Struggling to find immediate nursery places
Cherabel replied to poppy123's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Try Buds pre school in the Goose Green centre. They do half-days and definitely had places a few weeks ago. -
My daughter used to do this. The doctor told me that in under 5's it's rarely caused by anxiety - it's more of a self-soothing habit like sucking your thumb. We solved it by wearing scratch sleeves at night. It's like a little cardigan with silky mittens attached. You can buy them on www.scratchsleeves.co.uk Don't worry. They grow out of it. Very unlikely your 2 year old is stressed and anxious. Xx

Haven't heard of any, but Bessemer has gone to permanent 3 form entry and you also have the new Harris and Belham primaries which weren't on the system last year. So in theory there should be less pressure on spaces.

Goose Green, catchment area for 2014 intake?
Cherabel replied to Susan's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Can't remember exactly, but think the last distance offered was just over 350 metres. -
Try the East Dulwich Academy of music and performing Arts. It's held in Goose Green school on Saturdays. http://www.eastdulwichacademy.org

Goose Green Reception Intake 2014 & Fair 5th July
Cherabel replied to goosegreenpta's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Really happy (and relieved) to have a place at Goose Green. Will add these dates to my diary, thanks. Do you happen to know the last distance offered this year? Feeling a bit sad that several friends have missed out on places. -
Also Goose Green, December 3rd 9.15am. Renata, can you shed any light on bulge classes for East Dulwich this year? Is there anything to replace the bulges taken by Goose Green and Dog kennel Hill last year? Are we looking at a shortfall of 60 places at this end of ED? Thanks

Applying for primary schools: preference vs proximity
Cherabel replied to akc74's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi Akc74 We are also putting Goose Green first and St Johns second, so we're probably in a similar part of East Dulwich. I also share your husband's concern about not getting into either. Both Dog Kennel Hill and Goose Green took bulge classes last year and aren't doing so this time. I know Bessemer are moving permanently to 3 form entry but that still leaves a shortfall of 60 places at this end of East Dulwich. Unless some new bulge classes are announced soon I think catchments will be really tight this year. Luckily Bessemer is also a great school so I'm hoping we'd still get in there if we don't get our first two choices. Think I will also add Bellenden to my list as they also have a slightly wider catchment. Not sure what to put as my sixth choice. Renata, could you shed any more light on bulge classees for East Dulwich? Bessemer can't be the only one surely?? -
Hi LillyD, I've just accepted a place for my daughter at the nursery too, although still waiting for a confirmation letter outlining which session etc. Interesting that the catchment area for reception has shrunk so much, especially as this year was a bulge year. Presumably it'll shrink even further next year if they reduce to one form entry!

Can anyone get through to Melbourne Grove Medical Practice?
Cherabel replied to Sonners's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I've had the same problem. They really are utterly useless. Last week they gave me an appointment but omitted to tell me they were closed temporarily and operating out of Camberwell. Haven't been able to get hold of them since.
