  1. And another AndMove recommendation! Pavel came recommended to us and we have used him twice so far. We used him to pack the house as well as doing the move. It is a small company which means that Pavel himself is going to be supervising and doing the move. We find Pavel reliable, trustworthy and easy to communicate with. The moves were completely stress free and Pavel and his team ensure that things were running smoothly. We very highly recommend him!
  2. I would like to recommend Nauris and Ron from LatNi Building & Landscapes. They have worked for us twice and we're really pleased with what they've done. This time they did a complete make over of our garden. Paving, fence and a modern costume-build shed. We always found them very hard working, trustworthy and easy to communicate our ideas to. They have got great attention to detail and we found their quotations always very reasonable. LatNi Building & Landscapes 07478729202/07740282566
  3. Would like to add my recommendation for Steve. Very easy to deal with, punctual, tidy and good price!
  4. Just wanted to add our recommendation for Graham from usealoft. We picked up his name from this thread and a few others on EDF and decided to give him a go. Graham came to our place to cut out a brand new hatch, install a new loft ladder and board the attic (including adding a light) Very friendly guy. Upfront and competitive prices and, most importantly of all, he did an excellent job for us. Extremely pleased :-)
  5. Hi Ed forum We are doing a 4 year old birthday in a couple of weeks time and wanted to have a badge making activity. Does anyone know where we could hire or borrow a machine in the local area? cheers! sean
  6. We too would be interested in something like this. We have a very chatty, spanish speaking 3 year old and would love for him to be able to use his spanish with other people.
  7. +1 on the recommendation for little kickers in ED. My little boy (currently 3) has been going for a while and absolutely loves it.
  8. I drive through this junction all the time in the various directions and always get frustrated when turning right onto peckham rye as it always seemed the nunhead traffic was skipping the lights. Then it dawned on me that the actual problem is that the lights coming from the Nunhead direction are actually set quite far back from the junction itself. This means that people coming from that direction legally cross the white line when the lights are not red but don't reach the junction for a second or so later. Making it look like they've jumped the lights to drivers coming in the opposite direction. I reckon it's as simple as moving those lights and their white line forward a bit to stop the confusion.
  9. It's irresistible though isn't it :)) My favourite bit of the lot is Lig's disgust that this all happened in public. I mean we all know this stuff goes on, but in public? How terrible! It seems non-public misdemeanours don't matter quite as much in Lig's world. I shudder to think what goes on at casa Lig. Though I have had some PMs from people (who wish to remain anonymous) telling me that it would make Byron's eyes water ;-) Edit: oops - I see Keef beat me to it!
  10. Once again avoiding the argument with nonsensical sweeping statements. Do not feed the troll
  11. Can I suggest that since you're trying to show how reasonable you are now (and presumably not a "cyber bully") , perhaps you shouldn't be building up straw men arguments against other posters in an attempt to win the debate. Tackle the argument not the man BTW, I don't think it's particularly bad to speak to a stranger about this kind of issue as long as it's done sensitively. I can understand your disgust at seeing someone smoking whilst pregnant. But if you are truly shocked at the reaction to your original post then you need to step back and maybe ask some of your friends about boundary issues.

Hi Ann. I think it's good to have someone arguing the case for Kings here to balance up the debate. It's an emotional subject and too easy to rail against the faceless body of Kings rather than look at the facts objectively. The problem is that the whole situation seems to be mired in hearsay and we are light on facts. Initially (from the More4 news report) it seemed that Kings were terminating the contract due to an unfortunate death of a baby for which they were sued. Subsequently it was discovered that the midwives were cleared of any wrong doing in this case. So this was not the problem. Now we have this report from Kings about the cases of HIE being higher in the Albany practice. Apparently they commissioned an investigation where they picked a handful of cases and they were studied. This investigation came back showing that it was indeed the case that there were more HIE cases but with the strong caveat that it was statistically inconclusive due to the nature and number of cases selected and the lack of a proper control group. This doesn't sound like good scientific analysis that you can base a decision on. Now I know that there are other midwifery led practices in Kings, but none of them follow the Albany model of care. They are not the same thing. Closing the practice in this way reduces choice for mothers who want the Albnay model of care and this means that Kings should be answerable to the community when they decide to close it down. The current line of "We have a report that says they contributed to more HIE, but you're not allowed to see the investigation or techniques involved" doesn't really cut the mustard. If the report cannot stand scrutiny, then they should suspend the contract until a proper report that does stand up to scrutiny can be done. Probably the most interesting information I have found so far is from the NCT statement in support of the Albany found here: http://www.nctpregnancyandbabycare.com/press-office/press-releases/view/190 The NCT is concerned that the contract has been terminated suddenly ? a situation which we understand to be due to a breakdown in communication and good contract management. This poor management has lead to difficult relationships between the Trust and the Practice, and questions being raised about the care provided. NCT are obviously privy to more information than I can get hold of, but reading between the lines here I am guessing that one/some of the Albany midwives had clashed with the Kings staff. The continued breakdown meant that Kings decided they could not work with them anymore and wanted to get rid of this thorn in their side. Hence the statisitical investigation with limited data and the subsequent termination of the contract. Just to make it clear where I'm coming from, I am an 'Albany dad' and enjoyed excellent care from them with the birth of my son. This doesn't mean I will blindly support them purely due to my fantastic experience with them, but I am currently extremely unconvinced by the statements coming from Kings that this was a purely medical decision.
