Perhaps the Police Station in Lordship Lane could be used as the East Dulwich Town Hall, I think all the horses have now been rehoused elsewhere. It would be very nice to have a Mayor to relpace the former Mares. Not realy a need to apply to Planning for change of use.

?Computed shorty as Youth development Minister.? It has been suggested that I become the ?Youth development Minister? for the East Dulwich Town Council , it is some sixty five years ago that I had my youth years, so I might be a little out of touch with present day standard that a youth is expected to be offered. There are observations that are very prominent in every day life seeing things that are done by youths. The graffiti does make the area look unsightly. My recommendation is that invisible ink is used by the manufacturer to be added to the paint, to make the Graffiti vanish over night, thus saving on the manpower and equipment to remove it saving untold sums of rate payers money. Speed calming Humps. These be removed intact and stacked on Goose Green to form a high Skateboard ramp and jump for the youths to practice. In the place of the Calming Humps a traffic speed restriction sign connected with a Stinger strip of spikes, if the driver still exceeded the limit the Stinger would automatically be deployed causing the tyres to be punctured, the cost of replacing the four tyres would deter the driver having to replace them. This would save the Police time costs and Court ruling and Fine. Zebra Crossings. A Railway style crossing gates fitted to be closed to drivers, then alternate that the Pedestrians are held in safety by gates on the pavement. Street furniture. There are thousands of poles, posts, bins , Telephone boxes, advertisement hoardings these are spread all over the pavement causing obstruction to the free passage of those using the pavement, surely it would be more fitting that these were moved in line to the edge of the pavement near to the curb. This would serve two purposes one to stop vehicles mounting the pavement , the other would protect the pedestrians from those vehicles and prevent damage to the surface of the footway. Street Name Signs. Remove all metal Name signs, in their place repaint in aluminous paint ( for night travellers ) the name. The removed Name boards and the unused poles be taken to Goose Green and a Bungee Jump Tower and platform be built. Curfew and Street lights. Street lights be turned off at 1 o/clock until 5 o/clock, to save the cost of electricity used, this will allow privacy to the Taxi Driver to place bottles on the wall. Curfew, Any Tagged person out after their time will not attend Court , each breach of conditions will attract a I Kilo weight to be fitted to the Tag. This added weight might deter any further breaches. I will present my C.V. That does have a Proviso that I am issued with a Motorised Zimmer.

It's the same tree! I was always terrified of climbing up that outside staircase perched on very small piers of bricks to the top floor, where my mate lived. Next door 311 another mate lived, in the war he was seventeen and joined the ARP Wardens, he was in bed one night when an aeroplane exploded overhead and a large part came through the roof, he was killed in the small front bedroom on the top floor.

footpaths? (around Overhill Road)
computedshorty replied to HelBel65's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Time passes so quickly. Both stations closed 1954 Honor Oak Station. Date opened: 1.12.1865 Location: South side of Forest Hill Road Company on opening: Crystal Palace and South London Junction Railway Date closed to passengers: 20.9.1954 Date closed completely: 20.9.1954 Company on closing: British Railways (Southern Region) Present state: Demolished - the site is lost under the Wood Vale Estate -
The trees that were sited on the pavement near the curb along many roads are getting far fewer. How many of you can claim an original tree of many years growth outside or near to your home? Any idea what Road / Street / Lane / or Avenue (That is named for trees in it ) still has any? The one outside next door remains today although others I remember have gone.

It is a shame you did not decide to move to Overhill Road years ago. There used to be a railway station in Wood Vale called Honour Oak facing the Cemetery. -

The V1 struck between Therapia and Mundania Road towards the SW end. 8 houses were demolished and a block of flats damaged and 20 houses damaged in Mundania Road. 50 houses were damaged in Therapia Road. In the Forest Hill Road 14 shops/houses were damaged. The gap in the line of Victorian housing in both Therapia and Mundania road is clearly seen today which has been filled with post war flats. -

East Dulwich Community Centre, Darrell Road. SE 22 8N. It might be of interest of the existing area prior to the Blitz in the second world war. Darrell Road backing onto Crystal Palace Road starting with the shop on the corner of Whatley Road, then a Warehouse with an upper story where a doorway opened to the street a pole protruded above it a GInny Wheel ( Steel Circular Wheel that a rope was used to pull or lower the sacks or boxes ). The houses were continuous terraces on both sides of the road built to two stories with bay windows these were built in pairs ( Front Doors close together ) The first house No 88 was left handed entrance, The Snashfold Family lived here. The Crystal Palace Public House, on the corner of Whatley Road, next to the pub going towards Uplands Road were three storied with shops below an entrance between the shops just along led to a Corn Chandlers Warehouse where horse drawing laden loads of straw and bags of wheat, there was always a lot of straw blowing about here, across the road facing this entrance was the last of the shops it was a Pet Shop. I can remember the baby chicks in the window under a dust bin lid hanging down with a light bulb underneath to keep the chicks warm. We bought a tabby kitten there. Hindman?s Road was much the same two storied houses, but a more varied style some Terraces some semi detached, toward Upland Road on the right the houses were far older, and a row or shops facing. There was backing onto Darrel Road, Hills Dairy depot and yard where the green milk carts loaded to deliver to the streets. There was a Yard used by the Singer Sewing Machine Company, early morning a fleet of little vans would drive away. To return in the evening to park. This whole area was very badly damaged in the bombing during the war, it is totally rebuilt now and very few things give a clue to how it was then. Many of the families who had lost their home had to move elsewhere, taking any item of furniture or clothing that could be saved, it was possible to hire fruiterers wheel barrows at local shops, these were often seen loaded with the few belonging of those people and being pushed by the mum and kids very few men were still living there as they had been called into the Services, and eventually the father got a letter saying their house had gone, and the remaining family were living in a Church Hall or School that was not being used because the children had been evacuated from London. I knew many families who lost a member killed, or taken to hospital never returning back to the area. It is distressing to recall those, and to remember hearing the teacher when the school Register was called, a child did not reply to his name, the teacher called out again the name, a child might raise a hand and say they got bombed last night Sir! Needless to say the classroom gradually had less pupils, who would be encouraged to move to the forward desks. We had very few Male teaches those we did have were very old or those who had been injured returned from the war, there were women one was very young . Miss Childs she said she was the sister of one of the Crew who bombed the Mohne Dam in Germany. I seem to recall over fify of in those crews got killed. -

Hi. Fell like doing a test? So many people with such a problem. -When playing games, your computer cpu is used much more.. -Graphics cards are used much more.. -They create more heat.. -Some laptops and indeed computers can overheat.. -There is a failsafe. -If a computer getsd over the pre-configured temperature, the computer restarts or shuts down. -This is to avoid your cpu being damaged. You can check if this is happening to you by downloading "coreTemp": 32Bit Windows http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/CoreTemp32.zip

There was an act of respect when a resident had died the curtains in the house would be drawn for a week, or after the deceased had been removed from the home as it was normal to have the coffin in the front room with the door open for neihghbours to come in and see that person layed out in the coffin. I have not seen this for years now. Personally I draw the curtains nearly closed as there is a street light outside that shines onto my face in bed. I would not like to be in the habit of drawing curtains fully at night, unless I over slept to midday, and neighbours started to call to see me in my box.

My wife who is eighty one insists that she is capable of clearing the snow enough to find my buried Zimmer Frame, only problem is the shovel is in the garden shed at the bottom of the garden, she is trying to use the spatula that she used in the frying pan with the reaching grip tied to extend it, but that is very small for such a big job. If she falls on the snow she wont be able to get herself up and I cant lift her. I was wondering if putting a big card in the front window with our phone number someone might phone to see that we are O.K. Thank you. Zimmerlessman.
