  1. HP, yes, secondaries are exactly the same. Midivydale, I put our banker (95% certain) school fifth, and our really cast iron certain to get if 3679 people moved between us and banker school sixth. The first four schools were the ones I really wanted. We duly got an offer for the fifth school, although we then ended up getting our first choice from the waiting list.

  3. People who want to spend less. Lidl is cheaper than any home delivery or local shop.
  4. We loved Deptford Green, and it has been undersubscribed in the past (don't know about last year) so East Dulwich kids would definitely get in. It had a dreadful Ofsted two or three years ago but that came out of very specific issues since addressed; in the meantime people were put off. We were impressed by the enthusiasm of the kids and also the teaching staff. Our 'school that got away'. The SENCO was impressive and they have a class in year 7 set up specifically for kids who might have a difficult transition to secondary, basically teaching them primary style for a short period of overlap to support them.
  5. I think the lights are broken at the Court Lane/Townley Road junction. I'm surprised it's still going on as it was happening before 10am. I wonder if there is some bigger problem there as yesterday five cars jumped the red light coming from Turney Road, including someone on a driving lesson. So perhaps the lights were playing up then? It needs sorting out immediately as that junction is already an accident waiting to happen. This morning people had to just drive through red lights.
  6. I stupidly went past this camera doing 20-something this afternoon and remembered this thread. I'm now waiting for my first ever speeding fine to arrive. It's very hard to remember to change down when the traffic is moving at 30. I'm all for driving with due care and attention but I'm finding it very, very hard to do 20 on the 'fast' roads.
  7. All of my councillors were fantastic, and effective, when I had a very stressful problem with Southwark social services. One has since left office, but the others were Andy Simmons and Helen Hayes.
  8. Ackerman does rent-to-buy on instruments, and I assume they're not alone. It's scary pricing, isn't it? I have a lovely clarinet that cost a fortune back in the day and I look back and feel very sorry for my parents having to shell out for it. I was shamefully oblivious at the time.
  9. Thanks, Giacomelli. I'm glad it was some use. Kaffin, case loading midwifery, as the Lanes used to do, is now provided for East Dulwich by what used to be Oakwood, soon to be called Juniper. Give them a ring on 020 8299 5696 and find out how you can register with them.
  10. The Lewisham one is from last year.
  11. Dulwich Picture Gallery often has events for children.
  12. The terms of your lease seem very unfair. You are responsible alone for the roof yet you could equally claim that a leaking roof affects the entire building. I've always had shared responsibility for any major work. Worth investigating whether this could be changed.
  13. Our Kingsdale student gets the bus from the Belvoir Road stop. The 7.45 bus is best in terms of getting there time and also likelihood of getting on, but he frequently pushes it to 8 or beyond.
  14. Also, on Thurs-Sun, Franklins do fantastic chicken sandwiches in the evenings, from a roaster van they've got, or chicken and salad.
  15. As it's come up on here already a few times, and the subject was discussed at yesterday's public meeting of the Maternity Services Liaison Committee, I thought it would be useful to post about the new arrangements. From the end of September, there will be new arrangements for community midwifery. The Kings area will be split into four, and two teams will operate in each. One team will be caseloading midwives, the other community midwives. The caseloading midwives will be the Oakwood team, who will be renamed Juniper. They will continue to take 18 women a month for caseloading care. Referrals will be through postcode via a central point, rather than through any GP connection. Priority will be given to low risk women, those wanting a home birth (even if not necessarily low risk) and women with mental health issues. All other women will be cared for by the community midwives. This team will be called Ivy Green. Antenatal appointments will be in the community rather than at Midwives House. They will also run a postnatal clinic for women well enough to leave the house. Over time it's hoped these midwives will also carry out home births, but for now those will be covered by the Juniper team. None of the Kings homebirth teams will exist. Every woman will have a named midwife throughout pregnancy, so providing more continuity of care for those not under the caseloading team. Members of the community team will provide staffing for the midwifery unit at Kings and also telephone triage services, so more women will see familiar midwives during the birth period. There will also be a team for high risk women across the trust working in the community. One of that team should be working on the labour ward most of the time. The only women who will receive antenatal care in the hospital will be high risk women referred from out of area. Women giving birth in October will remain in their current care, so for example would still be delivered by The Lanes. Other women should be hearing what will happen to them from their existing midwives. Kings is trying to improve continuity of care across the board and provide equal access to services across the whole of the trust. Unfortunately in ED this means some loss of caseloading provision as we have up till now had two teams based here. Hopefully the improvement in community care all round will compensate for this. I hope this isn't too garbled and is useful for people. I don't work for Kings so I may not be able to answer questions - this is a download of information given to the lay representatives at the MSLC.
  16. Brierley will not be working in this area from September. Unfortunately for you the system is changing, so lots of advice on here won't be relevant. But do ring Oakwood.
  17. The system is changing this autumn so things will be different. However if you want a home birth there's no reason you shouldn't be able to have one. If you call the Oakwood team on 020 8299 5696, who will be covering SE22 on an ongoing basis, albeit with a different name, they should be able to help you untangle things. Sorry you're having this stress. Neighbourhood Midwives are also excellent and, because they operate as a social enterprise and employ their midwives, are able to get round insurance issues. I've also had support from Verona as a lactation consultant and she was superb.
  18. Thank you! The site sadly only has kids stuff but it's www.muddypuddles.co.uk. I found it when looking for wellies. They have great wellies.
  19. I had a look too. Sorry but your photos are a bit rubbish. Your second photo is of a corner door and a curtain - why? You don't get any feel for the size of the rooms, or the use of them. Where's the kitchen? People want to see kitchens and bathrooms. Which is your main living room? You could do with some rugs, something to make it look less like empty student accommodation. Good estate agents take great photos. When we sold our flat, I barely recognised it in the photos as it looked so damn good. I echo the recommendation for No Flies. Have a chat to them. And if you haven't already had your place valued, that should give you a good idea of a market price.
  20. Oh, good idea. Although scares me stuff! (I personally am not a natural skier.)
  21. If you leave it till the second two weeks in August, things will be quieter. French people like the first two weeks of the month and go on holiday pretty much en masse.
  22. Thanks, all. Very useful advice. We'll be in the Alps at Christmas, so probably intermediate in terms of coldness for skiing. I've bought the little ones (4 and 2) 3 in 1 coats which can double as winter coats and fleeces this year, so that didn't seem too extravagant. They were ?20 - is that an OK price for this sort of stuff?
  23. Our family is going skiing for the first time at Christmas. I have absolutely no idea what kit is worth buying, which we should hire, and what we CAN hire. I'm asking now because I've found an excellent online sale of decent ski wear and I'd like to buy anything we need to buy now to save adding it to the autumn expense. Any advice?
  24. LondonMix, the 'property' is held on the 20 year lease, which is shop and residential area. That's why it's so cheap.
  25. It's only a 20 year lease. Who knows how much it'll cost to extend it.
