Abandoned Ferrari!!! (I’m not joking!)
Eats Dulwich replied to Angell34's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
hah ha! On the subject of dodgy keys and also police protocol with stolen cars, my first car was a 1969 mini which you could open and start by wiggling a small flat-headed screwdriver. No wonder it was stolen. About a week later the police called to say they'd spotted it on the Dog Kennel Hill estate opposite East Dulwich station. In those days parking was free so at least I didn't receive any tickets, but I surprised the police just left a message with the address and expected me to go and pick it up. I was slightly worried I'd have to tackle the culprits myself when I arrived. -
Post Office Lordship Lane is Broken
Eats Dulwich replied to giggirl's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Have they still not fixed it? that's pretty shabby. I took this picture on New Year's Day and it's been like this at least since before Xmas. -
I doubt if it was something special - it has been full a few times I've been recently and when I have been able to get a space I've been lucky and bagged the only one available. I think there are only around 15 general spaces. Others are for staff, blue badge holders or EVs. I guess in winter people are more likely to drive, it wouldn't take much to fill all the spaces with the different things going on at the surgery/pharmacy such as blood tests, picking up prescriptions. It's possible a lot of the cars are in and out in 15 mins, i've not monitored it closely. This morning with all spaces filled when I arrived there were a couple of cars loitering in the hope of a space becoming available. I didn't want to risk it. As has been said, you can drive in and out and be caught on camera and not get a ticket but I'm not sure what the grace period is, if there is one. Like you, I don't think a significant number of people are parking there to go shopping - it's too far from Lordship Lane as I found out this morning when i had to run from LL to Tessa Jowell! i guess the car parking spaces just can't cope with the number of legit drivers using Tessa Jowell and if that's the case not a lot can be done about it.
-
Sorry if my post was misleading, I certainly wasn't intending to encourage it. Quite the opposite. But maybe some are doing it already. This morning i had an appointment at tessa jowell and there was nowhere to park, not for the first time. In fact i did the opposite - I parked on Lordship Lane and ran!
-
There's nothing to stop you signing in then going shopping in Lordship Lane though as long as you don't overstay you won't get a fine.
-
Just reviving this thread rather than starting a new one, as there must be an obvious answer to my question that I haven't spotted so this might be resolved quickly! I've been using Tessa Jowell recently and If the cameras in the car park pick up your number plate when you arrive and leave why do you have to put your registration in anyway - surely they have all the info they need on film to contact you if you overstay?
-
Yes, but only until around 8pm from what i can tell!
-
You can park for free for 30 mins in Melbourne Grove round corner and Grove Vale. It's a bit of a pain because you still have to register by phone as if paying but it's a lot closer to M&S. Or you could always go to M&S on Lordship Lane, parking for a short time is fairly easy around there.

Trinco is at 20 Lordship Lane, near Goose Green. The building is called Oru Space although I did notice the other day that there is a small neon sign that says Trinco outside though easy to miss. Good for Sri Lankan vegetarian curries, not good if you are after chicken tikka masala-style food that all the other curry restaurants in Lordship Lane serve (edit - sorry Moovart, I've just seen you've also answered this!). -

I think Trinco might have everything you need on one level, including delicious vegetarian food and toilets. Little bit confusing because the location is known as Oru, but the restaurant is called Trinco. At least I think that's right! I tried to untangle my own confusion in this review here. Goose Green bus stop is almost right outside. https://open.substack.com/pub/eatsdulwich/p/restaurant-review-orutrinco?utm_campaign=post-expanded-share&utm_medium=web -

Good of you to give it a second chance. It's fair value but I'd rather pay a little more for something better and there's so much to choose from in Lordship Lane (though admittedly I've been a little disloyal and have found myself venturing to Rye Lane more than I expected in recent months). -

yes, inside looks like a squeeze, we went in early summer and sat outside, really nice way to spend the evening and watch the world (and knackered commuters) go by. It's time that the tale was told. I'm afraid it was Love Dulwich, which has had some good mentions on here. We only had a mezze and a side dish but the mezze was pretty sad and the side dish wasn't as described on the menu. Maybe other things on offer were better but we've not been inclined to go back. -

Just a quick post to say that my restaurant reviews column is now one year old. There are 45 reviews here* - mostly of local places (some sadly now defunct, others thriving). There are a couple of recipes from a period when I couldn't afford to eat out, a couple of moans about my health when I couldn't eat out on doctor's orders and a couple of reviews beyond our manor. But the main thing is that it is a free, useful guide to local dining and, I hope, an entertaining read. You can, of course, pay to subscribe or follow for free to get the reviews directly into your inbox as I don't want to spam EDF with every review (doctor says I'm not allowed spam anyway). The pictures below come from my two most popular reviews - Persepolis (new SE22 spin-off opening soon) and Norbert's, a great addition to East Dulwich. Please have a read and please consider subscribing. Did I mention you can subscribe for free? https://eatsdulwich.substack.com/ *It would have been 46 but one review didn't run because the meal was so disappointing. I try not to be negative. To paraphrase Boyzone (or is it Westlife?) I said it best by saying nothing at all. -

If you are sending it via buying a label from the royal mail website you have to put down in the weight of the item so in theory it should then only tell you the places where you can drop it off but I wouldn't bank on it! -

How widely are people aware of Royal Mail's sending service - if it's a parcel you can pay and print off label at home and just drop off. link below. They will even pick it up for a small extra charge (maybe even free depending on item). I did this on Monday and was aiming to drop off at LL PO but saw the queue was stretching way out into the street so diverted over to corner shop in Upland Road and dropped it off there. https://send.royalmail.com/?cid=SM_RMP_0223&s_kwcid=AL!10933!3!781157212692!b!!g!!royal mail tracked 48&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=23192018280&gbraid=0AAAAADnU4TDfp6wGzzGiPexY0ahf0UnAT&gclid=Cj0KCQiAyP3KBhD9ARIsAAJLnnYKkFDCIiPu21DB_Iv_oQaBMiAsWz8toFN1mHaGgYdQFRc5U9UfZ8MaApJpEALw_wcB It might help morale if they got their sign fixed. It's been like this since before Christmas. -
Excellent Christmas meal at Franklins!

I checked - the Hanway Street place was Mandeer - it moved to New Oxford Street I think and was replaced by Hakkasan - very different prices. -

Was that the one where you put a coin in and it squirted water at you? what was the name of the one in hanway street - whatever you ordered it came on a segmented tray like you get in prison (I imagine). Prices were a steal. -
I've got lingering cold symptoms but i also have an itchy forehead. Google suggests it might be a sign of skin cancer but there are no moles, marks or even a rash, it just itches, so i really don't think it's that. Anyone else got a cold/itch combo?

Steve used to joke that my old VW Golf kept them in business. I've got a more reliable car now so maybe that's why they are closing. Sad day.

I hate to be that guy but i don't think you'll get much joy calling 999 if your phone has been stolen.
