  1. Wow, that's really mean spirited. Sorry about your car.
  2. Why would anyone write a response like that, with such a sudden, distressing detail as that, on a thread like this?? Written by someone who is obviously really upset about the loss of their cat? Why would you do that?? So sorry to hear about your cat Cinders.
  3. Poor you, that would have really shaken me up. So strange that they didn't ring the bell first to see if you were in.
  4. I have two lamps that need repairing, can anyone recommend someone who does this kind of thing? Thanks
  5. It's perfect that the last focusing comment was from The Cat.
  6. We are selling our house in Brockley. We have subsidence in our bay window which is completely covered by our insurance, however we need to sell before the schedule of works is complete and we are finding that buyers are not able to get a mortgage lender to give them a mortgage. We are now having to restrict our search to a cash buyer and take a significant financial hit on the price of the house. Does anyone have any experience of trying to sell a house mid claim, or any advice?
  7. My 12 year old daughter is struggling with french at school, I am looking for a tutor to come to our house in Brockley after school for an hour every week to help build up her confidence. Would this suit anyone? Thanks, Deborah
  8. My 12 year old daughter sings and writes her own songs. She plays piano but is keen to learn the guitar to support her singing/songwriting. I am looking for a female teacher because she is quite shy and would feel more confident to sing in front of a woman. We live in Brockley. Can anyone recommend anyone? Thanks, Deborah
  9. Be really careful yourself too, if you are thinking of putting a message on the Bengal cat's collar for the owner. My mum's cat was chased into the house by a neighbour's bengal, my mum was sitting in the room and simply stood up to intervene, and the bengal flew at her from 2 feet away and bit her through to the bone on her hand. She went to the GP for a tetanas but the next day her hand was swollen like a blown up rubber glove and she had to go to hospital and be put on an antibiotic drip. The infection spread and she had to have an operation on her hand. It was a majorly upsetting thing for a 70 year old cat lover and she was really shaken up by it. We never found out who owned the cat and I felt really powerless about it. The vet told me that an owner is not liable anyway, and this seems extraordinary to me. I think Bengal cats are more territorial than other breeds and clearly more aggressive. I hope you can find the owner of the one that is causing your cat so much stress, I'm sure most people would be horrorfied to hear that their cat was causing such chaos. I would!
  10. So sorry this happened to your mum Magda, she must feel really shocked and upset.
  11. Can wholeheartedly agree with all the above. Nicola has given advice and done work in my garden and my neighbour's, and has been fantastic. She is very efficient and organised and hardworking and lovely to have around. Cannot recommend her highly enough.
  12. My son was on The Rye this afternoon, I will ask him if he saw anything. Aren't there always adults in the adventure playground bit? Well done for intervening so effectively.
  13. Thank you Cle for your response. I will bore off with my faux shock. You carry on with your ongoing jokes about gyppos. All good.
  14. We should have a hashtag. #EastDulwichbingyppos In response to you Cle, who have also referred to these two women as 'slatterns' in a previous post. I am more shocked by your use of derogatory language on a public forum as if it were the most normal thing in the world, your territorial obsession with your own front garden, your apparent lack of empathy and your small minded view of the world, than by the fact that there are two women rummaging through bins. I would be more worried if my children read your comments than if they saw two people looking through the things we had thrown out through our living room window.
  15. On Dundalk Road in Brockley today. Strange patter.
  16. Let's all get some chalk and put a circle with a cross through it on our front doors.
  17. Hello. Does anyone have a child in the current year 7 at Deptford Green and would be happy to have a chat with me about it? Thanks.
  18. Wow! How impressive. Would love to talk to you about how it's going if you were up for that?
  19. Is anyone home schooling a current year 7 child?
  20. Do you mean how much to pay?! I pay between ?7 - 9 per hour for my babysitters. A childminder who works from home and has more than one child in their care is cheaper.
  21. Agree with above. My mother is a photographer and she charges ?150 for the session, then provides a disc with all the photos on included in that price. If the client wants to order prints, the cost for the prints is extra.
  22. I am so sorry not to have thanked everyone for their helpful advice. I posted this on a different part of the site and assumed it had been taken down as I couldn't find it. I have just come across it here in the lounge now looking for something else. So belated thanks. I took the money as I had no receipt for the trousers and suddenly life felt too short to pursue this with the owner of the shop who was intractable. Incidentally, I can sew. I sew a lot. But these were very smart trousers which had been torn when sitting on a nail and I thought they needed more professional attention. Wish I had done it myself now.
  23. I took a pair of my boyfriend's smart trousers into my local dry cleaners because they do repairs and the trousers had a rip in them. I paid in advance for the repair. They have lost the trousers. I have been in 7 times over the last 3 weeks and they say they are looking in their other shop, or they have to speak to the manager, or that they will phone me the next day with a plan of action. They never do.. I have remained polite and patient. Today I went in again and spoke to the manager. He offered me an absolute limit of ?20 for the trousers and refused to even discuss any more than that. The trousers will cost ?50 to replace. I have refused to accept his offer. What can I do? Should I just accept that it was a mistake, they have lost the trousers and I must accept the ?20? Or should I take it further? Any advice welcome. Thanks.
