  1. That's a pretty perfect description there DPF. Not that I don't have a bit of a soft spot for them on occasion, as long as they can muster a decent pint. As it goes this pub is pretty old school good points without all the bad bits; it can be done.
  2. After ny (only slightly tongue in cheek) cult post the other day, a bit of Unkle - burn my shadow
  3. On the results so far I notice that 60% say there should be no parking restrictions, yet 89% think there should be restrictions for estate agents' vehicles. How does that work? Clearly those Foxtons' minis have an effect that transcends normal rational thought.
  4. A small doffing of cap to Alicia who has managed to unite the forum like no other, perhaps in forum history.
  5. Not sure I can completely agree with you on that last point Dom. All soldiers accept the risk as of death or injury as part of the deal, but it's wrong for bureaucratic incompetence to mean we send our troops into a battle zone without enough or even the wrong equipment. It's even worse when it's being done wilfully in order to save money because of all the cash ploughed into pointless high profile military projects such as obsolete cold war warships we don't need (each hugely overdue and 3 times the 1 billion budget), F22s and Trident Submarines. I get absolutely incensed when someone rightly points out in parliament that we're betraying our soldiers, and the defence minister comes out with "the tories reduced spending" (yeah, it was called a peace dividend you tit) "and we've increased spending by x billion" (yes on a bunch of things we don't need, meanwhile our troops are having to buy boots online, leave alone body armour, night vision goggles etc!!)
  6. He's just a normal lad isn't he. Actually I do sympathise with him as much as I am able to with any sloany over privileged type. The boy seems pretty level headed and his heart's in the right place. If he wasn't who he was this would all be absolutely moot; he's pretty earnest about wanting to do his job and be like any other; it's a ridiculous situation that such lengths have to be gone to to achieve this, but that's the situation he's in. Best of luck to him I say. Personally I wish the papers would exercise self-censorship a bit more often and stop citing public interest rather than public's interest. Say, Paris Hilton wears some hot pants, or britney a bit bonkers again, Eastender a bit drunk in paparazzo stalked club or footballer shags bird etc etc etc Mike Skinner summed it up perfectly for me 'To be honest,' he laughs, 'I did go a bit George Best for a while ... I just didn't do it where everyone else tends to do it. You see papers and magazines full of celebrities falling out of bars pissed, and you think "oh, that's terrible - all the photographers taking pictures of them", but then you realise if they didn't want that to happen they wouldn't have gone to the bars where all the photographers hang out ... I fall out of this bar fucking every week and no one knows about it.'
  7. "One day I'll get you all up to Sydenham!!!" Ooh yes, can we do the railway? If there are enough of us we'll be sure to catch Louisa next time she falls off her stool.
  8. Hurrah, it was in the right room after all. Let us know your live name and you can join sean, onion and i on Halo 3 rocket racing. EDMockers
  9. bonnie prince billy no bad news
  10. Ha ha, of course yo ucan, I meant the Montpelier though.
  11. Get A BT line, and then you can go with just about anyone as a reseller, but BT aren't bad by any stretch. This is a pretty trustworthy site, and BT is a bit worse than my chaps, but perfectly adequate http://www.thinkbroadband.com/isp/compare.html?isp_7=1&isp_14=1&commit=Compare Are you sure you need broadband? a 3G card (depending on its speed) may suffice (it's a card that slots directly in to your pc which is basically a mobile phone for data without the phone stuff..if that makes any sense)
  12. Quadrophenia is one of those albums I revisit infrequently (its a demanding listen), but it's just superb whenever I do.
  13. Is the eccentric, feisty and rather pretty waitress still there? Anyone, anyone?
  14. I liked the story at the end. http://sleevage.com/dj-shadow-the-outsider/
  15. Ganapati are take away I think, but won't do it if they're too busy in the restaurant.
  16. I thought most of the predictions were being somewhat optimistic about west ham's chances against Chelsea, but even I didn't predict it would be as bad as 4-0 against 10 men. I fear Curbishley syndrome, strong first half of season followed by apathetic rubbish once Premiership safety assured, seems to be taking hold at upton park.
  17. A hah!!! How was it all, do tell do tell!!!
  18. Of the above list the Montpelier is the only one not to have experienced a visitation from the itinerant court that is the EDF drinks. I'm still partial to the Castle, but Montpelier is fine by me.
  19. Am I right in thinking that David Bowie used to write his songs by chopping up copies of the Daily Mail and putting the words in random order. My favourite song was Single Mother Slags with those immortal lines Birds of a feather can't keep their legs together We should put them on island with immigrants and heather
  20. Corr me too...me too.
  21. Sorry DC, yes it was. Again Atila, who is your ire aimed at. The guy defended himself and killed someone in the process. If killings weren't investigated that would be a disturbing trend. Police investigated it and felt it to be a clear cut case of self defence, they made their recommendations to the CPS who reviewd the evidence and concurred and didn't bring this to the courts. So what's making you quiet so upset?
  22. You might want to read up on the separation of powers. Police investigate, get a suspect and the evidence. The CPS reviews it and decides whether they will take it to court for a prosecution where it's brought before a judge and, generally, 12 good men and true. Which bit do you have an issue with? If not the CPS then who? The media perhaps? I really hope you're not suggesting the police should decide.
