Perhaps pointing out that the very people who voted for Brexit will be the ones to suffer? Because thinking that more jobs will be available at, say, the Sunderland plant when Brexit forces foreign workers to leave is fairly pointless if the plant goes as well. 7000-14000 job losses would be devastating for the region. But, as the notable statistic that non-EU immigration was higher than EU immigration was completely ignored in the run up to the vite, I really don't think any of it will sinking in until it actually happens. Had May failed to convince Nissan to temporarily stay following the referendum, I think the backlash may have begun. But, since the Nissan chief was back in Downing St this week, there is still a lot of uncertainty.
  2. Only obvious stuff, I'm afraid. 1) We stayed here - really recommend it. http://www.bbapeaceofrome.it 2) If you are going, buy tour tickets for the Colosseum and Vatican online before you go, you'll save a lot of time in queues for the Colosseum and unless you book ahead, you may not get into the Vatican. 3) If you do the Vatican, in the far right corner of the Sistine chapel (after you see the famous ceiling), there is a door that tour groups use, which takes you directly to St. Peters Basilica. There is usually a guard on it, but not always, and you can often slip in with tour groups. We managed it and it was well worth it as it saves you having to go out the Vatican, walking around and standing in the long line for security (again).
  3. I've got the 'Bonnie Tyler' sat-nav. It keeps telling me to turn around, and every now and then it falls apart. (yes, I know it's an old joke)

Takes all sorts. Good lord - you'd whine like a spoilt child if a cycle/car reverse of the first two posts happened on a thread started by a cyclist. Hypocrite.
  5. As Blah Blah mentioned, Malwarebytes is terrific at detecting such stuff. If I get any sort of feeling something is not as it should be, I run Malwarebytes for my own piece of mind. And also, as BB said, get yourself an ad-blocker. Stops such shenanigans and makes most websites much easier to read.
  6. I'm actually more surprised that the other stat made it past the editors - normally they just don't print anything that doesn't square with The Agenda. For instance, just in the last week, this story would never, ever be covered in the Guardian. Or this story even. But, switch the genders...

The EU side is much more complicated than that as 27 countries have to agree. Some individual countries will have to ratify the deal via parliament and, in the case of some countries like Belgium, some of the local parliaments may need to ratify it as well. Mind you, the rate the talks are progressing, there will be nothing to ratify...

  12. I have a little sympathy for the chip-dropper if he didn't notice. But the ciggie chucker? Good. Maybe they'll think twice next time.

All the disadvantages of being in the single market, but with few of the advantages. A special kind of brilliant, don't you think? > > or have any direct ability to shape its rules in future? > > How does half-wit writer draw this conclusion? Easy. At the moment, the UK has quite a say in EU rules and regs. It also must abide by them. As from Brexit, the UK has no say in EU rules and regulations (as it will no longer have any voting capacity), but must align it's rules and regs. > >> , but it could yet have to play by them in perpetuity. > > The EU probably won't exist in 25 years let alone > perpetuity. It might not. But if it does, then the UK will be aligned to it's rules. In other words, Brexit in name only, except that the UK will be voiceless. So the whole 'take back control' has become 'lose any semblance of control'. Remainers like me are very happy with the deal. You, on the other hand, just got sold down the river.
  14. That's probably right, Sue - but just don't get hung up on the 'features'. Just find the best looking screen you can. Second tip: you can't buy a screen that is too big, unless you cannot physically get it into the room.

  16. Try reverting to a previous system restore point. Windows should (!) have made a restore point before the update. Google "Windows System Restore" with you flavour of Windows.
  17. Well someone has been changing it - when I was a kid it started "Our Father, who art in heaven...".
  18. Having bought an all-bells-and-whistles Smart TV, which not only has the catchup stuff, but also Freesat and it records as well. My verdict? Don't. It's does everything you want, but not very well. Get yourself a good quality screen and then add on an Amazon or Roku stick or even a Humax recorder. Just make sure the screen has at least one (and preferably more) HDMI inputs and maybe a USB or two. As for the internet channels, well we used to have Netflix, but I cancelled that as I am more a movie person than a box set person, and the movies became a bit 'meh'. So, we switched to Prime and although the movies aren't really much better, the whole package makes it almost worth it - TV + One day delivery + Kindle lending + special sales.

Didn't work twice. I think the DUP have done everyone a ruddy big favour - accidentally, of course. They have just guided the UK towards a soft Brexit. I see the Irish Times is claiming it was actually the Republic's doing ... "Ireland has just saved the UK from the madness of a hard Brexit" is the headline.

Brilliant idea - we could put "Don't leave the EU and send ?192m a week to the NHS instead" on the side of a bus. That'll finish Brexit. After all, it doesn't actually have to be true...

  24. From CricBuzz: "ECB Director of Cricket Andrew Strauss has jumped to the defence of wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow, clarifying that the alleged 'headbutt' is his way of greeting his mates and there certainly was no malice in his action or intent." KP on Twitter: "Strauss says ok to a head butt greeting. Can?t wait to see him again!"
