  1. If you've only just bought it and it turns out to have vine weevil, then you should take it back. But I'd doubt it very much. Where particular types of plants are known to be susceptible to vine weevil, nurseries use chemicals in the compost to prevent them (which aren't allowed to be on general sale).

  3. Sayroo, I'm in exactly the same position, interested to hear about Curry's, though I went to a branch in Oxford and the range of appliances on show was pathetic. I too went up to John Lewis a few weeks back and was very disappointed at the small selection. I don't necessarily want cheap, but I'm picky about design, and I think even some of the supposedly top end brands look so hideous I couldn't bear to live with them in my kitchen :( I think why there are so few showrooms now is (grammar), people go to look at things in the flesh but then order them off the internet where they can get the cheapest deal. That's why Comet folded, isn't it?
  4. pinecone Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > xxx's not required -- can see the > quote symbols xxxxxxx Thanks so much for your very intelligent contribution to this thread. I will continue to post in whatever format I like :)) Meanwhile, do feel free to continue to be patronising :))

  6. It's round the corner from me and I've just been to have a gawp. The road is closed off. Two fire engines and a load of firefighters are still there. The occupants were in at the time, but nobody was hurt, thank goodness. Pic attached.
  7. This is terrible. Bad enough anyway, but how brazen, to do it in broad daylight when the homeowner or their neighbours could come back at any minute, or passers by could think something must be wrong. I always thought that window locks would be a deterrent at least, but evidently not :(
  8. Yes called me by name, and has phoned again today and left another message. It has belatedly occurred to me that she could have got my details when in another incarnation many years ago I used to sell Bioflow magnotherapy products as a sideline. But the company went weird after being taken over, and I stopped doing it. Oh well. Just think it's a bit odd she would mention only Lordship Lane Surgery in the message, since you would naturally assume it was something to do with a medical issue, or at least I would.
  9. There's no way I have my personal phone number on anything connected with the Goose!! ETA: And it would seem a rather untargeted method of advertising!! ETA: Do they pay the surgery to have these businesses promoted on appointment cards? Has the NHS really sunk so low? Do they vet the businesses they are promoting? Does Lordship Lane Surgery know they are phoning round locally? I was very confused because as it happens I have a GP appointment tomorrow, and I initially thought it was something to do with that, until I realised they were talking about Lordship Lane surgery.
  10. I have just had a voicemail on my landline (I don't answer it any more unless I'm expecting a call, due to the amount of spam - and yes I'm registered with TPS) from somebody called Samantha. She said it was "nothing urgent but please call back in relation to the Lordship Lane Surgery". As it's unusual for spam callers to leave a message, I googled the number she left, which was 01257 226 026 and evidently belongs to a business called Leisure Medical which sells advertising space on cards left in surgeries. I'm not a patient at Lordship Lane Surgery, and never have been, so where she got my number from (and what she thought I'd be advertising) I have no idea. Has anybody else had one of these calls? Obviously I shan't be phoning back, even though she left the number very clearly three times :)) ETA: Have just found their website, via a thread on Facebook which came up when I googled them: http://www.leisuremedical.co.uk/index.html

  12. I'm finding it more disturbing that neither of you seems to have done anything about it other than posting on here, particularly if there is also a distressed child involved, as was suggested on the other thread. Or did you take one of the courses of action suggested on the other thread with no result? I don't mean to be rude, but why should you leave it to somebody else to do something about it? Suppose they are all also leaving it to somebody else? ETA: How can the police "intervene" if nobody has reported it to them? ETA: We are a community. That means looking out for each other, doesn't it? Including small children who can't look out for themselves.

  14. Oh OK thanks, not sure why it needed three of them then!
  15. There were three young women with clipboards going along Ulverscroft Road (and I presume other roads) today ringing on doors. I was genuinely busy and didn't have time to see what they wanted, but assumed they were selling something, however now I'm slightly worried in case it might have been something important which I've missed :) Does anybody know what they wanted?

  17. My post was removed by admin when I suggested the same thing earlier, on the grounds that I was being unfriendly to a first time poster :)) ETA: Oh, it seems to have been reinstated :)
  18. That's amazing - but there only seems to be one available so better be quick if you want it :)
  19. Strange first post. Why don't you just ask them if they're closing, instead of referring to something a "little bird" told you?
  20. If there was an ambulance there as well that doesn't sound too good :( Well done wmac for going to see what was going on rather than just ignoring a cry for help.

AmiRobertson Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Regarding looking for a gardener called Richard!! > It's an emergency they have deadlocked a door to a > house I need to get into to feed the owners snake > and give it water!! xxxxxxx If you can't track down the gardener, can you not ask a locksmith for a duplicate key? The one which used to be in Lordship Lane has moved to Melbourne Grove (I think). But surely the house should be deadlocked anyway for security when it is empty?
  23. Yes it's a frog. That's why I edited my post above to say it's a frog :) Sadly I gave it a fright today when I went to say hello. Maybe it was my bright orange tee shirt :( Anyway, it leaped off its perch and disappeared into the depths of the tub :(
  24. Dopamine1979 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I'm not sure if it's a frog or toad but I do > reckon your bathtub needs a good cleaning. > > :) xxxxxx It certainly does, but even I would draw the line at keeping taddies and a frog in it :))
  25. Anyone know if this is a frog or a toad? He (or she) suddenly appeared in my tub today, and I don't want to pick him up in case I frighten him. Or possibly one of my toadpoles has eaten all the rest of them and has suddenly become very large ..... :)) ETA: Apparently it's a frog ....
