Your only option apart from burning or choking to death. I know what I'd do .....

ETA: Sadly they won't (or wouldn't) let anything be booked on a Friday night, for which Bingo is sacrosanct (not sure if that's grammatical, but you know what I mean ....)

Are you as unhappy a person as your posts make you sound?

What a load of b******s.

  8. Whilst completely agreeing that leaving keys in the lock is not sensible burglar-wise, there is a potential issue with getting out of the house in case of a fire (as Lane Lover says). I know this is a highly unlikely situation, but it is one my brother was in some years ago. He was staying at a friend's house overnight, she had locked the front door and put the keys somewhere, there was a fire and he couldn't get out. Luckily they were able to get onto an outside balcony and call for help and a neighbour called the fire brigade. So make sure you put the keys somewhere easily accessible by you, possibly in the dark/smoke, and that everybody in the house knows where they are :(

So DO ants have funerals? I've just wasted (another) five minutes of my life googling it, but hey it was worth it: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20120509064633AAeW30w

Let's hope they actually get it sorted out after the meeting. I am going to try to go, though I have not (yet) been so badly affected by the problems as other people.

Have seen a young fox lying on the pavement outside Foxy's home at night! We met Foxy whilst walking home from the fireworks and the fox did appear to be Waiting for him. I have mixed feelings. Love them as creatures, love that they are living in the city, curse them when they dig huge holes in my garden and keep me awake screaming. On balance I am glad they are around though :)

Xxxxx As I have said, I am not continuing this discussion here. If you want to go down this road, which has nothing to do with the OP which in any case has been deleted by the poster, then start a thread in the lounge. Then you can argue about definitions all you like :)
  14. Something has been digging in my pots and windowboxes and uprooting plants. I thought it was after bulbs, but some bulbs have been left lying on the surface. Fox? Cat? Squirrel? They were daffodil bulbs and in my experience squirrels go for crocuses. Any ideas? I've belatedly protected them with a Heath Robinson contraption of canes and string :))

Well, kind of, as by > definition they are not British. Ergo, they are a > different nationality and therefore covered by the > Race Relations Act, which is why saying nasty > things about the French or the Irish is, indeed, > racist. Xxxxxx The Race Relations Act covers discrimination on the grounds of various things including both race AND nationality. Race is not the same as nationality. And since the posts leading up to mine have now been deleted, I have no intention of continuing any discussion out of the context of those posts. If I think somebody is making racist comments I will say so outright, as I have on this forum in the past. If I had thought the OP was racist I would have said so. I didn't. I am not posting any more on this thread. As far as I am concerned I have made my views quite clear so if anyone claims not to understand them, that's too bad.
  17. There are quite often reports on the forum of similar groups of people selling rubbish tea towels etc from door to door in ED at vastly inflated prices, and claiming to come from some (bogus) charity or other.

Have you actually bothered to read my post where I explained my objections to the OP's describing the person who scratched her car as an asylum seeker? It's nothing to do with race - except perhaps in your mind, as perhaps you imagine that all asylum seekers must be a different race to you? Jesus Christ. Do feel free to continue to deliberately misinterpret what I say. It keeps Jeremy amused, anyway :))

Mick Mac Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Personally Sue I think you should apologise for > saying the OP was racist. xxxxxx Eh? Where did I say the OP was racist? Asylum seekers may be of any race, surely? Of course I am not going to apologise for something I did not say!! "asylum seeker noun noun: asylum seeker; plural noun: asylum seekers 1. a person who has left their home country as a political refugee and is seeking asylum in another." I objected to her stating that the person who apparently scratched her car was an asylum seeker, thus reinforcing people's ideas that asylum seekers are criminals. I wondered why it was necessary to include that fact - surely it would have been enough merely to complain that her car had been scratched, which most people would have sympathised with anyway. At least she wasn't making an assumption in this case, but nevertheless, many people in this country seem determined enough already to exclude from it anybody needing help, without fanning the flames. And so near Christmas, too. No room in the inn and all that :( And no, I'm not a Christian. ETA: But I suspect that many of the people who would like to shut out all asylum seekers from this country call themselves Christians :( And it's an absolute nonsense to say that describing a criminal's gender etc is the same as describing them as an asylum seeker. The implications are completely different in a climate where people/press/politicians with an agenda are whipping up feeling against asylum seekers. And it's not even as if the description was for use in identifying or catching somebody who had committed a crime - the person was long caught.
  20. I know the incident itself isn't funny, but this headline (from the Huffington Post) made me laugh: "Iceland's Police Kill Man For The First Time, Ever" Are they expecting to kill him for the second time at some point?
  21. enjoy Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > How can you, James Barber, name and shame somebody > in public for having a house extension? xxxxxxxx The information re the person's name and full address was already in the public domain. Anybody can have access to it quite easily. And this issue is not about "having a house extension". It's about considerable inconvenience being caused to neighbours and other users of a quite narrow backstreet by somebody wanting to build a basement swimming pool and - apparently - cinema (!!!!) in a relatively small space with - apparently - restricted access. I think people round here should be over the moon to have such a proactive councillor who looks out for the community's best interests, not be constantly slagging him off at every opportunity, often getting their facts wrong. Many councillors attend a few meetings a year and - er - that's it.

Fair enough. However, if you knew who it was and it had been a sober non asylum seeker, would you have thought to have mentioned that in your post? I am not the "ED forum PC police". This has nothing to do with political correctness. If you would have described whoever it was, then fine. However you seemed to think that the fact that it was an asylum seeker was sufficiently significant to mention, even though the crime was a year ago.

ETA: I can't think such statements can be doing your "French fashion consultant" business (or whatever it is) any favours, except amongst the more right wing readers of the forum, as it's certainly put me off ever wishing to find out any more about it.
  25. OMG I got my first Christmas card through the post last week - in NOVEMBER! :( Just received this email: Did you realise that more stamps will be used over the Christmas period than the rest of the year. All correspondence (membership renewal, monetary donations etc) should be sent to our headquarters.
