  1. Also interested to revive this thread - anyone gone with this and have any feedback? Thanks
  2. A total long shot, but if anyone spots or sees for sale, an Orange Brompton with leather Brooks saddle poss with a kiddie seat attached, please contact me. It went missing from Nutbrook Street yesterday. Thanks
  3. Great - thanks for thinking of us. There's not usually anyone around at the weekend. Usually there's someone there between 10-4 weekdays, or until 8pm Thursdays. But we are a small team, so we really recommend calling us just before you come to check (020 7733 8098) Thanks again in advance.
  4. Ah sorry to hear that Sue, but thanks for thinking of us. We had a very busy May, and so the stock on the site can vary. We've got about 10 more bikes being added early next week, and we are working hard to ensure that we have a good range of bikes in the shop all the time. I know it's too late for you, but just to let anyone else know that might be reading!
  5. Just a reminder that old bikes are very welcome at The Bike Project (particularly adult bikes, but also kids' bikes) If you've got one lying around that is no longer being used, we can refurbish it and give it to a refugee or asylum seeker. Some of the best quality bikes we sell at our online shop to help fund the project - one good bike sold, can help us give bikes to 3 refugees. Our workshop and drop off point is on Crossthwaite Avenue SE5, just off Red Post Hill. http://thebikeproject.co.uk/ If you have any questions let me know, otherwise please follow us on https://www.facebook.com/The-Bike-Project-114604822035810/, or sign up to our emails on the website...We'll send you a quote for 10% off your first bike and we won't bombard you with emails!
  6. I want to recommend Lou and his brilliant parties at Captured on the Rye. My 6-yr old had a party there for 12, and they all really enjoyed it. It was nice to do something creative, without lots of competitive games (which can stress out my son!) and everyone got something really nice to take away at the end - a party bag with a difference! They basically designed their own T-shirts (with some cool templates for those that wanted them) and then Lou and Lola helped them screen print them - they all came out looking great, something tasteful that the kids will wear and enjoy. They also did some fab little spin paintings and at the end Lou fired up his candy floss machine. Find out more here: https://capturedontherye.com/ Feel free to PM me if you want to ask me anything about it.
  7. I sent an email expressing an interest but not heard back. Can anyone help? Thanks
  8. We are looking for a temporary, part-time administrator to start ASAP at http://thebikeproject.co.uk/. We need someone for 20-25 hours per week at our office in Denmark Hill. We offer flexible working hours and pay is ?10 per hour. Please send cover letter and CV to [email protected].
  9. I am doing some work with a local charity called The Bike Project, that donates refurbished bikes to refugees and asylum seekers. We also sell refurbished bikes to help fund the project through our online shop. We are looking to find a freelance/part-time Social Media person to oversee our Twitter and Facebook accounts (and possibly Instagram, and LinkedIn) for a few hours per week. We are open to discussion as to how much time per week it will require. We have a small office in SE5, but we would expect most of this work to be home-based. We are looking for someone with: - social media experience - an understanding of the differences between the main social media platforms - a creative approach and an understanding of what makes engaging content - impeccable written English - a desire to work in a charity, and an empathy for the plight of refugees An interest in bikes would be a distinct advantage. You can find out more about the charity here: http://thebikeproject.co.uk/ Please PM me if you'd like to discuss further.
  10. Thanks so much for the recommendation, Fiona - we really appreciate it! We will also be at the Dulwich Festival Fair on Goose Green on 8th May, with some kids bikes for sale...and a Dr Bike session if you've got a problem with your bike and want to ask one of our professional mechanics.
  11. The Bike Project is a local charity with a workshop on Crossthwaite Avenue, off Red Post Hill. They refurbish donated bikes to give to refugees in London. They also teach refugee women how to cycle. Read more here: http://thebikeproject.co.uk/ The very best bikes are refurbished by the best mechanics in the business, usually with plenty of new parts added, and are sold online at their Bike Shop, with all proceeds helping to fund the project. They are also always looking for old bikes so please bear them in mind - it doesn't matter what condition the bike is in. Their shop is here: http://shop.thebikeproject.co.uk/ Delivery is free nationwide, but if you wanted to try a bike out first, you could pop into the workshop and take a look. Donated bikes can also be dropped off there. Any questions PM me - I have been doing some work for them so just declaring my interest!
  12. I've just started doing some work with a local charity and social enterprise called the Bike Project, and I thought it might be of genuine interest to fellow forumites. They take donations of old bikes (for kids and adults) and then qualified mechanics make them good as new (or nearly!) and they sell them to fund the charity - which donates bikes to refugees, to help them get around London, where as we all know transport can be prohibitively expensive. I thought some of you would be interested in this, if you are thinking of selling on an old bike but could justify giving up the cash. It's also a good place to buy a new bike given how quickly the kids grow out of them! There was an article about it in the Standard the other day and you can read more about it here: http://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/denmark-hill-charity-appeals-for-bikes-to-donate-to-londons-refugees-a3178816.html Their workshop and drop off point is on Crossthwaite Ave, SE5, just off Red Post Hill, and near Bessemer, and the shop is here: http://shop.thebikeproject.co.uk/collections/bikes Please feel free to ask any questions. Thanks in advance for your support.
  13. I am finding this thread most helpful, and am about to look at the book recommendations in a sec. Much of what I am reading could have been written about our oldest son (5.5 yrs old). He is fine at school and eager to please there, and doing quite well, from what we can gather. But managing his emotions at home is another matter, he can suddenly get into the most enormous rage about a drawing not turning out how he wants or some lego falling apart. He often gets extremely angry with us directly, about something totally unrelated - and his moods can massively impact the kind of weekend we have. Thanks all for the tips.
  14. I would really recommend Catherine from Nimble Arts - she did a Star Wars party for us last summer - she came and did about an hour's entertainment (along the Jedi training lines) and then we did tea and a few games...
  15. I've just spent the last 9 months at Farmdrop helping them relaunch the business - and am now available again as per the post above. Do get in touch if you think I might be able to help.
  16. And just as an update...we've also now added Oddbins East Dulwich as a new pick up point.
  17. I work at Farmdrop and happy to answer any questions about it, but i know this is not the place for a big sales pitch! If you search for us you'll find an offer for forumites if you want to give it a try...there is a home delivery option OR you can pick up from the Actress or the Rye (and a few other places)
  18. Another option on the scene now is Farmdrop (let me be transparent immediately - I work there!) I used to work at A&C so am very familiar with both options. At Farmdrop, we do sell fruit and veg bundles from some of our suppliers, but you can also just choose the fruit and veg that you really want so there's no risk of unwanted things. Then we sell meat, fish, dairy and amazing bread also - and all chilled goods are put in special chill bags with ice packs (A&C use woolcool boxes which do the same job). We do free home delivery in 2-hr slots in the evenings (Wed-Fri, and Sunday). Most box schemes deliver at unspecific times and on set days of the week, so it's a little less flexible and you need to be happy having it left outside somewhere. At Farmdrop we also have a few pick up points so people can pick up on the way home from work (round here the Actress, the Rye....) We try and source as locally as possible - we have a good number of suppliers in London. As we grow, we plan to open new hubs each with their local suppliers so we'll always continue to support the smaller farmers. There's an offer for EDF users if you search in the trades section - I know this isn't really the place for it...!
  19. Before I call someone out, can anyone help?! I have been using my MacBook Pro all day without problem. Since I brought it home tonight and have tried to turn it on, it's playing up. It sounds like it's turning on OK - but after a slow start I am getting either no response (and it stays black) or a screen asking if I've forgotten my password and giving me the chance to reset it - and when I do, it will not restart. Each time I have tried to restart it, I get this password screen or it just stays black and doesn't appear to be turning on at all. Any tips welcome!
  20. I am now looking to build up a portfolio of freelance clients so if you are a local business in need of marketing help, but without the budget to employ anyone, perhaps I can help? My previous role was as Head of Marketing for Abel & Cole and I have over 15 years experience in multi-channel retail, with a focus on acquiring new customers, customer retention and loyalty, social media, and branding. Perhaps you are trying to start up your own business and need a sounding board/extra pair of hands/second opinion? (delete as appropriate). Please PM me if you'd like to discuss your business and how I might be able to help. Thanks, Anna http://linkd.in/1vrZ34h
  21. We usually go M4/M5 and are travelling to North Cornwall near Newquay (esp works if early as getting to M4 no probs early-ish) - this summer we left about 7.30am and had brekkie at Fleet as we were going to Hants en route this time. We have recently been given an NT membership and we've enjoyed stops at both Dyrham Park (on way back - 3hrs drive, nice big break then 2 more hours drive) very nr M4 around Bath, and also Tyntesfield beyond Bristol off the M5. Also hear Killerton House nr Exeter is a good one, but we always want to make a bigger start than that (on way back) or push on through if we're nearly there on the way down. I am not sure how expensive these places are to visit for non-members...!
  22. Also very interested in hearing of successful job share stories - and if anyone is looking for someone to do a jobshare with (particularly with a marketing focus) I would also be interested to hear about it! There seems to be so little interesting part-time work out there. Nearly everyone I know who works part-time had negotiated it with an existing employer. Good luck Sarah in making it work - great that your employer is open to it.
  23. Steve is an important contact in my phone - came round to fix my Hoover washing machine a few days ago - he's always quick to fit you in when he can sense it's a crisis and has always managed to fix whatever problem I've had....Wouldn't hesitate to recommend him.
  24. I was so disappointed to hear this news. I shared everyone's shock and concern when it was first made clear what had happened, and I am so glad that the little one in question was OK. But I hoped we could move forward and it would get sorted after all the necessary investigations. As some posters have said there are some GREAT staff there and I'm very upset for them and for my son, that this has happened so suddenly. I am not sure how I am going to explain this to my son who is nearly 4 - he is off to school in September so there was not long left but he has made some good friendships there, and I feel saddened that those friendships will be impacted by this. I am in the fortunate position that I'm not working currently but some fellow parents are going to have a real childcare crisis to deal with, which in this area is going to be really challenging. I an not sure if OFSTED would have shut them down regardless, or if the media attention was the final straw - if so, then it is a shame that the media became involved.
