  1. Yes there are a couple that leave from in front of the station. One goes around to the Dysart pub from where you can walk up to the park (65). Another takes you a bit round the houses but stops very close to the main Richmond gate (371).
  2. I was looking through a list of lambeth childminders, and I noticed that there were some of them who work at weekends. Depending on where you live, you could try finding a similar list? (Unfortunately the young lambeth website where they were listed didn't seem to have an easy way to search by postcode or day)
  3. Gina, I'm really interested in your story. Do you mean that you stopped altogether on the second birthday? How long did it take before your daughter would sleep?
  4. I went in May, also with a 22 month old. I took Fodor's New York with kids guidebook - nice and small so easy to carry around plus lots of great suggestions for days out and places to eat, plus nearby playgrounds in each area - very useful. Times square is a great location to stay as so near to walk to everything plus easy subway access. Although taxis seem so cheap compared with London and they were very popular with my toddler as he got his own seat! Just a couple of tips, this museum was great for a rainy day: http://www.cmom.org. And in Times square the toys r us had babies r us inside so good for toddler snacks. It only had big packs of nappies though but there was a nearby chemist with normal size packs of nappies in and wipes. However I couldn't find nappy sacks anywhere so they may be best to get in the airport. Oh and there are just loads of delis and wholefood outlets where you can get great takeout for dinner. Hope you have a great trip, my son still talks about it now!
  5. South London travel centre (in Myatts Fields) does this. It's the closest place I found. 2 doses needed so a couple of visits. Did a lot of research at the time I was considering this for my son. I think the basic reason it isn't offered in this country is because of our bad take up of jabs. Adults get a little boost to their immunity when they encounter a child with CP. So either you need everyone having had CP or having been vaccinated so no CP in the community, or you need lots of children still having it to give the natural booster.
  6. http://www.hotelterravina.co.uk/ Lovely small hotel with great food and wine - a bit like the hotel du vins (which are also great if you take your own baby monitor) but terra vina has monitors and they listen to them at the reception while you are eating. Plus a nice rubber duck for your baby in the bath! It's in the New Forest so easy 2 hours from Dulwich.
  7. Thanks for these replies - fingers crossed it goes this easily for us!
  8. I had the lipase issue. I found that as long as the milk had been frozen soon after pumping, my baby would take it as long as I defrosted it just before feeding using hot water. ie if I left it to defrost in the fridge it was rejected. That's because I froze a lot before I worked out I had to scald it!
  9. Yes - (at Gatwick at least) you can take it to the gate (if you have a travel system) and then it is put in the hold with the buggy. You do have to take everything apart at security to go through the machine though. Worth checking the website of the airport you are flying from though because exact arrangements will vary.
  10. My 11 month old is due to start nursery in a couple of weeks. I thought by now I would have cut down on the breastfeeds, but what with one thing and another (stomach bug, weight problem) it hasn't happened. I am doing at least 6 feeds a day, and since the stomach bug my son has been asking for even more (by pulling my top down:-$). Has anyone else been in this situation? What happened at nursery - did your little one replace all breastfeeds with bottle? I'm hoping I can keep the morning feeds going for a while - because it's the only thing that sends him back to sleep at 5am...
  11. I lived off oranges when I was pregnant, especially freshly squeezed orange juice. Was very sad when I had to stop this with a small baby (just in case citrus caused colic - it didn't work though!) My baby loves oranges now.
  12. Just a thought - I registered for childcare vouchers recently via care-4. Their site allows you to search for childminders and they do have some in the local area who provide overnight care. I think the childminders have to belong to the national childminding association to appear in this search list so maybe the NCMA can give you the contacts directly?
  13. No offence taken Molly:) I've just heard so many baby myths by now... Anyway I have done some more research and I think the sugar is just as bad from puree as from added sucrose. Looks like I'll have to try more water after meals and battle with the teeth cleaning!
  14. Probably over analysing, that seems to be the case with all baby related stuff Molly! But I am genuinely interested whether the sugar source makes a difference. Yun - thanks for that. My little one (7 moths old) will happily (maybe an exaggeration) eat savoury & sweet things as finger food, but will not eat savoury puree / sauces. I am trying to get a good amount of food down as he is nearly off the growth charts (another story) so am trying a mix of mummy and baby led feeding!
  15. I need some food advice - is anybody qualified in this area? The food standards agency website talks about yoghurts: Even products labelled 'no added sugar' might be sweetened with concentrated fruit juice, which can damage teeth. You could make your own sugar-free snacks for your baby, such as carrot sticks, pieces of peeled apple and pitta bread, or try adding pur?ed fruit to plain fromage frais or yoghurt. Now is a yoghurt with pureed fruit really better for baby teeth than yoghurts with added sugar? Rachel's organic yoghurts actually have a higher % sugar than some of those which list sugar as an ingredient. My dentist has told me before that fruit smoothies can cause tooth decay in adults - so surely pureed fruit can too? I am interested mainly as my baby is very into eating yoghurts so much so I tend to mix other food in (yum, carrot & lamb strawberry yoghurt) so I am not following the advice to give them in moderation!
  16. Yes me too, since birth of my son my thumbs have cracked open, so sore! I have now started to wear rubber gloves for all the baby gear washing but you can't wear them doing baths etc. I have found some moisturising anti bac wash liquid. I do worry that if the anti bac stuff or handcream gets into baby's mouth that might be a problem tho?
  17. If a nanny really was self-employed (seems very unlikely if working permanently for one family but if HMRC have given them that status then it is possible) then you wouldn't have to pay for either holiday or sick time.
  18. I'm interested in the idea of a nanny share for 2 one year olds. However before I go any further I'd really like to get an idea of approximate costs in this area (East Dulwich / Herne Hill / West Dulwich) so I know whether it is really an option for me. Is anybody willing to reveal what it would cost per week?
  19. It is dispiriting when you hear that all your nct mates are celebrating their 7-7 sleeping babies. I don't even want to talk about it with them as I feel embarrassed (clearly not so on here!) and actually a bit ashamed - like I'm failing. ___________________________________________________________________________________________ Snowboarder - I so agree with what you wrote above! I feel like a real "accidental parent" (sometimes I hate Baby Whisperer). However I was reassured when I got the "No-cry sleep solution" and found that Elizabeth Pantley herself had 2 babies who slept through very early and 2 babies who woke up every 1/2 hours. She had treated them exactly the same - so it does sound like something that somes from the baby not from the parent...
  20. I love my bee! Very happy with it - so light and easy to us in shops, on the bus etc - and pounding the streets of Dulwich! I have slightly small 6 month old and have used the cocoon the whole time (yes even in summer although I wish I'd known there were people who could make a lightweight version) - still seems to be room left. However I agree with bea that blankets etc would be just as good, the seat is comfy enough. No serious drawbacks that I can think of!
