Ex council flats in ED- good investment?
DJKillaQueen replied to Jimmybob's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I think the real crime regarding social housing is that much of it was sold at well below market value with no requirement by the owner to actually continue to live in the property beyond sale. Also under the thatcher years local authorities were not allowed to reinvest the money from the sale of social housing back into social housing. Add to that the scenario where the government creams off a percentage of social housing rents (about to change under plans drawn up by the last labour government) it's no wonder that too much council stock has suffered in a shortfall of investment. Morally I am opposed to the sale of council homes and to the then subsequent purchase for investment by secondary buyers or rental by the original buyers. The poorer members of our society are being squeezed enough and the lack of affordable and decent housing is shameful. Rents are at a record high (so much for changes to hb curbing them) and if you are a family crammed into inadequate accomodation and paying a massive whack of your income for it then it's a miserable place to be in life. Having said all that, purchasing an ex local authority flat comes with annual service charges and sizeable bills for communal works. The key is to do your homework. Speak to other leaseholders in the area (there is a southwark leaseholder organisation) and make a balanced decision on the risks from that. -
I had it a month or so ago. Killed me for two weeks and stayed in bed and well away from others. Had a chest infection on top and it was four weeks before my lungs were clear. It's a nasty virus, and easily caught. As always, the elderly, very young and already ill are most at risk.

It is a touchy subject. The daily mail would have us believe that a life on benefits is somehow more cushy than for those in work. For the vast majority of people on benefits it isn't. The average payout for living expenses for a single person is just 67 quid a week. And that is for everything. Food, electric, gas, clothing etc. I defy anyone to get by like that for very long.

I recommend this.... http://lh5.googleusercontent.com/public/Hnj-l954EHv_Q45WMYtiXHFU-fVwE_7I888e-Akm9UDqoHbXEOs5OhzY-WK5gAFBp7wL-etpl1U7xn3KAoPeCXL2xOwy9dJiKhypRSg3v8Nr5cDWJ9bzu641LF8D81V1 Because..... With this all-round Ladyshave you can shave your whole body quickly, easily and safely. The secret is the small shaving head that cuts quickly while protecting your skin. A soft and smooth feeling after every use! Sounds just like the ticket for Nette too B) *does come in blue too!!!!* :))

Sadly all the thieves see is a chunk of metal. These are the same kinds of thieves that steal metal from graveyards......a conscience isn't part of the deal. It wouldn't have taken too long to cut through it with a large petrol driven angle grinder either. They would have needed a van to transport it and bolt cutters would have got through the locks on the gates. Sadly parks are easy targets. Not sure what can be done to protect other statues unfortunately (apart from moving them to safer locations).

Even more football in Peckham Rye Park?
DJKillaQueen replied to jonty's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Can't see them getting anywhere. The land is home to Athenlay FC. It would be like starting a campaign to turn Sainsburrys into allotments because people are doing too much shopping! Completely daft. -
Some touchpads are turned off just by having pressure for 3 seconds in a specific place. On mine it's the top left corner. I suspect thats what has happened. Google search to see what it says for your touchpad to turn it off/ on.

I had this for almost four weeks and was really ill for the first two weeks. You just have to let it run it's course.

John Lennon vs Band Aid with Lennon taking it for me. Pogues are too obvious :D -
Reading 'raw scotch bonnets' just made my intestines ache! As for mustard, I tend to prefer French course grain.......lovely in a dressing or on a steak.

A bacon sarnie is not complete without a dollop of HP....... But I will eat anything anyway.....apart from scotch bonnet chillies......they give me something that as painful as childbirth!

I'm on a budget this year, have a fair few pressies to buy (haven't started yet) and limiting them to a fiver or less per gift. What do the folks of ED suggest are the most festive purchases (for a fiver or less) to be had locally?

Sports-ground proposal, Burrow Road / Greendale
DJKillaQueen replied to Alex K's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hmmm...the first question is why does the current ground need to be replaced? In my opinion it doesn't. DH rarely fills half the crowd capacity for matches anyway. And I say that as a fervant supporter of football and DH. And in my view, the ground is more than adequate for that level of league football. There are currently three astro turfs behind the ground, which admittedly aren't in great shape but can be easily replaced. I'm guessing the application is about extending the additional facilities currently available for hire (so business and revenue related)(and it may be a necessary move to guarantee the financial survival of the football team) whilst also cashing in on the sale of the land of the old ground for lucrative housing development? I don't know what state the accounts of DH are in but no point building a shiny new ground with new stands if not enough people go to see matches. A new clubhouse could of course be better sound proofed than the current one for corporate events. -
LOL....I think those pics maxxi show just how different the two buildings are, rather than how similar they are but I have to admit that it may be that the 'cloud' idea was inspired by the twin towers. I still think the result is an interesting and attractive building....although I know it won't be everyone's cup of tea.
-
I quite like it (them). The don't look anything like the twin towers either. Just because they are tall and oblong isn't enough of a resemblance for me.

They can all sing, but they have different ranges, which can make finding the right songs harder. Stuff will be written for them that suits their styles and ranges though.

Can I appeal against parking ticket with wrong reg no?
DJKillaQueen replied to caz's topic in The Lounge
I think though that if the notice has any incorrect information then it doesn't matter about the photo. A court would dismiss it on that technicality because it's the PCN that issues the charge, not a photograph. I don't know if the authority can then issue a new PCN though. -
Sadly I think you are right Loz. Take That were sent to the gym when they reformed, one Gary Barlow being particularly targetted (and he talked recently about his battle with weight!!!) and Claire in Steps was another that had to work ridiculously hard to satisfy the 'image' demands. The stupid thing is that a camera lense puts 10 lbs of weight on so all these people, presenters etc are under presure to be rake thin. Hasn't seemed to bother Adele though.

I love music and of course xfactor is what it is, but I've really enjoyed watching it. Really happy for Little Mix too. They seem like four lovely young ladies and they can sing. At the end of the day it's about finding 'pop' artists, who appeal to a particular market. That charts are not everyone's cup of tea and they've always had a fair amount of drivel in them since they began (in the 50's?) but does it really matter? And I agree with the Saturday night viewing comments above too......nothing wrong with anything 'old fashioned' either. I wish nothing but the very best of luck to all the finalists.

Why are three of the Etonians looking at the sky?

For once I am speechless!!!! :))

I completely agree with Hugenot. And to make the assumption that every Jewish person in politics subscribes to the most orthodox form of Talmudic Judaism would be equally nonsensical. But substitute Jew for Neo-Conservative and then you may have a point.

Wow.....incredible. She's a little star.
