  1. People who write their area code down or say it as 0207 or 0208. Applies doubly to businesses.
  2. Southern rail are taking the piss again?
  3. Can't see anything but a draw unless England collapse or they get the long handles out. They're not scoring fast enough to make the games safe (about 250 lead) before tea, when they really need to declare in the hour after lunch to get enough time to bowl us out. Interesting test though. Should be a corker of a series.
  4. Oh, please. Do you misrepresent people's views on purpose or do you just have comprehension difficulties? Stop conflating side comments as direct criticism of the shopkeeper in question. They're not - and if you descend to needing to do that it's probably because your argument is poor. Put your own arguments forwards. Twisting other peoples comments to try and make something out of them they are not is just disingenuous. Alleged perp, thank you. And people on here disagree that that is a proportionate response and have said so. What exactly is your problem? You seem to claim that 'society' is on your side, but when the members of the same society say differently we should sit down and shut up? Strange view of society. I suspect the shopkeeper has taken down the photos as the public response has not been supportive. In that case, there's your 'society' view. When police (allegedly as we only have the third hand view of the shopkeeper comments to confirm this) start working outside the rule of law it is a human rights issue. It's nothing to do with the shopkeeper. And since when have you defined the programme, anyway? I suspect it would be a badly thought out programme if we did let you. No, you're being silly now. Shoplifting is theft, pure and simple and costs businesses over ?4 billion per year. It's not in the same league as misbehaving children by a long chalk. It is in the same league as thieves and should be put through the courts properly. End of.
  5. So the police wouldn't have acted upon it, but would have given the OK to plaster their photo's up in the store? In my best Jeremy {axman voices: Yeeeeeeeeaaaasssss...
  6. I thought there was a three digit one?
  7. Isn't there a new general non-emergency number?
  8. Unsurprisingly, I'm with IV on this. Human rights would be infringed if a) the people in question have not been found guilty in a court of law and b) the police have given this is OK. At that point the state - and thus the Human Rights Convention - would be relevant.

    Wireless

Just had a bit of a google and couldn't find anything that says you need a certain wifi channel. Have you tried rebooting the router?
  11. DJKillaQueen Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > James. not for the first time have you got your > figures wrong Why do you say that, DJKQ? James' links to the Beeb backed his figures. I googled "Sheffield forgemasters 3000 jobs" - the only figure I could find was that 3000 people signed a petition associated with the loan.

    Wireless

Unless you've changed something on the router, wireless should already be enabled. You'll need the little pinkish card with the network password on too. They'll have your network/router name on it too. When you pull up wireless networks, it should offer at least one network that looks like SKY012345 that matches the name on the card.
  13. Here's a non-crime of touching an American stick...
  14. Wanting to use the Sky+ remote to rewind a conversation and hear it again. This especially happens listening to the radio in the car.

Who is the selector of who and the arbiter what is fair? It's all very 'people like us' and 'people like them'. I don't want to see citizens - fair minded or otherwise - doing what they (often mistakenly) think is 'right' because the law is apparently lacking. It is just not a good path to take and will certainly end up at a dark place. It's how that paediatrician's office got attacked because the local 'fair-minded citizenry' couldn't tell the difference between a paedophile and a paediatrician (and more bizarrely, didn't stop to consider why on earth a paedophile would have an office with a brass plaque). > Presumably you also think this thread is wrong and > should be deleted for defamation? Have you > reported it to Admin? If I was admin I'd have seriously considered redacting the reg number from the thread. I would say that the OP went about it the wrong way and he/she was quickly and correctly advised to report the matter to the police. I've never understood why a crime they have witnessed is worth reporting to a forum but not the police - especially when they had the reg plate of the vehicle. Maybe they hoped that a bunch of 'fair-minded citizens' would sort the matter out for them!?

  19. The police (with the help of both past and present governments) are a little too keen to somehow 'get' those people that they cannot pursue under normal law. This sort of thing, the taking down of the FITwatch site, control orders are all trying to work around the normal rule of law. The latest came today with the new of a new domestic violence initiative, where 'abusers' can be made to leave their homes for up to four weeks. Why did I use quotation marks around 'abusers'? Because these measures can be used even if there was not enough evidence to charge a suspect. Can't prove the charge, but can order them to leave their home?? I think the same is happening in the shoplifting case. Police haven't got the evidence to charge these people, but want to 'get' them anyway. It's getting to be a bit too much like 'Life on Mars' round here for my liking.

    Gove

All good points, Ted, but I think the bit about "multiply tested, targeted and lobotimised drones that were once called children" (well, at least the first two) has to be laid at the door of the previous government. It's something couldn't be put into a published league list, Blair/Brown somehow made it so it could.

Don't apologise - it really is one of your strengths and your efforts are much appreciated. But, as I said, do ensure that the exact nature of the problem is known so that the right solution can be found. Discussing solutions before this is done is putting the cart before the horse. And sometimes, just sometimes, doing nothing can be the least-worst solution.
  22. It is. >:D
  23. > Do you live on Melbourne, Derwent, Elsie or Tintagel? No, but I think SophieSofa does, as well as others on this thread. I do live 5 mins from ED station though (not on those roads). > Do you park a car and commute by train? No. See above. As I said James - are you sure of the exam question yet? Do you *know* that commuting is the problem?
  24. Yes... option 3. Do nothing as the cure is worse than the disease.
  25. cate Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > And then what? Well, at least then we would have some idea of what the problem is... or isn't. At the moment, some people are bandying about possible solutions without really knowing what the exam question is.
