Yep, The Cherry Tree. I couldn't tell how old the listing is I'm afraid. It was on Yelp, so that may date it. Very roughly, I'd say it was about twenty something years ago. Just before it became The Vale.

I've just found an old listing for it. It was actually 'The New Hamlet Inn'.

I've got a very vague recollection of it being called 'The Hamlet' for a short time.

That simply isn't true. 7000 officers were on duty on Monday, 14,000 officer shifts were logged over the weekend. There's the overtime. The Met's total officer headcount is just under 34,000. There are 32 boroughs in Greater London. Are you honestly trying to suggest that The Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea has 20% of all Met officers? 6 or 7 times the borough average?

Firstly, it looks like you're comparing arrest figures in Notting Hill with reported crimes in SE22. The Met would love a clean up rate like that. Secondly, you seem to have multiplied East Dulwich's population by a factor of 1000 to get your 20,000 violent crimes in a month. Were there really 12 million people in Notting Hill this weekend? The whole of Greater London and a decent chunk of the Home Counties? On any one day? Thirdly, your final number of 20,000 (!) per month. You've taken 33 per cent of that. Why? Three days of August is around 10%.

A very rough, back of a fag packet estimate based on the 2021 census data is around £12m pa from the permits. Obviously, inter- CPZ parking charges and fines are on top of that.

Is it a single, Southwark-wide CPZ, or a mosaic of discrete CPZs? If it's the latter, does that mean Southwark residents cannot make certain journeys within the borough without incurring a charge at their destination, despite having paid for a permit in their own area?

It's pretty hairy on East Dulwich Road just now as well. School-aged teenagers. I wonder if it's something James Ashworth - McLintock could get involved in, either in his role as a local councillor or as the cabinet member for 'Sustainable Streets'?

Exdulwicher, if I may ask you a question, do you use the Lime bikes around here? I've seen them used in the north of the borough, particularly in the area south of the South Bank and they appear to work really well there. It seems to be commuters using them to and from the mainline stations during the week and tourists at the weekend. I just struggle to see how relevant they are here. Most people live within a five or ten minute walk of somewhere to pick up a newspaper or a pint of milk. If people have made the decision to cycle locally, surely they'd have invested in a bike already. Lime bikes aren't particularly cheap to use long term. An hour's bus ticket is cheaper than a 60 minute Lime pass and more practical if you're picking up shopping or heading into town. For moving anything bulky or taking the family out, they're not going to replace car journeys. I genuinely can't see the point of them, in these numbers, around here. They just seem to be the answer to a question nobody's actually asked.

My take on it is that the decision made on the 31/10 allowed them to start talking to potential suppliers from 8/11. At that time there were no agreements in place. They've clearly made arrangements with Lime, and Human Forest, since then. I haven't read the PDF, so there may be more detail in there. They've been a bit of a nuisance around SE15 for a month or so, as have Human Forest. I suspect Lime are rolling them out on a postcode or inner/outer Southwark basis. It seems reasonable target the younger, more densely populated areas first. It does feel like a bit of a land grab on Lime's part, but they're a tech company based in San Francisco. As a strategy, it's pretty much par for the course for them.

A few weeks ago they were targeting East Dulwich Road and the roads off it, always with one just on the corner where you couldn't miss it. Unless it was dark and you'd had a couple of pints. They're quite 'pointy'. And painful. A week ago, a school kid ran directly at me, with his head down, pushing one to break the lock on the rear wheel before riding off on it. Last night I got buzzed by another school-aged kid on the pavement outside Papa John's. That bike was making a very strange clacking noise from its back wheel as well. It does seem like a deliberate field marketing campaign, but my 'Brand Experience' has been shite. I'm not advocating it, but a few years ago a Chinese firm tried to implement a similar scheme in Manchester but pulled out because so many ended up getting thrown into the Irwell.

If nobody comes forward, you could try asking to use the decks at The Gowlett, Peckham Soul or one of the other vinyl shops in Peckham at a quiet time. Not ideal, but maybe worth a go.

Moovart, I did mention banks. Rightly or wrongly they're seen as anachronistic now. My point was that, other than a bank, what would Ken (and Wordsworth) like to see instead of another food outlet? Here's a piece of research, ironically commissioned by NatWest to encourage the use of local businesses, on what 'Brits' want on the High Street. It is a bit dubious that banks aren't mentioned. Just out of interest, what would you rather see there? Banks are closing across the country. As other people have said, I'd rather have the property being used and providing jobs than lying empty. In a half-mile stretch you can get fish, meat, veg, bread, shoes, emergency pants, have a pint, buy a newspaper, inoculate your dog, get your teeth done, get your hair and nails done, drop off your dry cleaning, get a key cut, buy a book, pick up a prescription and book your funeral. I can't really think of anything Lordship Lane is lacking.

Given that the restrictions are on vehicles, it seems reasonable to focus on their effects on car journeys. What would you expect? Their impact on pork pies?

Froglamder, from what I can glean from the Southwark website it tends to be an hour-ish each morning and afternoon anytime between 8-9.30 and 2.30-4.30. It also says that it's expected to be implemented in autumn 2023, but that doesn't seem to chime with the signs being in place already. I'd agree with Soylent & Alec. You can't argue with the safety aspect of it, but it's going to make getting from East Dulwich Road to Bellenden Road pretty convoluted and chaotic.

It's a funny one with Queen. I don't think you'd get many people citing Queen as their favourite band but Bohemian Rhapsody is the country's best selling non-charity single and their first Greatest Hits album is the UK's best selling album. I suppose their output was so varied - all four members wrote - that there's kind of something for everyone in there. Even in Bohemian Rhapsody you get three songs for the price of one. I'm not sure I agree with DF about the pretension thing. I see his point but they, and that song in particular, were so ridiculous and over the top that it always felt it was done with a bit of a wink and tongues firmly in cheeks. There's a quote where, when compared to Led Zeppelin, Freddie Mercury says that they're more like Liza Minelli. I suppose it's a bit like The Bee Gees and ABBA - forty-odd years after the spangles and Spandex, you do realise that there was very solid song writing behind it.
