  3. I recently serviced/repaired a friend's sewing machine (I used to do this for a living), and she is persuaded that there are many people in this area who also want their machines serviced, but cannot find anyone to do it. So, if you do want your sewing machine checked out, then drop me a PM and we can sort something out. Steve
  4. Hmmm, Did anyone replying to this listing ever get a response..?

  7. The OP needs to take a step back and rephrase his/her arguments Having said that, I agree with some of the arguments as to the lack of consultation, and the inability of the council to be able to quantify the effectiveness of the measures outside of a ?very? limited area. However, I have been out shopping in the past, and called in to shops on my way home, which were not far from my front door. Of course these days, I could, and do, use home delivery services to some extent, but then that too would have an effect on local businesses. Lastly, these road closures have been incredibly divisive in local communities, and have been implemented in a hugely one-sided manner. Other than that, I wish you all a peaceful lead-up to the next lockdown..!
  8. Ho James et al, I don't know if this has been covered or not (I did look...) But given the remarks on here regarding the Northcroft Rd Market, and the fact that the (cough) NHS App keeps reminding me that 'SE22 area risk level is HIGH' has anyone implemented such a simple this as has been done in California? i.e. Street signage in visible warning colours just to make people more constantly aware of the situation, e.g. like the one below?

If I had any criticism of Helen Hayes, it would be that she is not a Tory MP. Because if she was, I would be able to send her multitudinous scathing emails, and attending her surgeries, demanding that the Government start putting the good of the nation ahead of its own agenda and the agenda of its donors.
  10. I would NOT recommend William Bailey, as they were slow, to respond, failed to communicate and I had to email William Bailey directly several times in order to get a response from the person dealing with my conveyancing. Add that to the instance of being charged incorrectly for a registration fee, (which I discovered whilst checking THEIR invoice).
  11. I've just posted a recommendation for Barbara on the forum... Ph. 07581 443 063 I can't confirm if she's available this weekend, but worth a try /forum/read.php?30,2154882
  12. Hi, This is a follow up to a previous recommendation as Barbara now has time to take on some additional work. Currently, she's looking for one-off 'end of tenancy', or spring (autumn) cleaning jobs, rather than long term weekly cleans. I still recommend her, given that she will happily tell people off for wearing shoes where they aren't supposed to (it was a plumber who thought that the clean areas didn't relate to him) He soon changed his ways :) Barbara is happy to provide additional letters of recommendation to interested employers. She has also asked that we let the forum know her rates and contact number: ?15 per hour but will quote directly for one-off jobs. 07581 443 063 Thanks Steve
  13. I recommend Annie (can't remember her surname). She is a professional tailor/seamstress who does very good work. Ph.07956 527 824 Steve
  14. So far, the parcel I've been expecting has logged just under 500 miles :-( From Essex coast pickup point To - Coventry - National Hub sorting office To - To - London S.E. Depot - Crayford To - SE22 - 'REFUSED DELIVERY' I put that in Caps because it is NOT true,we've been waiting for this package To - London S.E. Depot - Crayford To - Coventry - National Hub sorting office for re-delivery So, the best possible case is that the parcel then has another 115 mile journey just to get back to me (or, to wherever they tried to deliver on Monday...) :-o At least Hermes/DPD know how to find my address
  15. I don't often look at this forum, so a bit late with this. I sa the leak too, and knocked on the door of the flat to let them know. The tenant said that the owner was aware, and 'was going to do something about it..' I told the tenant that when similar happened to me, the cellar started to flood quite quickly. Tenant: It's Okay, we don't have a cellar. Me: what's this coal scuttle in the front step then? Tenant:........ Got out my handy torch & shone it down the coal scuttle plate... One Cellar, half full of water (a lot of the conversions just wall off the (dirty, nasty) cellar, not realising how much storage is down there) I mentioned electrics/rot/subsiding floor supports. Strangely, t'was fixed the next morning :-)))
  16. Hi, This is a follow up to my previous recommendation as Barbara now has time to take on some additional work. Currently, she's looking for one-off 'end of tenancy', or spring clean jobs, rather than long term weekly cleans. I still recommend her, especially after she told the plumber off for not taking off his shoes when he went from the refurb area into her clean area. Have you ever seen an embarrassed plumber...? I have :-)
  17. This post is just to recommend our Cleaner. Barbara has been cleaning for us for about 3 years now and we've always been very happy with her work, sufficiently so that, when she returned to work after having a child, we immediatly took her on again. Barbara is happy to provide additional letters of recommendation to interested employers. She has also asked that we let the forumn know her rates and contact number: ?12 per hour 07581 443 063 Thanks Steve

  19. Well, I'm not sure of the restaurant part of the Patch, but I can say that the Bar area falls far below expectations. I went to a friend's leaving drinks there last night. The initial impression was one of chaos behind the bar, however it may have just been new staff who didn't know the ropes (or so I thought at first). After the 1st Pint/Wine/G&T we ordered food. As there was an offer of Bar menu food & a drink for ?12 several of us opted for that, however after tasting the only beer in the offer, Czech Kozel :-( we asked for the house wine (best not to comment on the quality of that). When the drinks arrived, there in front of us was a pint of the Kozel which we hadn't ordered and not all the Red Wines we had. When we'd finally sorted out the order, we were informed that 'it's best to keep the customer happy' in a manner that suggested we'd not ordered properly. Two of us ordered Beef Burgers cooked RARE. I know that it's some restaurants policy to always cook burgers medium, but the serving staff always say so at the time, but no, they were happy to take an order for rare burgers. This made us very happy for a while, as a restaurant which can server Rare beefburgers can only do so if they make their own beef patties :-) Of course, when they came out, the burgers were that bleak shade of gray throughout :-( Another of our party ordered tagliatelle, not noticing that as well as the mushroom one she wanted, there was also a seafood version available. Again, you'd expect staff to query which one, but no, to her surprise when the order arrived she got the seafood version. Partly her own fault, but again, you'd expect staff to be aware of the options on the menu. When the food arrived at the table, another companion asked the Barman/waiter for some tomato sauce. His response was that she'd have to get it from the bar. She went to the bar, but there were no condiments there so (after waiting to be noticed) she was served by the same barman, who told her that she had to 'order it' at the bar, he then went away and got some for her.... The attitude of the bar staff was a mix between 'I'm doing you a favour by serving you' to, 'helpful but inexperienced'. So, overall a fail on the bar area, but happily for one of us.... ...the seafood tagliatelle was actually very tasty.....
  20. Or alternatively; http://www.videojug.com/film/how-to-make-fresh-pasta I do have a pasta machine, but I don't make pasta often, so of course it lives in a cupboard. Then I learnt how to make pasta this way and realised that the machine could be redundant. Also this is more satisfying (although I'd use a food processor to make the dough initially). :-o
  21. Last, last word, Check that there aren't 2 (or more) Anti-Virus programs installed. This causes major conflict as they both interfere with each other. Steve
