I can corroborate that comment too from another very reliable source. I am also informed that it is the diocese who ordered the change of use, and that greed for more income, rather than unprofitability from existing users is behind the change. -

I agree with Loz about all the issues around security and maybe a thread on that might be useful. The Police can usually trace anyone by their IP address if there's a problem and indeed Admin did have the help of a phone company to warn a person who recently kept opening multiple accounts on here and was randomly posting nonsense and pming people. So it's a mistaken belief, that a psuedonym will protect someone who's intent is to bully or harass or otherwise. -

I don't think there's anything wrong with psuedonyms...and most people that use them, do so in forums to protect privacy, and that makes sense. If someone is asking for ideas regarding a holiday they are are going to take in a public forum, the last thing they want is for any lurking burglar to know who they are for example. And at least with a forum or a chat room you can log off and not be losing anything if you never log in again. With social networking sites you can block people too.....so there are ways to remove bullying via those means from your life, whereas if the person bullying is a work or a school collegue (or someone local), that you have to face everyday, then some other action is needed. -

Hmmm on the Irish Festival point.....they supposedly matched the council funding to the tune of ?16k so why can't that money be used? The hall also has a bar too which raises revenue. And there are lot's of other ways to raise funding apart from a one off festival. I'd be curious to know if the nursery is a commercial enterprise and how much those leasing the hall will personally make from it. Must be a very lucrative deal if it is to replace everything that formerly took place at the hall (including evening activities which is when one might expect a nursery to be closed)..... -

It's just one of those things. Bullies have always existed and in many forms. I do think though that that forums and SN sites make it easy for people to bully and say things who would be normally too cowardly to do it face to face as well....and because a written comment is always there (unless removed by a moderator or the author themsleves), it's impact can be much more longer lasting on the person affected. I think most of us, rightly so, have a zero tolerance of bullying, but as Sue says, how do we help those who are not able to fight or speak up for themselves? That's where schools, Police (usually the SNT) and special organisations can play a very important role. -

I echo what others are saying. The social network is only a means for the bullies...they can be directly dealt with via the school or Police in the same way as they would be had they made the same comments face to face. Try those avenues. -

We were talking about the closure at a committee meeting last night as one of our members has been involved in the hall for the las 37 years, and her father before her. She said the change of use was brought by someone who has only been there three months and with no discussion with those currently using the hall or with those that work there runnning the bar. And all that is going too....the bar will be dismantled and all the furniture will go. Not very Christian behaviour really is it. -

Hmm I can't srgue with that lol.......maybe England have just always been crap really, apart form 1966 when they were lucky maybe........which means Graham Taylor really is the worst manager ever! :))

Ed Balls 'deeply sorry' over banking crisis
DJKillaQueen replied to Loz's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
lol....that's funny :)) -
I'll go to bed when I want to AM ;) Did I say France have it right internationally? Did I? lol.....I think not. I have a view, that's all. It's based on my knowledge of the game as a coach and former player and based on Englands results compared to other far better teams. Yes Spain have an advantage when nine of their players play for Barcelona, but that only goes to illustrate the need to bring more English players into first team football at the top clubs. Until we do that, and change some aspects of our coaching system, I think we'll never win another major tournamnent. I might be wrong and hope one day that I am, but I've been saying it for 15 years and haven't seen anything to make me think otherwise just yet.

No it's nothing to do with that one Sue which is all I think I need to say on that (that thread is there for anyone who really wants to see for themselves rather than reading selective commentary). -
It's nothing to do with discipline. They just can't play together whatever the formation (and I do believe they played 4 5 1 under Erikson a few times). To persist trying to make them work is foolish - something Capello seems to now agree with. Lampard looks ordinary at international level because he is ordinary, unless flanked by world class players, as he is at Chelsea. Gerard does better but you are right, he needs something good behind him so that he can get forward and run at defenders. The tempo thing has more to do with the difference in style of international football. You can't dominate a game with tempo (all other things being equal) - you can dominate a game with posession and movement though. The premiership is all about kick and rush....internationally football is all about posession. A great display of that was the last Champions League final when Barcelona ripped Man Utd apart (I'd predicted that would be the case). Once Barcelona have the ball, it is very difficult to get it off them. Even the Women's World Cup was won by a team that played posession football. How can you criticise Spain for lack of strikers....they hold both the World and European cups currently! It's true that Italy's squad are ageing and their home league is starting to see some of the problems we have here, with not enough Italian players coming through. France though do have players in abundance......and it's hard to work out what's going on there. It's characteristic of England to believe it has a great footballing team but the truth is we have an average team. And the results at international level for the last 20 years demonstrate that perfectly. Apart from Italia 90 and Euro 96, we haven't made a single semi-final or better since the advent of the Premiership......now there's something to discuss.
-
Who are the world class players in the England outfit apart from Rooney/ Gerard and Ashley Cole perhaps? Name me just 6 players that Real Madrid or Man Utd even would vie to buy. And I don't buy the lack of self belief nonsense. They all think they are great players and can win trophies....they do so at their clubs. Gerard and Lampard have NEVER been effective in a team together and sucessive recent managers have found themselves having to play players out of position (that's the balance problem) - because they don't have the depth of players to fill the positions. When you see teams like france, italy, spain - they don't just have internationally known names on the pitch...they have a subs bench full of them too. England can't play through the best and creative midfields and often resort to the long ball because they can't keep possession and there aren't actually that many football brains on the pitch. It's been a long time since we've had the likes of Sherringham and Adams and Scholes, players that were able to read the game as well as playing it. But it sounds as though your lad Mceachren might offer some hope in that respect.
-
I look forward to seeing him play but whether he's a good player or a great player, it won't matter unless we find 10 other world class platyers to join him....and that is the problem really.
-
Your car does have heating though right? It's the same thing....vents that air is sucked through and warmed by the engine. Go get'em and good luck!
-
No I haven't seen him play yet (because he hardly plays) but his girlfriend is trying to do a twitcam on twitter as we speak lol....
-
If he's that good why isn't he at the heart of the Chelsea Midfield week in week out? Until his skills are tested at the highest level, then it's wise to reserve judgement perhaps (although his chance will come one he does start playing first team footy). Adult football is an entirely different kettle of fish to junior football as you know, and many players that shine in the U21's fail to make an impact later on, because the overall standard is that much higher. Don't get me wrong, it would be great for England to have a great midfielder again (we haven't really had one of those since Gascoigne perhaps) but who will be the 10 great players around him to make it count?

50p tax rate - perception or impact
DJKillaQueen replied to Marmora Man's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Well the rule has always been 10% of lending (remember the discussion about the federal Reserve and fractional monetary system) so that's nothing new at all......and if any bank had not been operating with the 10% rule they would have been breaking the banking rules. I suspect the journalist writing the piece isn't as informed about the history of monetary systems and banking as he/she should be ;) -
It's entirely possible that a gush of strong wind came up through the air heating/ conditioning vents on the dashboard. When you turn on the air conditioning in your car it sucks in air from under the engine. If you leave the AC in on position when you turn the engine off (as most of us do) the the vent remains open. I'm sure this is what happened and Lambeth will have to accept that.

It might make banks more prudent with their risks too (although part of the problem with the last crash is that banks thought they'd eliminated risk from well, risk). I agree that the timeframe for implementation is too long and suspect this is to appease those in the banking institutions who are reluctant to see any change. -
The only thing a migistrate will care about though is if the parking was paid for....and given that the ticket had been original correctly displayed but blown off the dashboard, I would be very suprised if the council had a case. As MM's example shows, they will leave it till the last minute but they won't want to go to court with this one.
