  1. What would help is to remove/replace those red and white bollards on the pavements, I think that they were put in because drivers got round the planters by driving on the pavements, something a little less ugly would be welcome
  2. so am I correct in that we might as well throw all kitchen waste into the large brown bin? sorry to pursue this, but I still do not quite understand
  3. In my road the contents of the small brown bin are thrown by the men into the large brown bin. I asked about this and they told me that there are not yet the means to deal with the kitchen waste separately, is this incorrect?
  4. Those very ugly red and white bollards mentioned by ab29 were put in to the traffic crossing in the village because the car drivers used the pavement to get round the planters. Perhaps, if we have reluctantly to accept that the barriers to traffic are here to stay, the money held by One Dulwich could be used to make the area more attractive by replacing the bollards, if they are still necessary [the new traffic lights might have solved this problem] by putting in more planters and paying for the old ones to be restored with plants. Hopefully, like me, others are accepting the situation and would welcome the area being made less unsightly.
  5. In what way is Gails dreadful?, rarely go there myself as it usually is too crowded, but there are enough other options, also there is now a convenience store and a new terrific cheese and goodie shop, as well as the book shop,a butchers, a good gift shop and the stationary/toy stationary shop. It seems to me that the Estate is managing things well.
  6. Thanks, very helpful, I presumed that it was something like that, they certainly had a good response.
  7. Does anyone know what was going on today at lunch-time in Dulwich Village, loads of small children with bicycles, cannot find anything about it on line.
  8. Sadly not just Sunday cyclists, it was today that I was nearly knocked down by a bicycle! perhaps cyclists should be required to dismount, or at least stop for a moment when they get to the village, this would also discourage motor bikes which also occasionally go through the space. I am not sure that it is a class thing, anyone can behave badly; the original planters had a very pretty effect on the space, then car drivers started getting through by going on the pavement, so those very ugly red and white bollards were added. Now we are stuck with an ugly mess in the center of the village with no gain to anyone except perhaps passing bicycles. As someone who is too old and disabled to cycle I find this a bit hard to tolerate.
  9. I live in the area now isolated by the closure of the crossing in the village. I have lived here for many years and am not rich or smart, but old, and I am no longer able to get anywhere including Kings and my doctors surgery in my car during the forbidden hours Added to this, crossing the new square from Court lane towards the Post Office as I did today on foot is a hazard, as bicycles sweep down Calton Avenue and through the new square with no concern for anyone crossing the road. The space seems to be regarded as road for cyclists which means that it is not a safe space for pedestrians. This has happened to me twice recently. The new square is not safe for the old or the young to cross, I have not noticed anyone else mention this. It seems to me to be the worst of all worlds, pleasing few and distressing many who can find no-one to listen.
  10. I would welcome advice, in this road we have had no collections at all, our collection day is Monday, obviously they could not come. The Southwark site claims that this was remedied on 11th and 12th, our blue bin, now overflowing, has been scheduled on to 22nd! I have filled in the site forms, which apparently has to be done a bin at a time, reporting this but would welcome a customer service email or similar, is there anyone I can speak to? our road is becoming very disordered!
  11. Just walked through the center of the village. Because a few drivers have got through the closure by driving on the pavement, the council has had to put in further measures, sadly nothing like so pretty a space now, all the fault of the selfish drivers whose actions have altered the whole feeling of the new space. I hope that at least one of these drivers reads this, but fear that they are people who just use the area as a useful cut through.
  12. I think that the main object is to try to make the crossing to the shops and the schools less dangerous for pedestrians, as well as making crossing the main road safer for cyclists. True that it also seems to have made an attractive space in the center of the village. There seems to be quite a lot of traffic coming down Court Lane towards the village and either turning round or going left up Dekker Road. I don't know if there is a sign at the far end of Court Lane to warn drivers of the closure. Hopefully drivers will work out that it would be best to stick to the main roads. Traffic from Turney Road which would have gone across into Calton Avenue was turning left into the main road without a problem. So maybe it will not be the disaster that so many seem to fear?
  13. my pass arrived this morning, Good Luck to everyone else!
  14. I have also now received this email saying that my new card is in the post, hoping for the best!
  15. I have just looked at the web-site again and some boroughs have already organised this, but Southwark is listed among the boroughs expected to have provided the new passes by 27th, hope that my pass turns up before then.
