Easing back into fine dining - any ideas?
CocoC replied to nunheadmum's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Ooooh CFM where is Little Social? Is it another Jason Atherton place? -
Yep another vote here for Steve. Repaired our washing machine quickly and efficiently which was much appreciated given I have a 6 month old daughter and appear to be washing like my life depends on it.

Easing back into fine dining - any ideas?
CocoC replied to nunheadmum's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We had a fab meal with matching wines (which were all great) at Pollen Street Social before I had my baby 7 months ago. We will be rushing back when I'm confident enough with hiring a babysitter :) -
Maybe that's why Franco Manca are spending such a long time having a think...!

Distraction worked a treat for us, so here's a few things we tried: - Sneaking the bottle round the side of her bouncy chair when she was sitting in it 'the disembodied arm!' - Feeding her a bottle while cradling her and walking round the house - Feeding her when on her playmat or change mat Once she'd accepted it we soon reverted to more 'traditional' ways of bottle feeding! Good luck

Hi Jenny My daughter (now 4 months) definitely found it easier to settle when placed on her side. She was a terrible sleeper so I had some help from two excellent maternity nurses/ night nannies who had both cared for numerous babies in their long careers and they both supported settling a baby on his/her side as many prefer it. The SIDS risk is slightly higher when they are on their sides as I understand it, but not as high as when they are on their front. I do however understand your fears about your son rolling onto his front - although again the SIDS risk is very small, but I, like you, would want to minimise it as much as possible! Do you have a video baby monitor? Could you keep an eye on the situation and/or see what he does for naps first?

Bit of an aside but would you consider a home birth? About a year ago when I found out I was pregnant I posted exactly the same question as you on this forum. I ended up getting Lanes caseload care and having my daughter at home was the best decision I ever made. I couldn't fault the care of the midwives before, during and after the birth. The catering was perfect (thanks to my husband :)) and being tucked up in my own bed with my new baby was just perfect. Just some food for thought - completely appreciate it wouldn't be everyone's choice/ it's not an option for some.

That's great news Ireland! How old is your daughter? Getting more sleep makes such a difference! I have a 15 week old and have been working with a maternity nurse/ sleep consultant recently to structure feeds, naps and night sleep. We're not there yet and my daughter is obviously still very small but I'm hoping the days of night feeds every 1.5 hours are behind me....!

October sun holiday with kids - RECOMMENDATIONS?
CocoC replied to tinkerbell's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I'm with buggie - we've been to the Sensatori Tenerife (the Gran Melia Palacio de Isora to give it its full name) twice alone and are going with our 15 week old daughter a week on Saturday. It's a big complex with several restaurants etc. We've actually always booked direct with Easyjet flights and have just done the same again as we priced it up and it was a bit cheaper. We were also able to directly book a one bedroom suite which we thought would be useful with our daughter and all her baggage :). Talking of which, we also found a great company called hire4babytenerife (google it) which is delivering a bouncy chair, play mat, steam steriliser and bath support for about ?45 for a two week hire period. They also hire buggies, car seats etc. -
4 hour flight with a 4 month old - any top tips?
CocoC replied to CocoC's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thanks everyone! Pickle - hats off to you. I can't imagine that! Fragolina - thanks for that - I thought a sling might be useful. Funnily enough Easyjet recommend the same thing in their handy 'travelling with kids' leaflet online. Strawbs and sands - hats off again! Maria - top tip thank you! -
Other than grin, bear it and hope for the best??! She's still at an age where my husband and I are probably more entertaining than most toys but I'll take a couple in my hand luggage. I thought I would feed her around take-off and landing as I read that this can help relieve the pressure in their little ears. She will also be due a nap during the flight which I'm hoping she'll take on one of us but that might be wishful thinking as she's used to napping in her buggy or her bed. Is there anything else I need to think of or take? Thanks in advance to the knowledgeable mums of ED!

Formula milk: Melbourne to London flight
CocoC replied to Bonfire2010's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Sorry to jump on your post Bonfire (I think it was you who kindly responded to mine the other day when I was also trying to find Hipp Organic cartons?) but we're going away at the end of the month too - I'd planned to take all the cartons/ powder I need with me - assume you can put whatever you need in the hold and whatever you need for the flight in your carry-on? Clueless! Good idea to order the powder for collection once you're through security as that's on the bulky side isn't it... -
Things that will make you feel better about your parenting skills

I have only eaten twice with my nipper attached to me in her sling - the first time she got sweet and sour chicken on her head, the second sticky toffee pudding. Both intentionally and very carefully lukewarm. -
Homebirth group Spring babies/water pool advice
CocoC replied to welshjo86's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi Jo I had my first baby at home in early December and am now a bit of a homebirth zealot! I can honestly say I enjoyed my birth experience. Yes, really :). I'd be delighted to grab a coffee with you and talk you through my experience and what I found really helpful. I had a birthpool in a box by the way, which you are welcome to borrow (it will just require a new liner for obvious reasons!). x -
I can only give you my experience which is that my 9 wk old loves hers- she's merrily sat in it from 2 weeks of age. I bought mine on the recommendation of friends who had similar reactions from their offspring. :)
