  1. Did you get anywhere with this C123? I have the same question! Anyone?? Or- even better- does anyone know a good assessor/surveyor who can look at my house and tell me what we should do to improve heat retention??

We're not a car household, so not sure why I'm getting involved either, to be fair...
  3. Likewise! I swaddled for the first 10-12 weeks though, then into Grobags. No danger of wriggling down, as there are armholes with poppers to fit. I think sleeves are meant to be a no-no though, because of the danger of overheating.
  4. I use washables in a small flat with no dryer or outdoor space! Started at about 3 weeks, following nappy lady advice to try teddies (which I hated) and Charlie bananas, with bumbles at night. We love the Charlie Bananas and the Bumbles, they are great! So much less likely to get poo explosions than disposables, too! We wash every 2 or 3 days, no smells so far. The laundry just slots in, really. Laundry is everlasting with a baby anyway, so the nappy wash doesn't feel too onerous. we also use washable wipes, which are absolutely no extra trouble, and totally worth it. Out and about I bring a zipper bag for the dirties, which is fine. Re cost, I keep track of how many we use, and I reckon they are about half way to paying for themselves now, even allowing a generous amount for washing costs. We are 6 months in, so I expect we will save between ?200 and ?500 birth to potty, depending on how early the potty comes. I like them for environmental reasons, but also because they are very sweet, and I feel I can justify having got fancy nappies, because they will save money in the long run, tons of money if we use them for another baby! I expect to get poorer if I have more children, so this seems like a good investment. Also, they can be resold! You are welcome to my two teddies if you would like to try them, I hardly used them. Pm me if you are interested...
  5. They are not killer beasts from hell, though, so no need for too much panic. The sting isn't very different from a wasp sting, and they are generally slower a stupider than most wasps. Also bigger and louder, so easier to spot! My Mum used to cut them in half with scissors when they landed on the window-sill...
  6. You can search the catalogue online! here: http://www.southwark.gov.uk/info/200062/libraries/1854/search_the_library_catalogue/1 I like the libraries. Dulwich has both the best opera score borrowing collection- AND the best graphic novel collection- of any library system I've used. Although I suppose that might just show me us a bit of a bumpkin!
  7. Jeremy Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Sometimes there could be a good reason - e.g. > making space for a skip or a delivery lorry. Yup, and that's a good time to deploy a Note On A Bin to explain. Also the good reason times tend to be very sporadic. Nobody expects skips and lorries each and every day. I am always really impressed by how kind and considerate people are about bins marking space for moving house etc, and I only recently realised that there are people out there who abuse the system by using it all the time, just for ordinary life! I was shocked, I was!
  8. I love ED, and have been living here since my early twenties! I would say, though, that if you know you will be night-bussing home from work on a fairly regular basis, it would be much wiser to live somewhere you can get to without changing bus. Changing night bus is always time consuming, and some night buses only come every 30-60 mins. Not good on a cold and stormy night, at a quiet and lonely bus-stop... That said, many employers put their staff in taxis if they work past mid-night (I know that in some lines of unionised work it is compulsory, including theatre ushering) so night buses home from work may not be so frequent after all.
  9. Not sure re fundraising, and apologies for a slight thread hijack, but is it possible to donate headscarves/caps? I have a large collection, many unused, which belonged to an amazing and stylish woman, who sadly did not get much wear out of them.
  10. Rich Mix has a very hard time making ends meet, and is publicly funded, so may not be the best model... All sorts of surprising things turn out to work after all, and I hardly think the OP is suggesting opening a cinema as a Get Rich Quick scheme. I agree with the multi-use crowd, for what it's worth. The Goose is Out people, and the crowd who do the open air cinema in the Dulwich park in the summer, might have some good knowledge on the matter!
  11. I walked past shortly after the event, having been booted off the bus, and it was still cordoned off. A policeman very very politely asked us to walk around Piedmont Green rather than through the crime scene, and said that shots had been fired. I can't imagine anyone was hurt, as the road reopened five or ten minutes later.
  12. StraferJack (and RosieH, for that matter) The last two or three times I have been in Rose's there has been no organic meat available at all. I do take this to be misleading when there is a large sign bearing the word organic over the door, much as I would if a shop labelled "fruit and vegetables" stocked only fruit, and the odd cabbage at the weekend. The stuff that is organic is generally labelled quite discreetly, which leads me to think that they are not very interested in their customers being able to tell what is and isn't organic. On the other hand, they are clearly keen that their business be associated with the word organic as they use it so prominently in their branding and packaging. Also, StraferJack, I really don't see why "how it should be" is that birds to be eaten whole should be treated better than birds to be sold in little bits. Just because you do not expect organic chicken breasts or mince it does not meant that nobody else does, from a shop so lavishly adorned with the word organic.
  13. spanglysteve- from the consultation document it looks like the proposed change to the 78 is only to send it a slightly different way from the (current) stand to the first stop. So not really life changing then... Whereas we would actually like the 63 extending by three whole, greedy stops. Entirely too much to ask, apparently. I don't personally see the point of the 78 change- have they been having noise complaints since going double decker?
  14. Ooh, will the 400K TFL project take into account any possibility of extending the 63 route up the hill? I dream daily of it going as far as the overground station at Honor Oak. What with the bus saying Honor Oak on the front of it and all...
  15. Hmm, I'm with Prickle- he refused to mend some sandals for me, as they were not apparently worthwhile. I took them to a guy on the Walworth road instead, who did them (for very cheap, too). They lasted a good two more summers of heavy use, and only eventually succumbed because I tripped on a grate and pulled them apart by accident. That said, the repairs Merryfield has done for me have all been very good, if a bit dear.
  16. The BT Openreach van has been parked on Lordship lane since yesterday (just south of the Mag)- when I passed it late yesterday afternoon they were pumping a load of water out of a manhole- can't tell what they're up to right now, but there are now two vans and a lorry, and they seem to be setting up some weird looking equipment. Crocodiles in the drains chewing the cables?
