Do you think it's right that children (mostly under fives) have their own seat on the bus? Whatever happened to children sitting on their parents lap? ....Especially when elderly and those less able get on the bus.

Yes it sounds like one-off bad luck

Hi Tarot, Here is the news report from the 28th August 2010: "The NHS Direct helpline, used by millions for instant medical advice, is to be scrapped in England and replaced with a cheaper option. The move comes despite the government promising to protect frontline services in the NHS, during the public spending cutbacks. The decision to replace the service with a new 1-1-1 helpline has provoked an angry reaction from the Labour Party. Shadow Health Secretary Andy Burnham claims it is part of a "vindictive mission to break up the NHS". However the latest news report on the 9th September 2010 is as follows: "There were never plans to scrap NHS Direct, according to Health Secretary Andrew Lansley, after he was accused of a climbdown on plans to get rid of the out-of-hours advice service. Twenty-seven thousand people contact NHS Direct every day, and campaigners had gathered tens of thousands of signatures on a petition calling for a rethink after the Health Secretary had appeared to announce the end of the service". So it looks like it's here to stay ....

Hello, Where abouts is Consort Estate ? Is it on Consort Road?
-
I like this line; Kings Collage Hospital ?were here luv?, the Conductor gets the pushchair and unfolds it in on the path, It reminds me of being on the Routemaster buses when conductors used to take pushchairs out of the compartment by the exit(behind where they stood) and unfold it on the pavement for mothers......it's not as long ago as the trams but a nice memory.

Dulwich Leisure Centre - Memories campaign
MsDulwich replied to Julie Vindis's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Also...my mum said that if you were a user of the public baths during the war and wanted more hot water in your bath...you would have to shout out "more hot water please". The assistant sitting outside the bathroom would then be heard saying "ok more hot water in number 11" and so on.... -
Dulwich Leisure Centre - Memories campaign
MsDulwich replied to Julie Vindis's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi Julie I'm not sure if you've already completed your memories campaign...... but my Nan used to use the public baths during the War. She featured on television in 1998 when there was a report on Dulwich Baths (London's oldest swimming pool, Dulwich Public Baths). She also featured in a two page pullout in a newspaper as she was one of the last remaining users of the baths. PM me if you you're interested. -

MsDulwich replied to Jayne B's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi Jayne Have a look at this thread, it looks like it's an ongoing problem which certainly needs investigating: http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,358829,page=1 -
I went to Nigeria about 20 years ago. I loved the fact that it was so different from anywhere I had travelled to previously. I was VERY fortunate enough in that I stayed in a 5 star hotel (thanks to a generous friend of mine), but also visited the downtown areas too, I saw the markets and witnessed the odd person begging too, but I also visited upmarket Victoria Island. I found the people friendly and all in all a wonderful experience. In my experience travelling opens your eyes to some wonderful people and cultures....P.S its always useful if you know someone in the country to show you around etc.

Hi d0m1n1ka Did you ever go to Nigeria? What did you think of it?

yes I agree with Mr Ben - the best way is to walk fast in and out of the office, almost running, then sit at your desk and randomly type loudly at your keyboard. You can also hide holiday papers and articles under your keyboard and slip them out for some leisurely reading (I have learn't these skills from my colleague sitting opposite me).

Brilliant Casper! I hope to follow suit soon and maybe mentor or offer my help to them in some way.

I too was going to suggest Kids Company. Camila Batmanghelidjh (Founder of Kids Company)and the team behind her do some really inspiring work in the borough (mainly Camberwell and the surrounding areas). 'Kids Company' turns around the lives of troubled inner-city children to help change their lives. Their work is truly inspiring.

Has anyone been to Ibiza during the winter/off-season months? What is the weather like and are any clubs, bars, restaurants or shops open ? Which part of the island would you recommend staying?
-
I kind of agree with tiger ranks on this one. The owner of the shop has owned the business & sold cars on that plot for many years, probably long before some of you moved to Dulwich. Dulwich residents should welcome the new look Lordship Lane but also appreciate elements of the old. He is probably struggling to make ends meet & doing what he can to survive. I too was born and have lived in Dulwich all my life and don't see that it's really that big a problem?

What jobs do people in Dulwich do? Are the people in Dulwich mainly in the creative field? Does anyone ever fancy a change of career, if so what would you do, or would you be more fulfilled by doing Volunteer work abroad?...Curious
