  1. My son is in Year 8. He was the first child from his primary school (in Deptford) to attend Kingsdale, having been awarded a music scholarship. I was concerned, as is every caring parent, about the transition from a one-form entry highly pastoral school into the huge and daunting environment of secondary. My fears were unfounded. Ben hasn't been without issues there - both mild bullying and a mild physical assault from an older pupil inside school, and a mild mugging outside of school. Don't be alarmed by these - these incidents happen in every school. However, what matters is how they are dealt with. And I am pleased to say that all issues were dealt with in an exemplary manner, with excellent communication between staff, parent and pupil. Both verbal and email communication have been great. Staff are approachable and really care about their pupils. A little disruption happens, inevitably, in some classes. However Ben assures me that it is dealt with adequately and doesn't adversely affect the learning environment. My second son commences Kingsdale in September and is very excited.
  2. I have a son in Year 8 at Kingsdale - he is extremely happy, feels cared for and is being stretched academically. He is a keen musician and the facilities and opportunities in the Music Department are outstanding. My experience as a parent has been excellent in terms of communication between individual members of staff who I have found always to be approachable and supportive. My second son is less gregarious than my eldest but I have every hope that he will be cared for as much as Ben and settle in very well. Despite it being a large school they care for the children as individuals and nothing seems to be too much trouble. It is a rapidly improving school academically, too, and within the next few years this can only continue to rise. I would recommend it unreservedly.
  3. Hi - have you got this sorted? Have you contacted the Admissions Office - the school is very helpful in my experience.
  4. Richard Swan 07971 294652 is a very intuitive teacher - has been a secondary school music teacher and is passionate about achieving full potential and musicianship in his pupils. He is less concerned about pupils achieving grades, as he is about them enjoying playing the piano. He veers towards a jazz style but can teach all styles.
  5. Do consider Kingsdale - I live in Crofton Park and the P4 goes virtually all the way. I just missed the boat on the improving Prendergast Ladywell Fields (formerly Crofton School) and would now consider it as an option. I was offered Forest Hill Boys (I have not heard a complaint about that school) but opted for Kingsdale because of the music scholarships there. My son is extremely happy and my second son is looking forward to joining in September. If you want further information let me know... Kingsale, although a large school, is very caring and passionate about its pupils. The staff are very approachable and communication between parents and staff has been excellent so far. Its results are gradually improving and are virtually on a par with Forest Hill Boys. re: Askes - I have had bad experiences and not all I have heard is positive by a long shot.
