  1. Is it? Do you take into account pay per hour or annual salary? Do you include the better pension provisions and other perks?
  2. DJKQ, There is nothing wrong with parking a trolley or a basket somewhere off to the side - I do it myself. But there is the person that is pushing down the middle of the aisle who just stops and abandons it for a minute or two, oblivious to the fact that other people are trying to shop as well. They are the enemies of the the STMS.

I like to think I have higher standards than that.
  4. To be fair on James, the plural of 'anecdote' is not 'data' and a lot of the challenges to his post seem based on anecdotal evidence. I'm sure if I was burgled and heard of other similar stories, I'd be thinking there was a crime wave going on, but the stats say that's not the case. That doesn't mean to say each individual case isn't heartbreaking to the victim. But, make sure you do report it to the police if something does happen. They can only count what they are told about.
  5. I propose a new East Dulwich society. It will be a secret organisation that, when selfish and unthinking people leave their trolley in Sainsburys right smack bang in the middle of an aisle - or worse the main centre corridor - whilst they nip off to grab something at the other end of the aisle/store will quietly move said trolley to a safe place at least three aisles away. Who is in?
  6. The council is probably planning on organising them. So don't expect much. I can foresee a slow parade of 4x4s up Lordship Lane protesting against the removal of the middle-class child benefit, though.

    preference gifts.

Is that the one you couldn't fight your way out of? Has it dried out yet?

  9. If it's the News of the World it will undoubtedly be given the angle of 'rogered by a lodger's todger.."

  13. Good grief - dumping someone in public? No way. If she's gonna cry loudly and call you a b'stard, she'll do it anyway. Better to not have an audience. Anyway, I believe the modern method is via text. :)) In cyberspace, no one can hear her scream. And swear. And cry and rant.

    Chilean Miners

I thought Sky News criticising the rescue teams for pandering to the world media - all whilst maintaining constant coverage feeds - absurdly hypocritical. "I think this feed from the mine we are showing you is impinging on the miners privacy". Well turn the sodding thing off then...

Do you have any stats for that - or is it just your perception?
  16. What do you mean by an 'insider'?
  17. Yvette Cooper will kick you in the Balls?
  18. I thought it was also brought in post-war to help restock the population. Hardly a necessity these days. And you will still have that right. I would just like the right to not have to pay for those kids out of my taxes. I don't think (or at least hope) that anyone here is asking for legislation to prevent people having babies. Just lets stop encouraging it by handing them money for it?
  19. Yeah, but it's a bit like being asked if you want to be punched in the head four times or five times. It's still people wanting to punch you in the head - the fact that one of them wants to punch you 20% less is of little comfort.
  20. Labour would have made cuts, too. Your point is...?
  21. This has to be my favourite - the headline/journo name combination is an absolute classic... http://regmedia.co.uk/2010/03/26/times_grab.jpg
  22. I spent some time in Southend. The nightly car parade up and down and up and down the foreshore with the girls sitting watching was a glorious sight to behold. It was the first time I discovered that there are girls out there who consider a child as a career move. It was like a study in genetics - they would have discussions on whether shagging so-and-so would result in a pretty/sporty/whatever baby. Scary people.
  23. Great tactics with electricity/gas people: tell them it's all in your other half's name and they handle all that and they are not in at the moment. In my experience, they give up at that point.
  24. AVG and AVAST! are just as good as paid-for versions (and in fact less processor hungry than McAfee). I use AVG myself.
