dulwich gallery - culture on your doorstep with afternoon tea to boot ;-)

Just to resemble some kind of balance i had haddock and chips from there last night and the fish was fresh with crisp batter (not over-cooked) and good chips :)) however I am not a regular so will decline to comment on whether its gone down hill.....

Just so you know unwins as a group went into liquidation... nothing to do with competiton on LL :) -
possible witnesses of an attack on friday night....
lordship_bod replied to JayOrigin's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi Jay sorry to hear about your friend, hope he makes swift recovery, mentally and physically. Glad to hear they got two of the scumbags. Hopefully they'll put these scumbags where they belong, behind bars, the longer the better. -
thanks for the update liloll - i dont get home from work until 8pm on weekdays but will definitely keep an eye out for them if they hang around ED in the weekend... what really annoys me is that we cant even approach these girls if we see them even though they are only a bunch of bloody teenagers! (i'm not saying that we should approach them, as this in itself is a bad idea, but i'm fed up of having to be afraid of groups of kids in case they pull a knife or give me a good going over! rant over....)

Jah Lush you are not the only one... i still havent got round to sorting my tv channels out...
-
Just in case people dont know, but there is a "free of charge" cash machine in the post office (next to the drycleaners) down the dulwich library end of LL - however this will mean that you have to venture into the "crappy parts of ED" (see previous threads :)

the black cherry seems to me full of women all the time (great if you're a bloke (or prefer the same sex) but not so great if you are a straight chick)..

ooh i'd got to the adulterer's night out ... just dont tell my other half ;-)

this thread is great... i havent laughed sooo much in ages... i have a single female friend moving to the area and i'm not sure where she's suppose to be going to pull.... have done the usual down the lane (i.e EDT, the bishop etc) but she's never been approached (and she is a looker!). while i appreciate there are other places to go to not too far away (i.e stockwell, brixton) the whole point of her moving to ED is so she can stagger home from the bars and be home in 10 mins safely.... may be an event for singles would be a good idea, but then isnt the pressure on and people feel they have to "perform"? my vote goes to the forum do's and other evening classes you can go (although i'm told that the blokes that go to tango are a bit sweaty ;-))

Bombay Bicycle Club to open in Upper East Side

ok a rather dumb question, but can i ask what are the attributes that make people take into account when saying a curry is good or bad? clearly a curry that is not swimming in grease of gee is essential but i'm curious as to what else people are expecting.. for me personally, i'm looking for a curry that is authentic as you can get out of asia (or green street in upton park! - sorry this is east london) which isnt stale and uses fresh ingrediants.... -
i'd have to go for sydenham although i understand the big houses in the conservation area go for anything up to ?800k (stupid money i know, but the houses are huge)... high street does have potential and the transport links are first rate... i dont know an awful lot about schools but i dont think that they are that great? (i'm taking about the state schools here)..

Hi all Has anyone had these guys round to install broadband/tv/phone at all?? I only ask because i've had these guys visit my place 4 times now, and after 4 visits they still havent been able to connect me to anything remotely useful!?! What really bugs me is that each time a different bloke turns up, and each time they have a different excuse as to why they cant do the job (and i've taken 4 days off as holiday for this pleasure!). Am just about ready to through in the towel now and go with sky (yes murdoch is evil, but i'm fed up of my 5 boring channels!) I was wondering whether anyone else in the area has had similar problems or whether i've just got the short straw. thanks.

Has anyone used Foxtons introduction 0% sale fee (Lounged)
lordship_bod replied to rogertebbutt5k's topic in The Lounge
Charlie there's underhand dealing and there's fraudulent signing of documents on landlord/tenants seller's behalf! these guys really are as cut-throat as you can get (and that's saying something bearing in mind how high we hold estate agents generally)... yes if they can get you the best price for your money then all well and good, but can you trust them that they've told you about all the offers that have been made or whether the person you have decided to sell to is really their best mate and for a middle of the range price, they get a kick back.... all i'm saying is that if you are dealing with them, dont ever think that it will never happen to you... -
I have found chopsticks to be overpriced for what it is and definitely wouldn't go back. Mr Liu's is pretty middle of the road (seems to be a hit with families whenever i eat there?) - the only place i can recommend for good chinese is the Penisular in N.Greenwich. sorry havent tried any take-aways.

New Chandelier Tea shop is open....
lordship_bod replied to ednerd's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
ok i'm a big fan of tea and cake so i can say this place gets my vote. have been there only once and had the afternoon tea which was very pleasant. the only downside was that the afternoon tea for 2 would of probably been enough just for me :) and at ?15 a pop that it is a bit pricey. the finger sandwiches were a little bit dry but the pastries were good. will definitely be back though (as stated above, probably when i'm not famished) :) hey how come i dont get a free croisant?? hopefully i'll get one when i work my way to groupie status :) -
New Chandelier Tea shop is open....

On the long walk home from the bus stop to my flat i figured i deserved a break and therefore bought a chocolate eclair to take-away... cost me ?1.60 but it was worth it... am looking forward to the weekend and a spot of afternoon tea ;-) -
while i do agree that the information is out there (has anyone looked at the finance act 2006 for a bit of light reading? - apparently it changed trust law which offered a loop hold for IHT) would anyone disagree with the fact that the richer you are the more likely it is you can "buy" the required advice to avoid IHT? We can all visit a number of websites which may give us an insight into how we can avoid this tax but unless you do it for a living, you probably are not going to know what is the most efficent way of avoiding IHT for your personal circumstance. I agree with *Bob* the people who could really do with legitimately avoiding this tax are hardly in a position to pay for the advice they need. And while i dont disagree with paying taxes to run the country i live in, it would be nice, just for once for someone to show me that the money i pay in taxes is actually doing some good for this country....ok, that another thread altogether...

oooh i have to say i have been waiting for this shop to open for a while... the prospect of a cup of tea and cake does it for me everytime >:D

Lived in london all my life (mostly east) but am currently loving ED! the only draw back is that eventually me and hubby would want to start a family and we probably cant afford to buy a nice big place in ED without becoming bankrupt. therefore when we hear the patter of tiny feet and our flat gets too small for us, we will probably think about leaving london and finding somewhere which will give us more for our money. Also along with many others, i dream of leaving the rat race of the city and when that happens i'd want to leave london altogether...Soo to answer the question, will i be in ED when i'm 70? probably not.....

boo hiss.....these guys are really the lowest of the low....

oooh irish ting. fair enough. sounds good though DM (tu) thanks wee quinnie. i believe i'll be one of the first customers..... i pride myself on rating cream buns ;-)
