  1. There is now two threads on this. I am really struggling to understand why people have such issues with booking their swim. Most things in life now require prebooking whether for leisure or not. Do the same people find booking a table at a resturant or a seat at the cinema just as annoying? We are very lucky to have 3 local swimming pools. Since the booking system was introduced I personally find the expeience so much better. If you book you are guaranteed a swim at the time you want in the length you want. Yes you have to be organised for Dulwich but some of the other pools are never full.
  2. "Only those obsessed with the idea of efficiency (at the expense of humanity) can applaud a 100% bookable system. It stinks of top-down bureaucracy and goes against how most people want to live their lives. (Specific needs (preferences, really) can still be accommodated with a booking/set aside system but a totalitarian approach just isn’t realistic or human)" WOW - this seems a bit extreme. Most things in life you need to book. Yes it can be a bit of a pain but thats the way it is. You could try the other pools in the area- we are very lucky to have 3 + pools in our area
  3. The idea is not to cheat the system otherwise you could end up having 30 people in the fast lane! They have a booking system by speed lanes for a reason - i.e so everyone can enjoy their swim with people roughly the same speed in lanes not overcrowded. 10 in a lane is bad enough. If there isn't a space in your lane then you'll need to book another session rather than spoling it for the people that are adhering to the right lanes.

  5. Hello, we live near Goose Green playground and park our car on Adys Road. Over the last few months we've woken up to find that thieves have gained access to the car without breaking any windows or doors. The car is 10 years old so is not true keyless entry. There is a lock button on the key fob and we are wondering if this could have been cloned somehow. We never leave valuables in the car but is it annoying to find people have rifled through the car contents - especially in these COVID times. This time they actually left one of their gloves behind! Has anyone else experienced these soft break-ins please? Also for others do be careful what you leave in your car.
  6. Have you asked the families annoying you to be quiet or is this a general rant at everyone with kids. The last few months have been hard on everyone especially kids. Give them a break. It's a nightmare trying to juggle work and kids specially today when it's hot and for most of East Dulwich also no internet. I would love to let mine run around the park all day but this isn't practical when you are on video calls. To keep the house cool they actually say keep doors and windows closed and draw the curtains so maybe you should do this to help with the heat and the noise
  7. BLUE STORY coming soon to cinemas features Peckham a lot - link to trailer below

  11. we went to Riverhill Gardens this weekend. Really lovely place and great Bluebells
  12. I know. I was chatting to a friend about the Adys Road 'parklets'. She put it very well - I don't want to eat Tacos in a parking bay I want to be able to park in it!. A nice idea in theory put community run and in busy areas? I can't see that being popular or practical
  13. Be interesting to hear others thoughts on the proposed community run 'Parklets'
  14. Dulwich lessons have got better. There is much more consistency in teaching now. Both my kids swim at the same time in different stages and it's so local. Yes they are never gonna to be as nice as some of the other places but it is a local authority centre.
  15. I emailed the council about it a few years ago when they first did it. I asked why it wasn't painted a different colour. I can't even remember their reason but I remember thinking it was a lame response. Let me try and dig it out

I normally switch to that in the darker months
  17. This makes me so sad to read. I cycle back through the canal path as well. So now I feel I need to take a new route. You think cycling is the best means to get from A to B to collect your kids in time. Seems I am stuck between crap Thameslink trains and now bike mugging threats!
  18. Hello, If you have any recommendations do let me know. Thanks Catherine
  19. It really depends on which schools are in your catchment. Most schools in the area are really good though. If you search on here you'll find lots of opinions on the various schools. Probably best to visit all the schools in your catchment and go from there
  20. That's crazy. Our nursery has brought extra free standing air con units and has fans. They get them outside in the shade as much as possible too (I know that's harder in the baby rooms). Plus lots of water play and trips to shaded parks.
  21. Hello We saw this event advertised but the ticket prices seemed very high. I was just wondering whether anyone went and whether it was any good / worth the money?
  22. The Isla of Wight is great. Getting the ferry over is fun too as it feel like you are going abroad but a really fun island with lots within very short driving distances.
  23. We had them visit Goose Green side too. They knock every 3 months or so and are usually decent guys just trying to get but the guy that came last week was really aggressive with me and very pushy and rude. I said I was putting my kids to bed and he just carried on ranting and arguing with me. It felt pretty threatening.
