    Lunch

The conservatory (?) room at the back of Tart on Lordship Lane is lovely, and will be even more so when the trees outside have come into leaf! It's light, with lots of plants about. Their food is yummy too, plus they have a deal on two glasses of Prosecco :) And it's usually pretty quiet on a Saturday lunchtime. ETA: Also very reasonably priced. ETA: Otherwise, we find the front bar part of Franklins relaxing on Saturday lunchtimes, but you may not, depending on how many people are in there. You can have a choice from the main menu (more expensive), the brunch menu (less expensive and reasonably priced) or the bar menu (some overlap with the brunch menu). Very yummy Welsh Rarebit. Eggy bread with maple syrup and very very nice bacon. Other yummy things. And a great pint of Guinness. ETA: And the music is quietish in both places and certainly doesn't interfere with conversation.

Oh yeh, I've still got a list somewhere :))
  4. exdulwicher, no, same old phone, I've only just finished paying for it (interest-free credit, obv :)) ) New sim/new contract I can't copy texts and phone records to a sim card, can I? I will deffo try looking for an app. Not worried about the photos, they are saved on the phone/on the cloud somewhere. I don't really care about people seeing my messages, there's nothing incriminating :)) I once had a mobile that when I got a new one, I just had to hold the new one over the old one and it copied everything from it. Amazing. When I were young we didn't even have a phone :))

    Moths again

wolis, yes! The electrical tennis racquet is brilliant! Very satisfying, I agree. I got one last year from the pound shop to see if it worked. It did. Sadly when I went back to get one for each room, they were all sold out. However, it only works if the (male) moth is actually flying around so you can zap it. And not much use for the female moths because you can't actually get at them with the racquet (unless you have some special technique?!) KidKruger, I thought my moths had gone. I got rid of all my carpets too, as you know. Sadly I have a pile of rugs and hangings because of the work being done on the house, so need to make sure they have lots of moth paper things in between them :(

Most people know this. However in order to prevent the damage caused by the larvae, it is obviously necessary to control the adults - the females who lay the eggs which become the larvae, and the males who fertilise the females. ETA: The females do not "jump around", in my experience. They crawl very quickly on a surface, and can also hide in crevices and under furniture extremely quickly.

    Moths again

Thanks. I bought that a year or so ago, but the instructions make it impossible to use. I can't remember why now but it's something like you have to go back into the room to do something after you have sprayed it? I meant to phone them, but never got round to it. I don't have a huge problem now as long as I keep on top of replacing the papers and traps on time. I used to use spray canisters but I stopped when a parrot was staying with me for a year and now I don't feel I want to add to my current health problems by breathing in chemicals :( Thanks re inbox, I keep deleting stuff but it keeps filling up :(
  8. I'm changing from BT (crap customer service) to iD (better deal, unless Carphone Warehouse goes bust) and my number is porting over on Wednesday. I vaguely remember going through all this before, many times, but I can't remember what I did. It's an Android phone. 1. I presume my contacts are saved via gmail or whatever, but how do I get them onto the new Sim card, or don't I need to? 2. Is there any way I can save texts, or do I have to go through all the threads and make a note of anything I may need to know the date/contents of in the future? 3. Is there any way I can save my record of phone calls? (this may be important as I'm presently in the throes of a formal complaint to my insurance company). Or should I just take a load of screenshots of the call record? Would I be better taking my mobile into a Carphone Warehouse shop and letting them do it? I have very bad memories of somebody in "customer services" once talking me through it over the phone, and suddenly first my mobile was filled up with every contact who had ever sent me an email, except it wasn't because it wouldn't hold them all, and then he lost all the contacts (finally finding them again, to both our relief). I am quite ill and very stressed out at the moment (pause for sympathy) and would like as far as possible a stress-free network changeover :) I would be extremely grateful for any help, preferably in tech-free words of one syllable :)

    Moths again

They're back, aren't they. Despite the zillions of pounds I spend on traps and papers, still they arrive to taunt me at around this time every year. Anybody else spotted them over the last couple of days?

  11. Doesn't the package have their address on?
  12. Well, I was fully expecting my SIM card to go AWOL, but to my great surprise it arrived today having been posted first class yesterday. So, credit where it's due, Royal Mail managed to deliver one item on time to the correct address :)

There should be something on the post box > telling you if the day's collection has been made > and when the next collection is. I don't think there is anything on the box outside the Lordship Lane post office. There was once a notice saying when the last collections were on weekdays and Saturdays, and now there isn't.

There are previous threads on here about Saucy if you do a search. Saucy is a new restaurant on Lordship Lane, on the corner where Curry Cabin used to be, which has not yet opened. I would have thought the contents of this thread were fairly self-explanatory, though.

Admin, are you able to change the title yourself if the OP doesn't or won't? And move it to a more appropriate section of the forum?
  16. "A wall of unqualified people who can't help"? Would you care to expand on that, please? Also, I have recently unfortunately had to go to A&E four times, and after triage they prioritise patients according to need. If you have to wait a long time it is because there are more urgent cases. If you don't like the long waiting times, blame the government for underfunding the NHS. ETA: I have also had to call 111 several times recently, and I absolutely can't fault the service. ETA: I think you should change the totally misleading subject of this thread. ETA: And if somebody is making money out of running a surgery, then I suggest you blame the system which allows them to do that. You cannot blame somebody for taking advantage of it, surely. I blame the Tories, but then I would.

I can't begin to imagine how you must have felt. ETA: I wonder if they have changed their systems, as I have an urgent hospital appointment next week and have had two separate phone calls reminding me about it, one automated and from an actual person. I now wonder whether this is in case people haven't received a letter from the hospital and whether this is now a common occurrence.
  20. It's got to the point where I just expect things not to arrive.

  23. In the last few weeks I have received several items of mail for addresses with the same house number as mine but completely different roads (including two cafes, named as part of the address. Surely it should be obvious to anybody that my house is not a cafe). I have also got mail for other house numbers in my own road, one of which was a bank statement which I opened by mistake (I resisted the temptation to look at it :))) Yesterday I got a catalogue for somebody with the same house number but different roads. When the post came today, I gave it to the postie. His response "I wasn't working yesterday." Then I looked at today's post. It included a letter clearly marked for the house next door. So I called him back and gave that back to him as well. His response "Well it's only for next door" (meaning, you could have put that through their letter box yourself, couldn't you?) Er, yes I could, but I'm bloody sick of delivering other people's post. Where do they get these people from? What really worries me is where my own mail is going. Apart from things I know have definitely gone missing, It's the things I don't know about :(
