  1. The French Cafe serves Monmouth coffee.
  2. I've been meaning to post to say how much I'm enjoying Hummy Mummies. My seven month old also has a great time, and naps like a trooper afterwards! I've been practising my Cee Lo Green all week, much to everyone's amusement.
  3. My husband and I both work in Whitehall. He cycles from Forest Hill Road and it takes him 30 minutes but he is aged and thinks others would be quicker. He has quite a complicated route which he adapted from the TfL route over time to avoid Peckham and include hills for fitness. I love my 63, which is much quicker than the buses going via Camberwell, and change at Elephant. Alternatively the 37 to Herne Hill (or walk) and the 3 to Whitehall. Trains for us are also easy as Honor Oak to Westminster is 20 minutes or less, changing at Canada Water.
  4. I'd echo that. My daughter is getting there with the sitting but went from hopeless to not bad without me noticing. making sure her legs were in the right position really helped. I don't think you need any gadgets for what is likely to be a very quick stage.
  5. We use Napisan and sun (hmmm). We only have a couple of stained ones really, so no real problem.
  6. How can there be TMI on a discussion on nappies! We've already got stains, from our paper liner days, but lovely soft nappies so who cares? But it's comforting to know weaning isn't going to ruin all our plans.
  7. I've checked with the practice manager, buggie. The road is on their catchment map - evens only. I would be an odd... Good luck with your prospective no.2 there!
  8. Thanks. Nice to feel a bit reassured! I also know of course on the flip side that there are women registered at Forest Hill that don't get to use them if they're full, and I think my husband might kill me if we turned this house down to stay with them and then I didn't get in if and when the time comes! Truth is, I am in mourning for the perfect house which I loved to bits AND was in the catchment, but which we lost out on. So I need to put that out of my mind.
  9. We've also chopped up fleece. I have to say I'm relieved to see the comment about newly weaned poo as we're there right now and it's defeating all our resources. I was worrying that fleece just wasn't going to cut it.
  10. I'm a very satisfied patient of the lovely Oakwood midwives, after a fantastic experience with my first pregnancy and birth. We're now moving and I have fallen in love with a house literally across the road from the Forest Hill Road Practice catchment, or Outer Siberia in Oakwood terms. Does anyone have any idea how often waiting list people get picked up by Oakwood? I really feel I can't say no to the house because of such a relatively tiny issue, but on the other, my heart breaks slightly at the thought of having another baby or two without them.
  11. I second the Post Office. They did my five week old, fuss-free and only a fiver. They also guarantee acceptance.
  12. There is a doppelg?nger of our lost cat that lives on Therapia Rd and dashes across the road lots. She has an owner who is sadly aware of her bonkersness.
  13. Is the cat still around? We lost a cat matching your description in your area but it was a year ago. Still have hopes of finding her.
  14. Saffron, SD has a depressed reflex so doesn't gag when she should. So the opposite of the possible problem, but I thought it would be helpful to explain who assesses these things. She had a lengthy session with the therapist, who watched her eat and drink, and asked lots of questions. Sadly it's part of a degenerative metabolic ccondition so won't improve but it did mean she got a speedy referral from her consultant, and the speech therapist is based in a multidisciplinary team treating such conditions.
  15. My stepdaughter has a weakened gag reflex. The people who assess this sort of thing in depth are speech therapists, but your GP should get some idea of whether there's a problem with a tongue depressor. I'm sure things will be OK though.
  16. We stayed at the fantastic Hotel Giraffe, in a suite. The kids had the sofa bed in the living room. We are not particularly rich (although we only stayed three nights!). The suite was cheaper than standard rooms in some hotels. The Giraffe gets rave reviews on Trip Advisor. It does a free, high quality, breakfast, offers free coffee, lemonade and cookies all day, and most days has a free cheese and wine reception for guests. We've also stayed at the sister Library Hotel, which is far less family friendly, and found the Giraffe to be the same great service and lovely surroundings. It's also very close to Madison Square, and the amazing Shake Shack!
  17. 185 bus straight to Forest Hill station. FH/E Croydon route really is the best. Croydon platforms are manageable-far better than Clapham, for example.
  18. There are also similar screenings at the Ritzy in Brixton, on Wednesday and Friday mornings I think. Down as I Scream club on their website.
  19. It's all anecdotal, but my mother had me at 43, nine months after she married. She then had two miscarriages (I think. It could have been three.) and gave birth to my brother 28 months later, a month after her 46th birthday. Good luck! I know there are ways of measuring fertility to some degree but I'm not sure how useful those are? I'm also sure I read that lots of stats apply to women having their first child, so wouldn't apply to you.
  20. The CCTV from my mugging has been put on to the Met's website. My investigating officer is hopeful of an ID from it.
  21. Finally made it to The Rye (very small baby makes life tricky sometimes) and had glorious burgers. But I see this is a 'summer eesidency'. Anyone know the sad date for packing up? We're off on holiday for a fortnight and I think we may have made it just in time to wave goodbye.
  22. I can imagine she's a love her or hate her type! She sorted out a long running health issue I had that the other doctors I'd seen had been pretty hopeless with, so we got off to a good start.
  23. No sixth form would have them. But yes. The police were brilliant, I have to say, but there was no catching them in time however quick the response. You never know. There might be plain clothes/car stuff going on I suppose. The police reckoned mine was part of a gang because that's the most common reason for black and white boys to hang out together. (So sad to think that's true in such a mixed part of London.) But gangs often bring themselves to police attention when new activity like this kicks off.
  24. Dr Scorer is excellent. I've also had good experiences with Dr Graham. Dr Scorer by the way also is very good about breastfeeding and baby health issues. Health visitor has been dreadful but I don't want to move because the midwives are amazing and the doctors I like are good. I'm just avoiding the HV.
  25. I knew that, sorry. But no, they're obviously a pair/gang of teenagers looking for easy pickings (and you can't imagine how cross I am with myself for having my phone out, every time I look at my little girl and think of her first photos gone). I was walking right next to another woman using her phone and she thought they'd gone for me because of the pram. So they're cowardly little shits.
