  2. I'm thinking muslin with hessian roller blinds. Textural contrast. But then I'm not completely sober :))
  3. Petunias are supposed to flower all summer. That's what they do :) (Replying to Bob Buzzard, in case that wasn't clear!)
  4. What did you have there before, Nandalf? I'm getting quite confused by all the options! I'm a leave the gate open kind of person, so I don't want my house to look unwelcoming from the outside, which I think is what is putting me off plantation blinds, but I can see they would be a good option from the inside. But I'm finding it hard to imagine them in my room!
  5. I shall come and investigate, KK :)
  6. The weather is all messed up, isn't it? Plants have been flowering at weird times for years now :(

And probably this isn't the first time he has done it (and won't be the last), and other people may be doing it too. Therefore the council need to know about it. In my opinion.
  8. I noticed tonight that all the troughs have disappeared from outside the Picturehouse. I sincerely hope that they are just being replanted. Or does the cinema take them in at night in case they are stolen? Never noticed them gone before :(

  11. Good idea, KK, thanks. Do you have any idea of the approximate price for making up a muslin curtain? snoopy 17, thanks for suggestions but I associate Venetian blinds with offices! And I don't want privacy film, because then I can't see out. I could have had the window glass made like that, but I didn't want it.
  12. I don't know the cat, but thank you for caring enough to post this.
  13. I reckon the driver was asleep in the back..
  14. Thanks Cella. I will have a rethink!
  15. I'm wondering what to do with my front bay and bedroom windows - as in, what to cover them with. I want something that doesn't cut out too much light, but also doesn't let people peer in. But on the other hand, lets me see out :) I had translucent blinds before, from Ikea, but they got very dirty (I'm not sure if they were cleanable, but if so I didn't :)) ) I don't like plantation blinds as I think they make the house look like a prison from the outside, however I wonder if they would be a practical option. Can you see out of them from the inside? Do they cut out much light? I've discounted curtains on the grounds that there isn't enough space between the window and the wall to pull them back without covering up some of the window, and anyway you can't have curtains drawn all the time. Vaguely wondering about some kind of light muslin, or net or lace curtains. I once had cream Liberty lace panels, but somebody bleached them thinking they were white and discoloured, and they fall apart :( I would probably want white, as the floor and walls are white. Does anybody have any ideas? Anything you have done and regretted it? Also, can anybody recommend a local person who you have used yourself to advise and fit them (whatever they are)?

    Thanks both!
  18. Take its reg number and description and report it to the council? Why would somebody leave a van with its engine running?
  19. :)) :)) :))
  20. My favourite Vermeer will never seem the same again :( :)) :)) :))
  21. There have been several plant/pot thefts in Nunhead recently. Including from the front of a house on Nunhead Green, in broad daylight. I had all my window boxes stolen one afternoon a few years back. It was just before Mother's Day. The police said the thieves had been going round the area in a van taking plants. Like VR_SE22 I heard a sort of scraping noise at the front, and thought nothing of it. I had a lodger at the time, and he came back from work and asked where the window boxes were :(

Ulverscroft Road. Off North Cross Road.

  24. I have reported it. There was a section under "crime" for "threats, verbal abuse or assault." Thankfully it wasn't assault.
  25. Thanks!
