Scumbag playing loud music on Worlingham road
whirly replied to se22cat's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
It wasn't 32 today, but 68A (the one in the corner which had building work going on for 5 plus years, often blocking Crawthew) sometimes plays his music at full blast. So loud there is no hope of him hearing us shouting to turn it down. -
Rang about a blocked toilet and they came round 15mins later! Very efficient - thanks.

French student wanting host family from September
whirly replied to whirly's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Forgot to say that he will be paying. Anyone with a spare room needing some extra cash?! -
My friend's nephew is looking to stay with a host family in London for the next academic year. He is 22 years old and will be spending the next year of his course - his fourth year - at the London campus in order to improve his English and discover London and the UK. The drawback is that most of the students in that campus will be French like him, so he would like to be in a host family for that year in order to improve his English. If you are interested, please PM me.

I'm interested in this too - could you PM me too please smith?

Steve and Nicola have just re-sanded, filled and varnished our sitting room and hall floor. They have done a fabulous job and it looks great! They are also as powercow says, very clean, (no mess whatsoever) tidy and considerate. From the initial pricing-up to the end they were extremely reliable and punctual and were able to switch the schedule to fit perfectly with family life. Very happy with everything about them and the job - definitely recommend them!

We had Central Carpets at the far end of Lordship Lane (by South Circular) fit ours a year ago and they did a good job.

My 14yo son goes to the one by Dulwich Caf? and the Trinity Hospice shop on Lordship Lane. He always comes back very pleased with the cut. I think it's ?9, but he says he always tells the barber to keep the change!
-
Another recommendation for Steve - he came round promptly and diagnosed that we needed a new dishwasher asap, then came back once it had been delivered to fit it. Excellent service, thanks!

My daughter bought a really cheap kit - ?2 or ?3 from Amazon and did it herself. Very easy - don't pay someone!

Plantain - where to get the best in ED/Peckham?
whirly replied to matnurse1983's topic in Request a Tradesperson
Rye Lane - there are loads! -
Maths, Eng Lit and Lang, Science (core/double/triple depending on the child), RE, ICT, Citizenship, a language and a Humanities, plus 2 options. PE lessons are compulsory, but the GCSE is not. If you take PE as an option, you actually get double the PE lessons! I would prefer for them to not do the ICT/Citizenship and choose one other subject instead.

The 37 bus route/timetable has always been like this - I remember regularly waiting half an hour at North Dulwich only for 3 to come along at once 27+ years ago!

Would you let your 11yr old 'hang out' in the early eve?
whirly replied to Mrs TP's topic in The Family Room Discussion
No. Our 12yo son hangs out with friends after school, but must be back by 7. If he was at a friends house, then that would be fine, but not in the park/on the streets. -
Centre Parcs Holland - anyone done it?
whirly replied to Mrs TP's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Yes, we went to Het Heijerbos (or something like that!) about 5 years ago. The swimming pool was fab and we spent a lot of time in there! There was also an indoor jungle thing and bowling that we did. And I think indoor tennis or badminton? We took our bikes and rode around a lot, but it was very chilly, so we couldn't get the children to play in the outside play areas for very long! The cottages were like Hitlers bunker from the outside, but quite modern and clean inside and reasonably well-equipped. The restaurant that we tried was a typical child-friendly place... -
