennel maybe you gotta workable solution to out-of-control bike thefts in ED? Or you are super happy with everything ?just as it is?. 😌
  9. Sadly guys & girls I have to point out that levels of dishonesty in modern Britain these days means that people you never suspect by that I mean neighbours, friends & business acquaintances are opportunistically tucking away your parcels. Very rare some clever ?bad ?un? in a van is sneakily following a delivery driver like a Poundland James Bond. Extremely poor payer compared to drug dealing, knife mugging or bike theft (some bikes worth ?1k+). It?s ?respectable? people we know? even in a friendly place like East Dulwich. Gives me no pleasure to say. 😞
  10. Remember that early Tony Blair policy? ?Three strikes you?re out?.3 x theft/ burglary convictions they get automatic life sentence? Wonder whatever happened to that lol? Probably 90% of some boroughs would have ended up locked up. Still, your sheds bicycles cars garages homes would be safe, plus a lot of wrong uns would be exactly where they deserve to be. Think three chances is very generous. Fast forward to now? the Katy Price Court sentence/ convicted Romanian criminals put out on our streets because ?Romanian prison cells are too small?. Staggering. Maybe we should have a ?help yourself? day every month where we hand out stuff to the criminals so we don?t get our locks or properties damaged.
  11. The criminals have absolutely no fear at all. Proper law abiding people living with their possessions in East Dulwich must be like Christmas coming every day. Posting a PHOTO of the item with their mobile number the same day! Don?t wanna sound super right wing but theft fell to near zero under the new Taliban regime out in Afghanistan. Local business owners & traders (even non regime supporters) are delighted. Just trying to illustrate by real world example what works & what does NOT work. FACT. Attention politicians, crime commissioner & met police! What?s that? Oh sorry, you?re very busy online enforcing ?equality? on Facebook, ah ok, so sorry 🙄
  12. Success! Finally we have (some) newspapers available in hard copy at Grove Vale Library (next to East Dulwich station) after much effort by the library users. Great result for older generation or those who find technology awkward especially. In addition, I also received an apology from Southwark council about the ?less than ideal? way my question was responded to about the matter in first instance. Just goes to show that perseverance DOES pay off when you know you are right. 10-0 against the brow beaters, manipulators, gas lighters, story tellers, fake identity mongers & local busy bodies. Your issue - you can do it!
  13. Nigello Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I hope and trust your neighbours have reported > this to the police. That way there is a chance > this will be stopped. Good luck Probably fake plates/ stolen untraceable ?pool? car. This is the most irritating, aggrieving & consequential crime but the one generating the least police action.
  14. The police don?t deal with real crimes anymore. Credit card fraud - they divert you to the ?industry body?. Burglary - they don?t even turn up, you are buck passed to reporting online. Fight in west end - they take 10 minutes to answer 999. Meanwhile the ambulance turns up before police even answer the 999 call* *this actually happened & I complained The uk is the third world now. Accept it! What planet are you on to think they would even record it? Upset snowflakes on Facebook? you get a squad car of police tear up to your gaffe
  15. Still not a sausage on the proudly signed ?Newspapers & Magazines? shelf at Grove Vale Library in East Dulwich Maybe the LEZ friendly electric vehicles suffering from dead batteries 😢 Troll reply: ?Maybe YOU should get a life.?. Saved you trouble as I done it for ya!!!
  16. Hope you aren?t disparaging the Super Soaraway Sun dogkennel? That really WOULD get me ?bitchin? n? moanin?? again
  17. The council have got back to me. Long story short they are in the process of trying to source a new supplier. Happy with the response. Very promising 🙂
  18. Listen my friend Nice try This issue is more about being misled for three weeks followed by a rude, disrespectful & offensive response to a polite question, rather than something which (even for me) is trivial Imagine if I was after something important? For a job interview, court case or planning meeting? Lucky enough I can get access to the said items for free up west & get free drink with it Regards your t!t obsession can I suggest you start a new discussion online. Somewhere. 😌.
  19. Issue 4 is the most pernicious. They don?t want anybody to speak to them directly, the only communication filtered, prioritised (including ignored) & allocated as they see fit. Plus ?they? will be some crude computer algorithm. Very worrying development. TfL went the same way you are not allowed to ring any of them up, or even who does what, or who is responsible for what. Someone even tried to get freedom of info request about who to contact about parking matter. It got back after 3 months ?request denied? to ?protect staff from any abusive calls?, ?equality & inclusion?, ?safe work environment? etc etc etc some nonsense Look at the absolute state of that (TfL) Most unreliable poor quality overcrowded dysfunctional bankrupt & expensive on the planet
  20. ed_pete on yesterday?s copy of the Daily Mail on said on Pressreader e-edition there is a huge blank white space on one page. It is captioned ?Content has been surpressed for editorial &/or legal reasons? Are we all getting it now? Such a simple task to stick the print editions, the most bought item in the most common type of shop, etc etc etc Not to go into it all over again. Going to attach screenshot but think it?s OTT. Not everyone will be that interested. Anyway not to take away e-edition a great if imperfect solution ed_pete that will have to do!
  21. ed_pete given this try & it?s pretty good. bit of a strain on the eyes etc but compared to nothing it?s a 1,000% improvement. young with good eyesight, so for me at any rate, it will work great actually working solution, exactly what I was after from the forum.
  22. Actually, councils are not obliged to provide library services whatsoever. But if they chose to, why not keep them as good as possible with minimal/ near zero cost or effort?
  23. Siduhe Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Brideshead, is there a reason you can't or don't > want to use the e-newspapers service that > Southwark Libraries provide? > > I hadn't appreciated that Southwark Libraries were > obliged to provide free daily newspapers - rather > I thought it was at the discretion of each > individual library - but the free enewspaper > service looks like it could be helpful for you > while you are waiting for this to get sorted out. The library electronic version sadly is often widely different than the library searchable electronic version, even the staff agreed that this is the case. In fact even the online website version some newspapers provide (without paywall) differs quite surprisingly. Other things are missing like sports & feature articles, extracts. This was a surprise to me to discover this. The library don?t have a true ?e-edition? which is exact copy of what is printed, hence the reason why you pay at least as much for this type of version online. Granted it?s not a life & death issue? but the above is still nevertheless true 😊
  24. Yeah, I know I wrote that article 😌 Funny trolling keep em coming peeps!!! On a serious note as a breaking update the situation might be getting resolved? so watch this space!
