  1. They've had some great actors throughout IMO, the last 2 killers have both been pretty good in different ways.

Shame about the scripts though, but it's still fun enough viewing for a sober Tuesday night.

  2. Karrie, that is a fair point (about how people respond to people refusing help). I work with blind people, and have been told by several that they sometimes accept help they don't really want, because if they don't, they get tutted at, like they are being rude for wanting to be independent.
  3. I never realised they made an American version of Life on Mars. If you thought the UK endings were less than convincing, check this out.

At the end of the series, in what appears to be a deus ex machina, it is revealed that Tyler's 2008 and 1973 realities were both fictitious, created by the onboard computer of a spacecraft that is carrying Tyler, Hunt, Norris, Carling, and Skelton on the first ever manned mission to the planet Mars, in 2035. The crew he worked with in 1973 were just virtual reality versions of his fellow spaceship crewmembers. His room number, "2B", is his sleeping unit; his old precinct, "Hyde", and his new precinct, the "125", are based on the name of the spacecraft - "Hyde 125"; his neighbor, Windy, is the name of the computer A.I.; Frank Morgan, an FBI agent in the series, is the Mission Control flight director. To sustain the crew, their minds were routinely kept active while asleep using virtual reality "neural stimulation" programs of their own choosing, but Sam's choice of a scenario where he was a police officer circa 2008 was abruptly changed to a 1973 setting by a meteor-storm induced glitch in the computer. This conclusion is markedly different from the conclusion of the original UK series, but is still left ambiguous as the first step on Mars depicts Gene Hunt's signature shoe stepping into the sand.

In a twist, Gene Hunt in 1973 turns out to be Astronaut 'Major Tom' Tyler - Sam's father - in the conclusion. Just as Maria was estranged to Gene in 1973, Sam was estranged to his father until the very end of the series, when he reconciles with his dad before they step out onto the bare ground of the Red Planet.

  4. Don't think Walcott is up to it. Maybe he will be in future, Joe Cole used to just run and run until he got tackled, but eventually matured in to a great player. I think Theo could be the same, but at the moment, his great pace just isn't enough IMO.

Shame for King last night, didn't look anywhere near his best, and Terry will be confident of keeping his place.

I still think Heskey & Rooney up front if it's 4-4-2.

As with Liverpool this season, Gerrard just not his old self. Don't know if he's just lost it a bit, or what, but he doesn't look the player he was a season ago. That said, maybe the WC will gee him back in to action...

  5. You people. FFS.

There are blind people in Dulwich too, lets start threads about them, as they won't be able to read them*, so we can say whatever we like.

We know nothing about this chap, and yet there are assumptions galore on here! I saw him waiting to get in to HSBC last Friday (true), he didn't want help getting in, which could be for several reasons. I have no idea why he wanted to get in to the bank, but it could be because he had a bank account with his own money in it, and he doesn't need to be discussed on here like some sort of freak case study!

    * Unless they have JAWS or similar on their computer

  6. Cool, sounds like it's worth a try then. The last couple of festivals I've been to, I've hardly bothered watching any bands, so it's not as if I'm missing out on seeing some big named act (I can never understand these people that will go to Reading / Glasto, and spend THE WHOLE DAY stood down the front watching the main stage!

This does sound like it would be fun, and right up Mrs Keef's street.

Assuming it hasn't sold out by pay day, I think I'll get tickets.

  7. Only got round to watching last night.

Thought it was very good, but wasn't sure they should have done the whole heaven and hell thing. It seemed to suggest the old Easy path leads to hell, and hard path leads to Heaven.

In some ways I thought it was great, and well done, and yes, very sad (Ray hanging himself). But, I did think of sixth sense, and it was rather religious.

Then again, there's no real harm in that.

Was hoping for a cameo appearance of Sam & Annie in the pub at the end though.

  8. Anyone been or got any opinions.

Mrs Keef really fancies it, and has been mentioning it for a few years. Now we have the little one, I am more inclined to give it a try. I do love African music, so that would be a good bit.

  9. Apparently Pac-Man has agreed to compromise on the blood testing issue (agreeing to let them take blood up to 14 days before the fight, which Mayweather had previously offered as a compromise).

Fingers crossed this means they'll get it on in November. Manny says he'll have one more fight, and frankly, if that is against anyone other than Mayweather, it will be a horrible "what if" for a long time to come.

  10. I never said I didn't question it, just that there was probably nout to be done about it. At the end of the day though, it's not really that important in the greater scheme of things, and I won't be losing sleep over it.
  11. I just got round to reading the nunhead forum thread. Was pleased to see Atila is well. And I think Mikecg is being quite open and honest about what annoyed him, and is just trying to forget about it now, which is fair enough.

Must say, I don' know who the moderator is, but s/he seems to have had a bit of a humour bypass. They also seem to have used the excuse that BBW doesn't live in Nunhead, to ban him, which is a petty flimsy case, but I guess he has no right of appeal, so that is that.

  12. I think you're quite right, but to be fair, I think there has been some misunderstanding on this thread, as I don't think anyone implied that you're "mad" if you don't have an epidural.

Friend of mine has one answer to the mere concept of "guilt" re epidurals.

"show me a footballer who gets his broken leg reset without state of the art anaesthetic"

I just read that as saying there are no other instances in western medicine where a person would be in great pain, but there is some question as to whether they should have pain relief they want, should they ask for it.

If they don't want it, then good for them.

I do like a thread that gets a good debate going, but sorry to the OP, if I'm responsible for completely taking your thread off topic. :-$
