Someone at > royalmail is half inching this stuff!!! xxxxxxx Are you sure because the stuff I got yesterday came direct from Amazon, not other dealers advertising on the Amazon site, and was definitely not via Royal Mail. If you google it there are loads of links to articles about Amazon going elsewhere, here's one: Royal Mail loses Amazon contract However I have received a parcel this morning via Royal Mail from a toy company, and again, it was only ordered on Saturday. I'm not trying to defend Royal Mail, all I'm saying is I have had absolutely no problems with receiving anything I've ordered online, and I order loads. Edited to add link Edited again to say the article says the Amazon contract Royal Mail lost was for parcels over 500g, so maybe they're still using Royal Mail for very light packets

Sorry Thea Gilmore fans, but we won't be booking her in 2010. Maybe some other time. Edited to say: Trying for James Yorkston though, waiting to confirm a date

They were supposed > to have arrived 3 weeks ago, first class, which I > paid for. xxxxxx I've literally (yes - at nearly 9pm) just had a parcel from Amazon of stuff which I only ordered at the weekend. I said to the guy crikey that was quick and he said that they were trying to get things out quickly before Christmas. I didn't pay for delivery at all. It didn't come via Royal Mail. It says HDNL on it, but that could be a reference code. It wasn't Royal Mail

Good ideas but will only reach hardcore Thea fans who are actively looking at her website etc.. We need promotional outlets equivalent to for example fRoots, Folk London, Folk and Roots, Mudcat - and we have absolutely no idea what those might be. For various reasons the balance is tipping against at the moment.
-
Yes, all you write is true (apart from Dave :)) ) An additional dilemma is that our normal promotional outlets are the folk circuit ones, we don't know how to tap into Thea Gilmore fans elsewhere and we have already ascertained that several of our regular punters have not even heard of Thea Gilmore :)):)):)) Although a few more people may get to hear of her soon as she's on a BBC4 Christmas thing with Bellowhead (watch out for the Goose in Victorian-ish costume). Her agent won't be promoting it other than putting it on Thea's website, and as you say she's just done a big tour and consequently people are highly unlikely to trek to East Dulwich to see her again.
-
You want to finance it then Fairport? :)) I was in constant contact with her agent until I asked what sort of audiences she had been getting on her tour, since when I have heard zilch. If you know that she has been selling out venues, then please could you tell me which ones and what size they are, thanks!

Bloody hell, my preparation for an emergency is a couple of cans of potatoes, a wind-up torch and some bottled water in the loft. Memo to self: Must do better :-$

Also, I've ordered a load of stuff online recently, and it's all arrived fine. I'm in Ulverscroft Road. I've rarely had problems with Royal Mail but I did have an incident where a courier left a card to say my parcel was "in the bin" (it was - luckily not on bin day) and another where a courier left a parcel outside my house in pouring rain :-S

pinz Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > amazon just > reported to us that they would resend an item > first class, from which i assumed they would be > using royal mail - fingers crossed they wont! xxxxxxx Amazon did not renew their contract with Royal Mail following the recent strike, or so I read. The last parcel I had from Amazon, a couple of days back, came via another postal service, can't remember which now as I've thrown away the card they left (to tell me the parcel was with my neighbour)

Michael Palaeologus Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > The big Sainsburys on Dog Kennel hasnt put any of > the local shops out of business xxxxxxxxx Erm, yes it has, actually. A couple of local butchers and at least one greengrocer (at the Goose Green end of Lordship Lane) all closed when the DKH Sainsbury's opened. Also a Greek deli which used to be on North Cross Road claimed it was having to close due to business going to Sainsbury's, however my view is that it was more likely to have lost customers due to selling stale bread and cream way past its sell by date (claiming the cream "smelled fine") :)

And I look to my MP to take an interest in local issues, not just "national policy and legislation." The point is, if a complaint concerning Royal Mail is made to an MP, the MP's admin people will pass it to Royal Mail, where it will be treated as a priority complaint - used to be called a "flag case" in my time there - which has to be investigated and replied to within a relatively short time. Same applies to letters to the Chairman, or whatever it is now.

Surely more effective than posting (sic) about it on a local forum???

Why would they send a card advertising services they are not going to offer? Royal Mail always employs casuals over the Christmas period, which is presumably how they can put on extra deliveries etc.. I have regular postpeople who I recognise, and to the best of my knowledge I'm not missing any mail. I agree the service has been erratic lately to say the least, which I assume is knock-on due to the strike. Some people are always going to nick stuff. If there really does seem to be a problem at the local sorting office and you're not getting any joy from customer services etc, I suggest a letter to the Chairman or your MP. Royal Mail will then have to do a proper investigation. I know - I used to draft the letters the Chairman (and it's always been a man so far) sent back! Though don't know who the appropriate person might be these days, might be the MD rather than Chair, but go to the top anyway :)
