Old sweet shop was called The Cabin. Must ask former hairdresser at Kevin and Anne's if she remembers it.
  2. Repeated message from August 2007... "I?m the third generation of a family who has attended Honor Oak Baptist Church (corner of Forest Hill and Mundania Road) since the 1930s so have a little inside information! The church is being divided vertically in half so at one end there?ll be an area of worship (upstairs), a hall and kitchen (downstairs) and then apartments built at the other end. The church (as in the congregation) still meets in the hall on Sundays at 11am and 7pm. The hall is also used during the week for various meetings. If you?re interested in knowing more about the church please stop by. The members and congregation of HOBC are certainly glad about the new development and looking forward to having a building which no longer leaks, costs a fortune to heat and has more than one WC!" For more information on the development see... Manhattan Loft Corporation website. Completion date... unknown but very pleased to see the scaffolding finally going up! The pigeons may soon have to vacate the biggest bird house in SE22! EDD
  3. Unfortunately I was unable to attend this year's fete on the Rye but I know my mother enjoyed help making some bunting for the occasion! For those of you who like village shows you might want to visit the Camberwell Gardens Guild Autumn Show on Saturday 8 September from 2.30pm - 4.30pm at Clubland Methodist Hall, 54 Camberwell Road SE5 (entrance in Grosvenor Terrace). I know it's slightly off the beaten track but worth stopping by and something of an oasis from the hussle and bussle of the Walworth Road. Classes include Fruit and Veg, Cut blooms, Handicraft and Photography.
  4. I?m the third generation of a family who has attended Honor Oak Baptist Church (corner of Forest Hill and Mundania Road) since the 1930s so have a little inside information! The church building will continue to house Honor Oak Baptist Church. The church is being divided vertically in half so at one end there?ll be an area of worship (upstairs), a hall and kitchen (downstairs) and then apartments built at the other end. The building isn?t being knocked down. Interestingly the architect and not the building is listed and key to keeping the building in one piece. The church (as in the congregation) still meets in the hall on Sundays at 11am and 7pm. The hall is also used during the week for various meetings, occasional games of badminton, Girls? Brigade, and a new group called Slightly Ballroom. If you?re interested in knowing more about the church please stop by. The members and congregation of HOBC are certainly glad about the new development and looking forward to having a building which no longer leaks, costs a fortune to heat and has more than one WC! The refurbishment is yet to start (what?s another few months when it?s been 10+ years in the planning). It will be interesting to see what can be done in what would probably have become a ruin or bland block of flats if MLC hadn?t seen an opportunity. I only wish I could afford to buy an apartment!
  5. The Park Side Cafe was recommended to me the other day. A good butchers and bakers would be nice and... a few hanging baskets! It will be interesting to see how the new traffic lights (at the junction with Colyton and Dunstan's road) fare in tomorrow's rush hour!
  6. Having been a follower of the SE1 Forum for sometime (place of work), it?s great to find one for SE22 (the place to live!). Thought I would just comment on the Manhattan Loft Company thread. I?m the third generation of a family who has attended Honor Oak Baptist Church (corner of Forest Hill and Mundania Road) since the 1930s. The church building is indeed being turned into flats but will still house Honor Oak Baptist Church. The church is being divided vertically in half so there?ll be an area of worship, a hall and kitchen at one end and then apartments built at the other end. The building isn?t being knocked down. It?s the architect (not the building) that is listed and key to keeping the building in one piece. The church (as in the congregation) still meets in the hall on Sundays at 11am and 7pm. The hall is also used during the week for church meetings, occasional games of badminton, Girls? Brigade, and a new group called Slightly Ballroom. If you?re interested in knowing more about the church please stop by. The refurbishment is yet to start (what?s another few months when it?s been 10+ years in the planning). It will be interesting, however, to see what can be done in what would probably have become a ruin if MLC hadn?t seen an opportunity. I only wish I too could afford to buy an apartment! I?d better start saving! Well done to those who have set this site up, I?ve become quite addicted! Time to log off or perhaps just another 5 minutes of browsing! EDD
