  1. Maybe a better comparison would be my thread thanking the staff at Kings for looking after me so well when I broke my arm? I just think that publically thanking someone is a good thing and provides balance to all the reports of burglaries and thefts and other depressing things.
  2. No cable lock is strong enough (the cable itself, if you strip one apart, is remarkably thin). They are easily cut through with simple bolt cutters. It's a point that has been reiterated many times on the forum...nothing less than gold standard D locks will do. Thieves look for bikes using inferior locks I'm afraid.
  3. I've started a thread before to thank the person who handed in a wallet untouched after finding it on the street. It belonged to a neighbour and had the kind person who found it seen the post and responded it would have enabled my neighbour to say thank you. Can't see anything wrong with the spirit of this thread either Jeremy. SJ must have been having an off moment.
  4. CS...we don't know what it failed on and Loz is right....a failed MOT does not necessarily equate to unroadworthy. Indeed many cars currently legally on the road if given an interim spot check MOT would fail, usually on minor things like the wiper blades or seatbelts etc. The OP was simply asking what we would do...repair or scrap. He wasn't asking if he should continue to drive it or break any laws.
  5. I second Alan on this. ?400 means something major must need work, such as the brakes for example, or is the quote including a service? You would have been given a fail sheet with the failed MOT listing what it failed on. If the garage haven't given you that then ask for it and post what it has failed on. We'd have a better idea if the quote is reasonable then. I doubt if the money you'd make on selling the car would be much over what you'd spend on doing it up to be honest. Dents won't fail the MOT as long as the body work is hole free and secure.
  6. I want to see pics of the bruises :D I had to google 'rubbernecker' - not heard that term before. Amazing what you can learn from a bit of rubbernecking!
  7. Sorry to hear your bike was stolen. These thieves are scumbags. It might help others to know what kind of lock you were using so that they can know what means the thieves are using and use appropriate other locks to minimise their chances of being the next victim.
  8. Premises that apply for licenses based in residential areas (and not on a high street) would never be granted an entertainments license beyond 1am at weekends (unless they had extensive sound proofing) so why should people be expected to tolerate excessive noise from a house party? The party the OP is talking about could be heard all the way from the middle of Peckham Rye Park.....I think that is more than a bit unreasonable at any am, let alone 3 or 4 am.
  9. I confess to farmville on the grounds of diminished responsibility!
  10. I walked past this one at around 2am and it was very noisy...there are guidelines on acceptable noise levels, for both businesses (who must be licensed) and residents (who must abide by the terms of their tenancy or local bye laws). In future call the noise pollution team on 020 7525 5777. They operate until 3am on Fridays and Saturdays.
  11. Have you never seen the movie 'It's Alive' nette? Some very freaky babies in that one!
  12. Loving the emphasis on a 'close fit' :D
  13. Might just be able to make this one....at last :) Thanks Jamie!
  14. There's nothing to criticise about an Irish festival being held on Peckham Rye imo....just the amount of public funding it gets. It does seem to be an overly expensive event for what it is.
  15. We used to buy something called a 'sally lun' which was a huge long sticky bun, ten times the size of one bun...........and filled with cream!
  16. 8.2) An appreciation of football is not compulsary. 69) The ladies footy group is not an initiation ritual.
  17. StraferJack Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > 7) I will, at some point, get cross with you 7.1) You will, at some point, get cross with DJ me.
  18. PSML......oh my Annette......I'm trying very hard not to picture that scene, but not trying hard enough to be successful ;) (we once had a bakewell tart on the half time menu care of one Dita-on-tees) Yes Frankito I do bake cupcakes - made some rum and raisin ones today - very scrummy with a splash of whipped cream I might add :D
  19. We eat lots of cake during half time at the ladies footy sessions. We bake them ourselves too. No recession there it seems.
  20. They've got to stay injury free. Duku was lost last season two thirds in (with no-one to replace him really) when he went to play for Kingstonian I think. The real problem with DH was the incohesive midfield. Always slow to start and just not creative or incisive enough. When they picked up the pace they got forward but against better teams, fitness is everything. Saw too many games lost in the final quarter, from sloppy and tired loss of posession in the midfield. For all his strength at centre back, Duku on his own won't be enough further on into the season when the better teams are match fit and more organised. I haven't seen a DH game yet this season (too busy) to check out the new additions. Will make the upcoming home games finally. Hamlets have got pace in width...they need to use that and swich play more effectively when they run into heavy zonal defence (zonal defending being what a lot of teams at this level seem to prefer). Hopefully this season they can do that.
  21. Apparently the Irish festival cost ?32,000 with ?16,000 coming from the council (maybe James Barber can confirm that). From the festivals I attended I find it hard to believe that anything like ?32,000 was spent on them.
  22. Iceland's ?1.50 frozen thin crust pizzas......
  23. This is what I find works. Simmer the pan with bicarb of soda for an hour or so. Pour soda and water out and LEAVE TO DRY OUT COMPLETELY for a week or so. What happens is that the charcoal cracks and flakes as it dries out...and then it can be chiselled off relatively easily. It is a bit of work but if you really want to keep the pan it works.
  24. I've noticed more foxes where I live this year too but I do live next to Peckham Rye Park and a Reservoir on the other side. I don't have an issue with foxes tbh. I worry more bout anti-social people and the mess that people make. Go and smell any alleyway in Soho on a Saturday or Sunday morning for example. When we suggest culling people for the mess and noise they make then I might support control of the fox population.
  25. Good quality D locks usually suffice though. Many bikes that get stolen are using cheap D locks and/ or those wire locks. There is NO wire lock on the market that can't be cut in seconds with a basic pair of bolt cutters. You need to spend around ?100 on a gold standard D-lock if you want to minimise the risk of theft imo. I say that as someone that has never had a bicycle stolen in 20 years, thanks to a squire UBX and a trelock titan pair of D locks (they cost me ?110 for the two in the early 90's - money well spent).
