I got one wrong too H...it was the last one on 'fill in the missing number' which is a bit embarassing because Maths was one of my strongest things at school. For the life of me though, I just couldn't work it out! Still staring blankly at it.

Arsenal are heading for the drop at this rate (maybe not, but I can't remember them having a start this bad for years). My Toffee Boys had a great result today against Wigan...3-1 and Millwall only managed a draw against West Ham. Better than a loss I guess.

St Thomas More Hall closing

The hall was making a profit from it's activities and bar revenue. My colleague is someone in a position to know that. -
What about wallpaper nette?

OK that is not what I want to be thinking about as I am about to tuck into my dinner :))

My money is on the gay butler Thomas (who thought joining the medical corps would spare him any front line horror) finding himself in a front line trench with one of the sons, Mathew Crawley would be about right, and then saves his life in no man's land. Earl Robert, Matt's dad, is so thankful he promotes Thomas to Valet on his return - the position he's always wanted which rubs up the servants no end, esp Mr. Carson (who Thomas had tried to set up for theft)........shall I stop there? lol....

His hair transplant is a big improvement though, don't you think?

I agree Sue..and that is how most children are bullied...and why when adults do it, it is compared to playground behaviour. I have no time for it, if/ when it happens. No subtext that I can see MP, well not from me anyway. -

People can discuss anything they want to. It's a forum. -

I think we all agree that other forums are far worse but that doesn't mean it can't be discussed/ explored. The thread is titled as such for example. Just avoid the thread if it bothers you that much. -

lol.....I've been on more rocky ground than I care to remember AM ;) .....but I never worry if someone disagrees with me. And with many debates there is no wrong or right anyway....which is why a debate can happen. Nothing wrong with passion in debate either. Passion is what gets things done, and changed (hopefully for the better). Anyone who knows me in person knows I will be the first to help, support or encourage if can. My mother used to tell me something repeatedly....'that it doesn't matter what you do in life, as long as you are happy, and inspire others'. It's a good philosophy to live by :) -
It's back on Sunday - anyone as excited as I am?

I would also agree that premeditated intimidation is a form of bullying but there are people I might be intimidated by because they are massively talented for example.....so it has to be an 'act' of intimidation to be considered as bullying. Making fun of someone on a thread might be considered bullying too, if we take Sue's definition, if the person at the receiving end feels upset by it. It entirely depends on the intent. I think that is the kind of bullying that a lot of children are subjected to. -

I haven't seen any persistent attempts to hurt or humiliate anyone on this forum. Disagreeing with someone is not the same as setting out to hurt or humiliate someone. Being brash or assertive isn't bullying either - a bully needs a victim. I'm with MP and H on this...and Lord knows H and I have had some massive barnies....but always out of some major disagreement in a debate, not because of anything personal (we've never met). And yes admin can deal with anyone who sets out to harass or intimidate. The forum is not for the faint hearted at times, debate can be fierce and if there's any chinks in a viewpoint it often is ripped apart by some very dogged and intelligent debaters. I think some people mistake that for bullying because they can't win the debate, then others turn to insult because they can't tolerate a different view point too (that does wind me up I have to admit). And I tend to think that a lot of the clashes on the forum are personality clashes more than anything...or whatever the written word equivalent of that is....and that's just part of life...not everyone is going to like or get on or agree with everyone. -

Welcome to the forum NowAndHere....any kind of debate on it isn't for the faint hearted I'm afraid. Jeremy is right, it's just a forum and as much as some like the sound of their own words (and I've had my moments in that regard too :D ) it's not worth spending too much time worrying about anything anyone writes. Some will provoke just for the sake of debate. You know who you are, as do your family and friends - theirs are the only opinions that matter. -
St Thomas More Hall closing
DJKillaQueen replied to IrishDancer's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Who knows, but it doesn't seem to be very considerate behaviour (let alone Christian) to me. Hopefully with help from Renata and other Halls and community leaders we can get everyone moved somewhere so that as many of the activities as possible can continue, because it's not just about the activities themselves...but the long standing communities that have been built around them....and no amount of money can buy or replace those once they are broken up. -

The problem is Renata that the exisiting activities are struggling to find alternate venues that are available during the week at such short notice. I think we are taking something on Monday evenings from 9pm, but sadly couldn't help the dancing group that asked us regarding Thursdays. And Weekends at Rye Hill TA are booked months in advance by hirers, as is the case with most local Halls. They literally have all been given just two weeks notice on this. -
St Thomas More Hall closing

James there is no dual use proposed here....everything has been stopped to turn the hall into a full time nursery. AM I have a colleague who is heavily involved with the hall and has been for the last 30 years as was her father until his death some years ago. There is no loss of income from elsewhere. The hall and the parish make their revenue from hire of the hall and the bar. If someone hires the hall and wants the bar, the hirer pays the wagers of the bar staff...not the hall. Also the Irish connection is as follows. It is a hall used by the Irish community to put on music nights for example. The Irish Community pay for the hire of bands/ acts etc and that has nothing to do with the revenue of the hall. My friend also tells me that the lack of Irish Festival this year hasn't impacted on that either as these music events are ticketted and the Irish Community take the door money to cover their costs hiring bands etc (and break even over the year). So it sounds like a very similar set up to my tenants hall and we make a profit and we are not even open most of the time. Her view echoes that of others in that the diocese have gone for a highest bidder, for the sole purpose of increased revenue, prompted not by unprofitability, but by a desire to maximise the revenue they can make on the building. And have done so without consultation of those currently using the hall. In fact she was given no notice and then had to argue that there were several upcoming bookings, such as an engagement party, that couldn't be cancelled at such short notice. James, I asked my colleague the same thing...why couldn't the hall be a nursery during the day and still have its range of current activities in the evening. She didn't know the answer, but the hall intends to sell all of its furniture and fittings asap so if anything is going to stop it, it needs to happen fast. I think you will be referred to the diocese if you speak with father Jerry.
