Actually Louisa, Khan's - just one of the many "old" businesses on the lane - has been mentioned many times on here. Positively. And only recently KidKruger recommended a fabric stall in the covered market. But don't let the facts get in the way of your prejudices :))

It took a while to find the right place for the router, but it's all fine now.

Why can you not get a longer wire for the router? I recently had the same problem. Moving the router just a very short distance solved it.

Small White Elephant was lovely. Greatly missed :(

A very expensive type of compost bin that heats to a high temperature and therefore you can compost things youy wouldn't be able to in the usual kind.

DulwichFox Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Do you walk around (On you own) late at night in > Peckham ?? Do You ? I have done in the past, and I would do it again. When I'm walking alone at night anywhere in London (or indeed, anywhere) I would be aware of what was going on around me. > Have you been Mugged and knocked unconscious. ? > Have you ? No. What's that got to do with it? My sister was mugged and her hand slashed with a knife. About forty years ago. In broad daylight. On a crowded street in Central London, if memory serves. These things can happen anywhere. > I supposed anyone out and about 'Pissed up' is > going to be totally oblivious to any danger. If you are referring to me, I don't walk around alone "pissed up" (what a very strange expression). ETA: Belated sympathy to JohnL, and glad you are OK.

Have you actually been to Peckham in the last few years, Dulwich Fox? ETA: Oh, I see you say above that you go there frequently. Do you walk about with your eyes closed???

But then not so long ago you posted on here saying you would not walk anywhere near the Gowlett at night. Get a grip!

shoshntosh Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > will smoking (tobacco cigarettes) in public ever > be outlawed? > I bloody wish it would. You sit outside a bar because of the lovely weather, only to have to go inside again because of smoke blowing in your face. Smokers should be made to all sit together in enclosures, so they can breathe in their own and others' smoke to their heart's content. Or rather, their heart's discontent. I'm an ex-smoker, btw. We are the worst :))

Also, I understood that you had to declare any history of subsidence when you sell your house, regardless of who has paid to fix it. Or are you suggesting lying to your purchasers and their solicitors? Also, depending on the circumstances, it is not just underpinning. In my case it involved complete taking down and rebuilding of the bay, installing new stone pillars and window sill made by a stone mason, plus finally replastering and redecoration of the exterior and living room. Plus three new windows.

:)) :)) :)) Surma was better than many of the others, though :( Pity it was Surma which closed.

If the cracks are really huge, you need to get them looked at. You probably need to get them looked at anyway. I have had a nightmare year with subsidence to my bay. It was so bad they didn't even bother monitoring it. Currently have a case with the Financial Ombudsman. Too tedious to relate here. It was over a year from the time I made the insurance claim to the time the building eventually finished. I was living in my kitchen for six months. But no way could I have afforded to pay for all the remedial work myself. Good luck!

Missing post since sorting office moved to peckham
Sue replied to nina_maniana's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Well I take it back. The item just arrived. The stupid sender posted it second class on Friday instead of first class as promised on Thursday. So on this occasion, not Royal Mail's fault. Profuse apologies, Royal Mail :) -

I thought deliveries had greatly improved, but a time critical letter which was sent to me First Class last Thursday has still not arrived, GRRRRRRRR. I'm wondering if it has been misdelivered to somebody else's house and they are away. Anybody else still having problems?? -
They are all back! Franklins was virtually empty on Saturday. Passing it on the bus this evening it appeared to be rammed! And the garden is no longer quiet :( Oh well, it was lovely while it lasted :)

Have you considered mediation, Stella? I think the council offer a service.I think it's free. But both parties (sorry, unfortunate term) have to agree to participate.
