  1. might sound daft but i think it's reasonable for parents not to want this chap doing this, and i think it's reasonable to say something. I think it's reasonable to use a local bobby to help mediate (no one is advocating calling 999 and demanding a meatwagon full of angry boys in riot gear, but it's a potentially conficting situation - as this thread proves - and to involve an authoritative but neutral 3rd party seems... reasonable). Finally, and this is the backbone of the business, if the photographer is a reasonable person then they would probably understand, even if their actions and intentions are entirely benign. Understanding the other persons point of view, maybe even comprimising what you are doing out of consideration for someone else and putting all that "it's my right" bollocks to one side, and just being a considerate human being. To those banging on about rights, be they those of the parent or those of the photographer, stop being so sodding American about this. It's not as simple as right/wrong, photographer/paedo, concerned parent/overprotective crazy, rights of child/parent/amateur photographer. Being willing to comprimise out of consideration for others, not being forced to by legislation or mass panic, is how we live together without having lawyers on standby 24/7: By being reasonable.
  2. Magic pants, or just very-useful-as-we-get-older pants?
  3. Much better to avoid all this by exploring scenic Kent: historic town centre = well preserved building fronts on a single street now home to thomas cook, superdrug and millets, all inside a ring-road being furiously lapped by 17 year old chavs in tarted up xr2's... Actually, "East Dulwich = South Peckham" might not be so bad...
  4. I splashed ?50 on an external hard-drive, everything now backed up, then all CD's in storage somewhere, including all decent digital photos. Debating a massive amazon ?3-a-disc clearout, which would yield approx ?900. deduct the cost of the hard-drive and it's still a nice little stash, but I haven't got the bottle or the time: I prefer the security of having the originals somewhere, and it'd take about a week, 8 hrs a day, just to list all the cd's for sale on amazon! Brother in law has done this/is in the process/just thought about it (can't quite remember, we're both usually rather pissed at extended in-law events) and used/is using/would use the cash to get himself a decent turntable and a small but perfectly formed collection of his favourites and classics on vinyl with the proceeds.
  5. thet're doing it a region at a time to try and keep some services up and running - at the moment the pool is closed but the gym is open and the classes are running. then the studios get done, gym last. I find the range of kit at ED gym to be pretty mediocre, and only go there once in a blue moon, when other exercise options are unavailable. I've never used the gym at PP, only the pool. More of a point for me about EDfusion is the gym attendants (I find that a more apt professional title than "instructor"). I have occasionally asked them for advice and, generally, they are bullshitting. Often they are really winging it, saying something that sounds good on the surface and points people towards what they have available, and as often as not they information is just plain wrong in terms of understanding how the human body works. This I find concerning.
  6. Indeed - sort of like having an automated headline writing machine for the express stuck on "shop demonstration" mode
  7. and first ashes test won at lords for 75 years!
  8. never rains but it poors...
  9. perhaps i've missed the sign telling me which end-of-spectrum view point I should be adhering to, and naturally not having sprogs of my own makes my opinion null and void on this one before I've even started, but I think there may be some middle ground. If I've understood events correctly, a parent felt uncomfortable with the way someone was acting around her child and informed the nearby police. They, in turn, did not resort to penning all childless people or a tear-gas 'n' truncheons combo, they discretely approached the individual, had a chat, individual left the area and they then reassured worried party. I think that all sounds extremely reasonable all round. "You, madam, had every right to be concerned but there was nothing to worry about. Everything's fine" "You, sir, had every right to pursue your quest for artistic atmosphere shots but it's making someone quite uncomfortable, perhaps you'd not do it just now or move on to a different area. Everthing's fine" "Thank you officer, sorry to trouble you" x2 "Quite alright sir/madam, this is actually what we always hoped community policing would be when we joined the force - it's not all about stop&search and dubious mass action" What I don't think I entirely understand is what Becky123 has in mind when starting the thread. The title of MamoraMan's response seems to imply that the original title of the thread was "Parents watch out". Sorry, Becky123, but that is generating hysteria; unnecessary after what seems to have been a well managed and apparently benign incident. If the original post had been more "This happened today, has it happened to anyone else?" or "This happened today, was I being paranoid?" then I suspect that you would be getting a more understanding response. As it is, you do seem to be a bit, well... http://media.pegasusnews.com/img/categories/HelenLovejoy_t630.jpg
  10. a new experience for me - not listening to tms, checked the scorecard on the bbc site then, on a seemingly pointless whim of timewasting, hit refresh... is jimmy anderson taking these wickets with precision bowling, or am I with my magic refresh button...?
  11. ciabatta, coffee, canolli. All top notch. Feeling remarkably like I should now be off to see tony-the-blade (marco's boy, works with paulie) or similar (although the yummy having a soy latte and 3 kids eating pom-bears didn't feature quite as prominently in Goodfellas)
  12. Brendan Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Shit! Look what I've started. notice that birkinhead versus jo'burg isn't being offered out - it must be like ants fighting for your leftovers ;-)
  13. 'Ackney versus Birken'ead, aaaaaaatside, now!
  14. Must be a killer to have someone else do your shopping for you in a manner that leaves you so disgusted. Well done on the nobility to put it away all on your lonesome and with that no-probs approach; I'd be flogging the wench through the town.
  15. Personally, when in the middle of a tense-ish debate/barney, sometimes it feels important to be clear that it's typos etc, not a sudden change of heart or loss of bottle. maybe that's just me. sorry for the offensive unnecessary explanations of the past. (not edited, looks about right. it is late, though)
  16. until a hangover and a trip past iceland result in man and fork vs. an entire sarah lee chocolate gateux, you're not in real trouble...
  17. Fantastic stuff BBW, and you'd be surprised how striking the resemblance is... (edit for spelling issues)
  18. This is getting a bit like the ipod aps advert: if you tend to post under the influence, there's a clique for that if you're obsessed with race issues, there's a clique for that if you agree with people occasionally in a way that means you must be friends sticking together, there's a clique for that and if you bring up cliques as a way to finish arguements that's like a 21st century version of "your mum", there's even a clique for that...
  19. Twas sodding tense, but a defensive rearguard and some slow glove changes saved the day. Ricky Ponting may have mentioned those particular components with a different degree of emphasis... Echos keef on the Freddy career summary, there's a touch of the Jonny Wilkinson's about it: golden boy leading up to and including a great competitive series, but past glories (once a long way past) can't block a slot forever.
  20. :)-D
  21. ooo, that's told me...
  22. I find myself hoping that Huguenot + Godwin = this thread finally dying out...
  23. Agreed, but the cycle of he starts a thread about something controversial, we argue, he argues back, we shout racist, he shouts realist, you shout clique... well, it's certainly getting repetitive. They're all knee jerk reactions after a point, but the last one is no better and no less irritating than the others.
  24. But what to make the big 10,000th post? I think simply "what keef said" would be fitting ;-)
  25. Whilst the principle sounds good, ????, do you think it's possible for more than 3 people to publically agree on something liberal or lefty on this forum without a knee jerk clique-card being played? It's almost as tiring as the tripe that has started this call to censorship...
