If you have a problem then contact them if you havent then dont." xxxxxxx It's a bit harsh (and came across as quite rude) to criticise me for suggesting that if some people had done a botch job on your house then they might have done a botch job on other houses in the same road!! ETA: Poor work on gas connections can have lethal consequences.

  3. Oh dear. Have the other houses been checked to make sure the job was done properly there?

If so, I completely agree - don't usually eat sausage rolls but had one of hers on Saturday and it was delicious :)

  6. I think there have been threads on this subject before, but I can't find one, so apologies for starting a new one. Has anybody else had problems with their rubbish not being collected? I live in Ulverscroft Road. My green bin was not emptied last Tuesday (20th, not yesterday). I reported it to the council on Wednesday (after an extraordinarily long wait for somebody to answer my phone call), who told me it would be emptied within three working days. As unfortunately there was both a weekend and a Bank Holiday, I had to wait till yesterday - when it was still not emptied. On phoning the council again, I was asked for my reference number - and I hadn't been given one. Consequently, it appears that nothing was done about my call, and I have to wait yet another three working days. I have an overflowing bin, as I have been having a clear out and much of it is not recyclable. I have nowhere to put any further rubbish for another three days. Ironically, I didn't initially report it online as I thought it would more likely to be dealt with quickly if I phoned. Just wondering if there is some system failure at the council, or if I was just unlucky both in not getting the bin emptied in the first place, and then not getting it emptied after I reported it. Whatever, make sure you ask for a reference number if you aren't given one!!!

They might perceive it as fairly minor crime in the great scheme of things, but surely if there's a pattern they would want to keep an eye out for the culprits? If people think they can get away with thieving, then they will continue (and may go on to bigger things :( ) I think it would be a terrible shame if everybody stopped having plants at the front of their houses. One of my great pleasures is watching the seasonal changes in people's front gardens as I walk down the street. Otherwise we'd have a neighbourhood just full of those (expletive deleted) bright blue bins :( :( :(

  9. Pickle Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > (It works well as a naughty behaviour deterrent > too...) xxxxxxx OOOERR maybe I'll keep out of this part of the forum in future, kitchen discussions or not, I'm having nightmares now :)
  10. The Ivy House (community pub in Nunhead) has gluten-free pasta on its new Spring/Summer menu. http://www.ivyhousenunhead.com/docs/menu.pdf The spicy chorizo pasta is delicious :) ETA: It doesn't any more (30 May) :(
  11. Many moons ago I had to dig up all the (small) shrubs I had in my front garden and resort to having plants in pots because my insurance company claimed that the shrubs had contributed to differential movement of the bay/rest of the house, so be careful if you are planting anything in the ground near to the house :(

Ladygooner Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Looks like car wash may reopen soon - new signage > up Dulwich Blue Car wash and wash area has been > newly concredted xxxxxx Is this the same people, does anybody know? My car is in dire need of a wash - I'm not that fussy, but it hasn't been washed since the Dust Incident :))
  13. Very very sorry to hear this. Sadly, if you are able to replace it, you may need to consider chaining the pot down in some way, or otherwise find a way of making it very hard to steal. Some time back there was a spate of window box theft in ED. The police said that the thieves had gone round the neighbourhood with a van. It was just before Mother's Day. My three were taken in broad daylight :( It's hard to believe that people would stoop so low as to take somebody's plants.

  16. I cannot believe this thread is hidden away in the family section - where I have never previously visited as my daughter is grown up!! I am on the verge of getting a new kitchen and this is very helpful. At least I didn't find it AFTER I'd finished the kitchen!
  17. I'm in Ulverscroft Road too. As soon as I saw the badge saying ADT I told them I wasn't interested. The guy said "Not interested in what?" I said "ADT". He didn't try to keep me talking, he just walked off.
  18. There's a tiny narrow little house in Herne Hill, isn't there, on the opposite side of the road from the Half Moon? Or is that just a shop? Or have I imagined it altogether?!

I thought Ulverscroft Road had already been earmarked for a cycle hangar. I have reserved a space via cyclehoop. I just wondered when it was going to be installed. Presumably Southwark Council already recognise the need, as I thought they had approved it for this road?
  20. StraferJack Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > When they posted about the sushi I recall plenty > of scepticism - looks like that scepticism was > well founded xxxxxxx I vaguely recall having some kind of cheese roll or something in there. Must have been the evening Dan Maitland was singing soon after they opened, I think. The food wasn't exactly memorable, anyway - certainly sushi wasn't available!
  21. Why is this thread not in the lounge? Most of it has nothing to do with the defaced poster.
