Pigeon was still hiding under the Acanthus, but when I got near it flew into the pear tree and now it's sitting there very still 😭

It came back to feed, but now it's hiding under a large Acanthus mollis I have in the garden. Unfortunately I can't take it to a vet even if I could catch it, as I'm shielding, but thanks if it is still in the garden later I will phone them for advice.

That wood pigeon (or a different one) is now asleep on the ground at the back of my garden, in full view and in easy reach of cats It must be ill, surely? 😭

"Posted by rupert james Today, 04:41PM Can anybody remember when you could go to Dulwich Park when there were no problems? Seems to have changed when money invaded the area." But what also "seems to have changed when money invaded the area" was that the fights every Saturday night in what is now The Actress and was then The Uplands Tavern stopped happening ..... Swings and roundabouts .......

I got a Christmas card today, posted a week before Christmas. And a letter dated 20 December giving me "important advice" about "extra precautionary shielding measures" because of Tier 4. Oh, well done, Royal Mail, that's arrived just as we are probably about to go into Tier 5 ...... I still haven't received my "urgent" letter, though, GRRRRRR. What I wonder is how all these letters are actually stored in the delivery office. Because surely the obvious thing to do would be to sort them into streets as they come in, or at least to take some time to sort the piles out now into streets, but that can't be happening, otherwise they wouldn't be being delivered in tiny dribs and drabs?

No I don't know! The only reason I posted that link was because it had contact details and I thought those people may know the situation if somebody wanted to contact them. But from more recent posts on here, it seems that they don't

Thunderblue600, I don't think you should be putting these people's names on here without their knowledge? Unlike this forum, they are their real life names Can't you just post the content of the posts without any identifying features? In some cases young people are also mentioned who could be identified from their parents' names. -

I have posted contact details of where you are more likely to be able to find out more directly on the Cox's Walk thread. ETA: And yes, Cox's Walk is opposite the derelict pub (ex Grove, ex Harvester) which now homes a skate park. The Plough is opposite Dulwich Library. -
There are a lot of assumptions being made on this thread! If you are concerned I suggest you phone or email to find out what the actual true situation is. If you don't want to look at the link I gave above, here are the contact details given there: Contact us Contact number: 020 3897 6151 Contact email: [email protected] There is also a relevant Facebook page, The Great North Wood, which has some other contact details: https://www.facebook.com/TheGreatNorthWood/ There is a different phone number, and you can also send a message via Facebook.

There is a contact number and email address at the bottom of this website: https://www.wildlondon.org.uk/nature-reserves/sydenham-hill-wood-and-coxs-walk I don't think people should be taking matters into their own hands. There is a very dedicated team associated with the woods. I recently "went" to a Zoom talk by one of them about the history of the woods.

Do pigeons sleep during the day? Around midday today there was a wood pigeon apparently asleep on a branch of a pear tree in the garden which backs on to mine. Later on it woke up, moved about a bit, then next time I looked it had disappeared. Then it (I presume the same one) appeared again, asleep on a different branch of the same tree. Is this normal, or could the pigeon be ill?

I got two warnings, dated a week apart but received on the same day, for driving down Burbage Road. I was very relieved on opening the second one, which I assumed was going to be a fine.

Is it only this entrance to the woods which is locked?

I don't disagree with your main point, but "the most polluted road in all of London"? Even if it was (do you have evidence?) there is a lot less traffic about at the moment, for obvious reasons. And surely people have to walk along the main road in order to get to or from the bottom of Cox's Walk anyway?

It's surely only unsaleable to anybody who needs to come into the ULEZ zone frequently?

I don't really understand all this, but then I haven't been keeping track of Royal Mail since privatisation. What happened to Parcel Force? Many moons ago the Post Office split into Counters (the physical Post Offices on our high streets), Royal Mail (letters) and Parcel Force (parcels). If memory serves, ParcelForce had dedicated automated centres for dealing with the parcels, certainly on the outgoing side. Have parcels and letters been combined again, then? Surely they can't all be being processed together in the same places?? A long time ago I worked for the Post Office - and then Royal Mail after the split - but not on the operational side (thank God!) ETA: I just reread the post (hoho) above and it seems that Parcel Force still exists, so how does it interact with Royal Mail, if at all?

Thanks Sephiroth, I completely appreciate the point you are making. The bizarre thing (considering I run music gigs, or did pre-Covid) is that I very rarely listen to music at home these days. However that's partly because I have never got round to properly sorting out the zillions of albums I transferred to the hard drive of the WiFi 🤣 However already I can see that I am likely to come across other stuff I like via Amazon. But I don't think I'm likely to listen to music in other parts of the house (but who can tell ... ) because I'm mainly there when I'm either sleeping or doing something I have to concentrate on, and sadly unlike when I was doing my homework I can no longer concentrate on anything else with music playing in the background!
-
Thanks all, and yes ed_pete you are quite right. I think I am probably going to stick to playing "my" music in the living room and playing "Amazon's" music in the kitchen .... JohnL, I have found out what sounds sloths make, and also that the only swear word Alexa seems to know is "knickers". (Childish I know, but highly entertaining :)) )

I have a non-compliant car, old but regularly serviced and always passes its MOT. I am hoping to sell it (for not very much) to somebody who doesn't need to visit the ULEZ, or at least not often. At present my intention is to get another car, because I need a car to ferry bulky and heavy stuff to and from my allotment, and to visit family (a lot more convenient than public transport, because of where they are situated). And to go to festivals etc. when having to transport a tent, bedding, etc etc. Hiring a car is not economical if it's sitting outside somebody's house or in a field for several days. If there was a scheme where I could drop a hired car off at my destination, and then hire another one to return home, I might consider it for stays of several days. But I don't know of such a scheme. The stuff I take to and from my allotment tends to make a mess of the car, so I'm not sure that a car sharing scheme would be suitable for that. I'm also interested to hear others' views. I'm also pissed off because so far the Covid situation has made it quite difficult to do anything about this, and so far as I know the ULEZ introduction date isn't being extended.
