Taxi companies for women in labour?
SEGirl replied to Gooders79's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We also used Panther Cars, don't think my husband even mentioned I was in labour. It was early morn on a weekend, my husband said the driver went through all the red lights as there was hardly any traffic about. I was sucking away on gas and air (was hoping for a home birth!) He wished us all the best brought our bags to the lift & I presume left a bit shell shocked!! I think most taxi companies will take you. All the best! -

Hi All The Clock House on Thursdays sounds good to me. My 3 year old will be in nursery for the morning & it's within walking distance, so I will be able to come along with our new little lady who is now 4 weeks old! We have yet to make one of the meet ups & I'm still trying to master getting out of the house with 2 little people, I think we're getting better at it!? Maybe in the next week or two once life doesn't seem so crazy I'll get to meet some of you, there might even be more babies than bumps by then :) Paula -

Hi Ladies Sorry I was unable to make it on Saturday. we were out that morning and exhaustion had set in even though when the little man went down for a nap so did I. Feeling quite slug like these days!! Any other 2nd timers feel more tired this time around? Or maybe I just forget what it's like. I won't be able to meet up on Sun but could possibly do the 19th depending on the time as my 3year old still naps in the afternoon & I'll only have 2 weeks to go...eeek! Hopefully I'll to meet some of you before the little one arrives! P x -

Hi All I received a list from Southwark Council of a list of nurseries and childminders in the area, including contact details and was quite comprehensive. I thought I still had it in my inbox but apparently not and can't seem to be able to find it on the Southwark webiste either. Anyone got any ideas or have a copy they could mail me please?! Thanks

Thanks for the replies. So is there much of a difference between a junior bed and a standard single bed?

Anyone got experience with Hypnobirthing CD's and which one did you find the best? I currently have the 'Effective Birth Preparation (Hospital or Birth Centre): A Self Hypnosis CD Programme (Natal Hypnotherapy Programme' which I used first time around. I found it really useful, particlualry as it would send me to sleep anytime I listened to it! I wanted to add to my collection and hoping for an easier time of it this time around ;)

Hi Would love any feedback or advice on buying a bed for my 3 year old. He currently still sleeps in his cot, but think the time has come to put him in a bed. I'm just not sure as to what kind of bed to go for, in terms of size eg. toddler, junior or full size single bed. Any thoughts please? Ta very much

Hi Everyone and congrats! I'm also due my 2nd at the beginning of March. My son is nearly 3 and there has been a bit of chatter about the little one in my tummy. For those of you with little ones already have you mentioned the next arrival? Don't think I'm going to do the NCT class, hoping that it will all come back to me! Beginning to get excited, feeling the Buba kick, so it feels more real. So much I want to do though, a long list of curtain making, DIY and generally getting some sort of order around here!! X -

Light weight pushchair/stroller recommendations
SEGirl replied to SEGirl's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Amazing thanks for all the great tips and advice! I dropped into Mothercare and they are having a sale on some of their prams, Maclarens included so I might go back and have another look at some of your suggestions. The Maclaren Triumph Stroller comes in at ?108, any one used that? I'll check out the Quinny Zap, which sound really good. I've never heard of O Baby Lightweight, so many prams out there. As I've just stayed with the Bee, I feel like a novice. I would certainly try and buy secondhand but it's the waiting around to pick up a bargain that might not end up being such after all, broken wheel not the exact buggy etc. I'm sure there would be a compromise in what I want or need, but who knows I may get lucky! I'll keep an eye out anyway. -
Hi I'm looking into buying a lightweight pushchair for my toddler. We currently have a Bugaboo Bee which i have loved but he's getting a bit big for it and although it is lightweight (8kg) I want something that is a bit smaller to fold down and lighter to push around. I walk every where so it would need to be sturdy but i don't want to spend above ?100 as I'm not sure that he'll be in it much longer. Any suggestions or recommendations would be really appreciated. Thanks

Thanks so much for all the great info. I'm going to have a look into the course that your friend did, thanks sillywoman. Really interesting that Guys & St thomas are looking into hiring a team of full time Doulas, maybe this is the way things will go in the future?!
-
Hi Saffron Unfortunately Doula UK does not recognise the Middlesex University accreditation, which makes me wary! But I never thought about how that might help me in the future if I did pursue Midwifery. Good thinking! I was hoping someone nearby would have first hand experience, but in the meantime I'll contact them for a chat. Thanks for the reply!
-
Hi I'm thinking of a career change! I would love to study midwifery but with young children and financial constraints I cannot commit to 3 years full time training at present. So thought Doula training might be a good option. Are there are any Doulas that would recommend a particular course? Or if anyone has had any experience of hiring a Doula? I had a look online at courses but I'm none the wiser as to which would be the right/best one. There is one course that is accredited by Middlesex University but they are separate from Doula UK which there appears to be a lot of support for. They are quite expensive and I don't want to make the wrong decision, so any experience you could share would be really useful. Many thanks

Nunhead Library Petition for Baby and Toddler Session!
SEGirl replied to SEGirl's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi Fiona As Penny said a baby toddler session from 2-3 does not work as this is often the time that little children have a nap, so I can't imagine that there will be the same amount of parent/carers and children there at this time. As for Fridays, that is mainly for older children around 5 years old and the younger children often get over looked. There is already a very successful, well attended, group on a Monday morning so why the change, when there is a good sense of community? I understand there have been cut backs, but what is being asked is that not an increase in hours but a change from the planned 2-7 to 10-3, this is still the same amount of hours. From speaking to the library staff they seem to be in support of this. To have the library open 4 days a week from 2-7 does not make a whole lot of sense for those who use the library with younger children. Surely this is supposed to be a place for the whole community to access? Isn't it better to instil the love for books before the little ones go to school? Regards Paula
