  1. I had thought maybe teething. Happy baby, though, until tired & time for bed.He won't stay asleep once the pram stops and forget moving him! We're lucky to get him off our chests onto the bed. Man, we're exhausted. Hope it's only a few more weeks...
  2. Up until about 3 months old (and after the reflux was medicated) our baby felt pretty much normal. Upset when being put down to sleep but would settle with a hand on his tummy within 5-20 minutes and a normal amount of crying. We had even got to the stage where we could tell when we could leave the room to let him get on with falling asleep by himself. Then 3, 3 1/2 months hit. He went back to waking every 2-4 hours. Also normal, understood this happens. No problem, it sucks but OK. He still settled without too much stress. Then around Christmas he got sick. His grandma, who had been here for five weeks left the week after. Now, we start with a peaceful baby who has nursed to sleepiness. Sit on edge of bed to start sleep process. He starts crying. Now he's crying hard. Now crying REALLY hard. He won't stop crying. 30-40 minutes, laying with baby, trying to comfort him to sleep. Still crying. Bottle feed, again sleepy and peaceful but the crying starts up as soon as an attempt is made to put him down. He used to settle with us laying right next to him, now not at all. Have no time to read the No Cry Sleep Solution as he will only sleep in the pram, while it's moving, and it is starting to take 2 hours each night to get him to go to sleep. What. Do. We. DO??? Will not use extinction method, do not think cry-it-out is OK this young. There probably is no answer. But someone tell me they had the same exact thing and it's better now? Please?
  3. Yes, he's been checked. If he does have it it can't be affecting him much. His tongue isn't flat at the tip or dip in, he can raise it, push it out and waggle it. We wondered about that, too.
  4. Thanks to everyone for replying. Gaviscon is helping with the reflux part but he still writhes around in apparent terrible gas pain and screams his little head off. We have had more stretches of calm but I certainly don't want to jinx it by claiming we're on the way to being done with it all. A certain amount of this is due to reflux but who knows... the rest is likely exhaustion creating a vicious cycle and roping in hunger to add to the mix. Best news we've had is that he is gaining weight bang on schedule despite my worries about supply and his feeding routine. So we have a screamy baby and need to take special precautions to support him through this painful time that we are assured Will End and take on faith that this is true. Serious, grateful thanks for all your support and often amusing words. It's been so helpful.
  5. Hello all, thanks for your replies. I'm the mom in all this with a few more details. Within about two weeks after birth he had begun to settle, would be awake and not screaming, looking around, etc. Then, suddenly, he went back to being a screamy baby a lot of the time. From 0 to 60 in 2.5 seconds flat, we say. He will begin screaming from waking up, directly after unlatching, during feeds, we just can't figure out what is happening and really think it's a combination of things. We use infacol, and when I can remember to give it before every feed it seems to help. He has a lot of gas and also hiccups - all the time, it seems! I've figured out that if he's fussy from the start of the feed it's probably gas, and if he's fussy during the feed after a decent amount of time, I should switch him to the other breast. He eats well but slowly. He seems to have an active period of feeding of about 20-35 minutes but will scream if I take him off after that and will then stay on the breast for sometimes hours at a time. He is still pulling milk as I always see milk in his mouth when I have to relatch or try to take him off. He does not have the classic symptoms of GERD, such as projectile vomiting. The ones he does have are occasional choking during feeds (which I have heard as a symptom of overproduction), sounding wheezy during feeds, fussiness during/after feeds and spitting up hours after feeding. Has anyone had luck asking after this with the GPs at DMC? I'm not too fond of them in general but maybe I've been to the wrong people there. Now that I can ask for specific GPs it might be helpful to know which ones other people have had luck with.
  6. I'll try to pop over. That will be near 4 weeks post-caesarian and I'm not sure if I'm ready to wear or push DS that far. We are me, husband and a son born 8th August. We live in Nunhead. Cheers, Jenne Edit: darn, just realized it's already past four the month. Having a baby sure messes with your time keeping!
  7. Love this. We Americans use the term Developmentally Delayed. A pop within a pop within a pop...oh, how forums work. > > And Saffron, did you really use the phrase > 'mentally retarded', are you American or Ricky > Gervais?
  8. wrap your arms around your chest, each hand on top/back of opposite shoulder, elbows stacked on top of each other (if you're that flexible, if not, do the closest approximation). Your arms will sort of make a V shape with the elbows as the point of the V. This is to stabilize the area so your shoulders don't "drift" while doing the stretches. 1. In a controlled manner, drop your head down towards your arms. Imagine your neck lengthening. To deepen the stretch tuck your chin towards your throat. Hold for 45-60 seconds. Go back to starting point. Repeat 2-3 times. 2. Turn your face so that when you tilt your head down it goes towards your right armpit. Hold for 45-60 seconds. Go back to starting point. Repeat 2-3 times. 3. Tilt your head so that your right ear moves toward your right shoulder. To deepen this stretch you may let go of your shoulders. While sitting on your left hand (stabilizes left shoulder) use your right hand to gently pull your head closer to your shoulder. Don't force it. Hold 45-60 seconds. Repeat 2-3 times. 4. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 with left side. If interested, I am a massage therapist with a small local practice. Please PM me for details.
