  1. bought a cupcake as a treat from them which cost nearly 2 quid and didnt think much of it (i think i should have tried the brownies going on previous posts!) - wont be doing that again. i could bake better tasting cupcakes with non-organic ingrediants and will do so next time.....
  2. have had many lovely meals in springers - all the best brian and jackie x
  3. i have been on many nights out with single girlfriends and i have to say there are slim pickings (i.e not because the blokes are ugly but because they all seem taken!).. alas it is like looking for Eldorado...
  4. have used tesco's a few times and would not recommend them. i think they use the brixton branch as its the nearest one (but not sure??) and food received has always been substituted, close to expiry or just a bit manky (fruit and veg). would suggest avoiding them at all cost.
  5. and Franklins are also in the process of opening their new "food from the home counties" shop?
  6. CO your boss is an absolute moron and i'm sure that you have a decent case against the company. All the above advice is sound so please dont let them get away with this. it is illegal to be treated like this so get some legal help asap. congratulations by the way and dont let the buggers get you down! :)
  7. Welcome CW1! keep an eye out on this forum for people arranging drinks and get togethers - sometimes they seem to happen impromptu :) also i think the ED forum has a curry club if you want to add a bit of spice to your life... i'm sure someone will post who has more details than i...
  8. does anyone else see the similarities between Obama and Tony Blair when he got into power in 1997 or is it just me? i.e the optimism, the "we can make a change/difference speech" ... i'm just worried its going to go the same way for the american people as it has done here... i.e one big fat disappointment...
  9. LuvSnailz i hate to say it but there's plenty more fish in the sea. if she was cheating on you then you are well shot of her. would you rather she stayed and carried on lying for the next 5 years??? certainly not. you are well rid.
  10. I'd go with one of the classics provided by Ladygooner. all you have to do is start with one of those lines and he'll know where its going... (unless he's really thick?)
  11. How about somewhere cheesey like lanzarote or canary islands? have never been myself but thought those kind of places were cheap and cheerful with sun?

  17. agreed i only go to the picture gallery for a special afternoon and really do love their cream teas (sorry Le Chandelier but you dont have a patch on them). i think their mains are quite pricey (i paid ?8 for a baguette and parma ham/rocket) but i saw the price list before i ordered it so i cant whinge really. not somewhere i would eat often though.
  18. 1. give myself a huge salary so i could afford a house in ED 2. make people who have loads of crap in their front garden (i'm talking rotting wardrobes and garden refuse) contact the council within 7 days to remove it - if they dont they get a ?1000 fine. if they dont pay the fine within 7 days they arse gets carted off to prison 3. open an ice cream parlour/crepe place (perhaps replacing tivoli?) with lots of variety of flavours (inc. fat free yogurt if you are so inclined) - i believe LL is lacking in this 4. make everyone on the electoral role do 1 hour of a community activity (of their choice) every month so they get to know the area they live in (and the people) and not just hitch up in ED because of the postcode or school catchment area 5. fine the utility companies if they run over their projected time for utility maintenance! 6. pedestrainise north cross road on saturdays 7. not grant anymore estate agents planning permission to open up on LL (may be think about closing one or two :) ok i'm sure there's more i can do but i need to give it some thought...:)
  19. i'm definitely up for this. its a great idea. ?7.50 is a bit steep but at least you can walk home after the film... ooh i'd be interested in a themed night for musicals or something.. get the whole park singing... p.s breafast at tiffany's gets my vote..
  20. You say it best when you say nothing at all - ronan keaton (puke)
  21. geez i thought it was just ordinary perverts you had to look out for... not blind ones as well......
  22. Smack that - Akon featuring Eminem
  23. whilst i cannot comment on the criminal justice system (having not practised in this area of law) I do feel i am able to comment on SteveT's comments regarding property solicitors. Having worked in a number of firms from high street practices to city firms I do agree the the level of service and costs do vary greatly. While i can personally say that the level of service i have given my clients over the years has never been dependent on "where" i've practised i.e be it in saff london or the city everyone gets the same level of commitment and service I cannot vouch for all my colleagues. Also an unhappy reality of life is that you do get what you pay for, if you go for the cheapest quote chances are you'll end up with some bucket one-stop conveyancing shop and will have to deal with a call centre, if you go for a firm thats more expensive with any luck you should get a decent solicitor who will handle your conveyance all the way through. saying that though, i sympathise with anybody who's gone for a middle of the road quote but still gets crap service - this cannot be justified. Personally i use to work very long hours just to get done what i promised people i would get done, but that was my choice. i didnt get paid overtime to do it, or indeed any benefits. I suspect that there are still some good conveyancers out there that still do this. On the point about why you need a solicitor to buy land here are the main reasons: 1. If you have a lender the lender will require confirmation that the title your buying is mortgagable - conveyancers/solicitors are the only people who can give this confirmation cos they know what they are looking for. 2. Undertakings - solicitors are the only(?) professional body that can give an undertaking. And you need a solicitor to give at least 2 during the course of a transaction. One to the other side's solicitor regarding the deposit and one to the the lender if you are redeeming a mortgage or receiving mortgage funds. Undertakings are not to be messed with - no solicitor gives one without knowing it can comply with it, mainly because if you cant you get struck off and its game over. Without undertakings the transaction cannot complete. With regards to the bankruptcy point all law firms are required to have insurance and therefore if they go bankrupt (or indeed are negligent) any loss should be paid out by the insurance company. Having said that i do not know if there is a cap on the amount having never worked in a firm that has gone bankrupt (luckily). I dont practise residential conveyancing anymore because i found it soul-destroying - i use to work all hours god sent for a relatively small fixed fee (note this is the fee charge by the firm) when i was in saff london just to keep the client happy and do all the work (granted my caseload was probably too big but turning work away is a luxury most solicitors are not allowed to have). even in the city when it was a big fixed fee i was still spending too much time on each file (in relation to the fee that was charged) cos i was doing a thorough job and trying to keep up with all my clients expectations at the same time. cleary SteveT has had quite a few bad experiences with dodgy solicitors but i would say dont paint us all with the same brush. there are a few good ones still out there. And yes for my sins I am property solicitor (hangs head in shame). Ok sorry for the digression, i just thought someone should stick up for property solicitors. Back to Barry George.
  24. my phone once fell down the toilet... there was no saving it after that...
