One point of note that I heard was... "Minority racism can serve as a coping mechanism to respond to perceived racism rather than as anti-white bias. Even when minorities are actually prejudiced against whites, they lack the institutional power or intent to adversely affect whites? lives." I don't know whether that's true or not - but I can see how the "lack of institutional power or intent to adversely affect whites' lives" somehow diminishes the scale or impact of the attack. There are lot's of examples of that from the civil rights movement in America for example. But the problem is that in the end, it serves only to create barriers that thwart any kind of progressive will from the Status Quo to change. On the other hand, how does a minority group then get the kind of attention it needs to force change? There's no perfect answer.
-
And also, I would rather see hatred exposed than pushed underground.....so freedom of speech is what also makes civilised societies able to respond to hatred etc when it is expressed.
-
Oooh I have to disagree with you there Guido. There is no difference between the hatred of one person over another. Of course state endorsed racism is going to have more impact and the state will choose whom it protects over others but that doesn't then in turn demean the act of one person displaying hatred twoards another depending on what 'tribe' they belong to. Most racism anyway is born out of irritation at another group whom is perceived to be 'doing better' out of the ruling system (and a deflection for the racist's own perceived failures). Historical references are then used to justify that racism but in reality have very little to do with anything anymore. The UK has some of the most progressive laws to protect minority groups and those who may be targetted by prejudice. For me, when someone verbally attacks migrants for example, or the man in the clip in the OP of this thread threatens to kill another group, then I just see people who are not happy with their own lives and have chosen a target to direct their frustration at.

Micha is destined for a great career anyway. I think Marcus needs to win most but I think I'd like to see Little Mix win it now :)

Car was hit and run by tipper truck with no insurance!

Also you can make a claim with the Motor Insurer's Bureau (MIB ) with regards to untraced drivers (under the untraced drivers agreement). It's worth having a chat with them. They compensate for uninsured and/ or untraced drivers. Info here -

Err well Baby P was physically abused in the most heinous manner. This child was only being subjected to the foul rant of it's parent. Do we take away all the children of BNP supporters? National Front members? EDL members? Or any parent that has a bad day for example and then lashes out verbally at an innocent member of the public. And why stop there? Let's take away the children of any parent with right wing views.....hmmmmm Prince Philip...the heir to the throne could be in care under that law. It's a big leap from Baby P to that. This woman will be charged and fined probably and be given a criminal record. I think that's enough. And I don't know how from the clip Parkdrive you can assume she was drunk, or medicated or otherwise. She seemed perfectly sober to me, but angry. As I said before, the clip doesn't show what precipitated the rant.

Photographers. Have you been told to move on.

I remember one guy telling me how on one demonstration the police were photographing those taking photographs! -
When I watched the video, I didn't see a woman who was drunk or high on anything......it looked to me as though some kind of row had started for whatever reason (with another passenger) and the woman turned to the most extreme form of insult she could think of (racial abuse). That in no way condones what she said of course but we see that all the time.....someone gets into a row, loses their temper and then says things that are meant to hurt. We don't see from the video how the incident started for example. I suspect it wasn't some ad hoc random rant but precipitated by something between the two passengers. That doesn't excuse, but also doesn't say to me that she should have her child taken away either. If we removed the child from every parent that expresses an unpalatable view then we'd have a bigger crisis of children in care than we already do.

DJKillaQueen replied to DulwichFox's topic in The Lounge
They can't ask you to stop or move on or otherwise anymore. For some stupid reason the Police were given powers to restrict photography under anti-terrorism guidelines but it was so abused that the home office acted. -
Things taht in all honesty you're not that bothered about...
DJKillaQueen replied to ????'s topic in The Lounge
Hasn't that been the problem throughout though.....flaws in handling evidence? They have to be proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt...and there are good reasons for that. The rest is up to the Police and CPS to get their side of things right. -
Sir David - cut out the politics crap
DJKillaQueen replied to silverfox's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I don't think DA is being political either. He's simply pointing out that we live our lives and comsume without considering or understanding the impact that has on the rest of the planet and the things living in it. And let's be honest...he's right. How many minutes on any day does the average person spend thinking beyond what's immediately before them? Because of his expertise he is exactly the right kind of person to be 'informing' us all I'd say. -

But aren't they back because of new evidence? And surely if they are guilty then they should be convicted? -

An innocent young man was murdered and his killers were never brought to justice. In what way was any of that his fault to make you so tired of it? Really bad form CD. -
9' tall pavement advertising hoardings
DJKillaQueen replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Good point Nero. I don't have an objection to the hoardings either. They are almost certainly going to be placed where lots of people congregate...i.e. shopping areas, stations and bus stops and won't look out of place at all. And in these times of cuts any private revenue that the council can attract should be seriously considered. -

I've always considered racism to be a cultural thing rather than ethnically defined anyway. We can all typify certain types of british culture where various forms of racism are common.....similarly I can think of several African/ West Indian goups who hate each other based on nothing more than nationality....and will use what can equally be described as racist language to describe each other. There are Indian and Asian racists and the Chinese are not immune either. They all boil down to the same same thing at the end of the day.

I think that if you provide something like a gas cooker you are responsible for it's maintenance under the 1985 Housing Act as it forms part of the requirement to ensure the utilty supplies are safe. Gas appliances/ boilers etc have to be checked every year and a gas safety certificate acquired if you are a Landlord, that is the law. Either you rent as furnished or unfurnished but if it's part of the tenancy agreement that you provide those things then you are responsible for reasonble maintenace I think.

Back on topic though....if the Russians are in Greece does that mean we no longer have to bail them out?

Iroko can't be ordered in a wider width than it was. You should know that and why. Of course it can be joined. It's used to make flooring and bathpanels for bathrooms for example....how do you think they are joined? And as you say, it the end it was joined and fitted into her bathroom...which kind of contradicts your opinion anyway. When Sue stops with her slanderous accusations, I will stop with responsing to defend myself (which I think is my right). I similarly could get a bunch of pals to post and back me up too btw.

There can never be too much football.....B) -
That and the fact that the majority of Sue's claims were slanderous. Paul please leave it now. I'm no cowboy and twenty years of work (not to mention TV documentary and photographic evidence in this case) can vouch for that. The claims of one unhinged woman (who complains about everything and everyone she ever seems to pay for a service) should not be taken for any kind of truth. I have been very restrained in response to her outrageous behaviour (both at the time and now). There are legal protections against defamation and slander. Admin are fully aware of that.
