  1. yes last night my phone went into sos mode again...
  2. it seems that Vodafone has fixed the issue has I have been having full 3G since last night, yuppieee!
  3. I'm having the same issue! as soon as I get home my work blackberry goes into SOS mode and only randomly i receive data! I thought it was to do with my handheld but IT says all ok with it! I live off Forest Hill Road too...
  4. All well and good but what about the bus stops? I had expected at least one direction to be open to public transports! anyone knows when Rye Lane will re-open to busses?
  5. with all the current diversions the 63 takes literally ages to even get to the river...I went the exact same way on Saturday and it took me 1 hour and this with no traffic at all...at peak time it can be a rather painful journey. I second the overground or train to LB and then Northern line.
  6. The note on the usual stop on Rye Lane says: replacement stop is WM on Rye Lane too bad I couldn't see a map that could tell me where WM was supposed to be!it's almost one mile to the next one southbound!
  7. if anyone has got on a southbound bus can you pls confirm that the replacement stop is actually in Heaton road? This would be very much appreciated as I'm not keen to wander around looking for the stop this late evening..!thx!
  8. I was about to post about this; the 363 I was on this morning diverted, the 63 that was following went up Rye Lane...quite random, it seems just luck! does anyone know how long the new road works will go on for? i was so happy that it was all over and done.
  9. hello I just checked national rail website and basically every other train from London Victoria to Peckham Rye is cancelled. what is the reason for this? harldy the snow, is it? thanks
  10. just a bit worried since in the West End has started snowing and given what happaned a few weeks ago I wonder if transports will get to a stand still again...
  11. when oh when will the councils realize that snowfalls in winter in the UK it's not a rare event and start investing in some more gritters etc? I was in Switzerland the other week during a rather heavy snowfall and all trains were on time and the buses had snow chaines....
  12. the 63 bus is not running?seriousy? where can I check for live bus updates?
  13. James great timing for your post! a few of the street lights in Piermont Green have been faulty since I moved there (almost a year ago now). I reported the fault to the dedicated Southwark council office over 10 days ago and I was told that first a "checking " team will have to come and check (within 10 days) and only after that a "fixing team" (10 days later) will repair the lights and change the bulbs etc. So far nothing has happened and it's rather inconvenient and it feels rather unsafe especially now that it is dark so early. These broken street lamps are nr 05 and 06 (this are the only digits I saw but I'll check again and get back to you). Many thanks! Anna
  14. I might run the risk to say something very unpopular but I find the disruption in Rye Lane a massive hassle and I look forward for the roadworks to be over! as someone who doesn't own a car I think that priority should be given to public transports (and authorized delivery van for the shops) and the rest of the traffic should permanently be diverted. it's getting darker and colder and whilst car drivers can at least comfortably seat in the warmth of their car, we public transport passengers have to walk half a mile or more to catch a bus from the train station!
  15. yes this happens ALL the time even when they could just slip the small parcel (books, contact lenses etc)through the letter box and there is not even need to sign off!
  16. I am quite surprised that in this country big dogs are not required to wear a muzzle when in parks and public transports...
  17. can you pls be more specific? when was this exactly?? I live by Piermont Green and the only tape I saw on Saturday was the one of the gardeners planting the grass seeds where previously a hole had to be digged..
  18. Thank you SOOO much for your nice message and the useful advice!! The Guardian's articles in particular have already transported us to these beautiful countries! thank you again, my friend and I really appreciate your message (tu)
  19. Hello All, as I know most of you forum users are very well travelled ppl I was wondering if you could share experiences/advices on a trip to Jordan & Syria. I'm looking into booking a 2 weeks tour with a tour operator (it's me and a friend and since we are two women we thought that a package tour was the best option to get around in those areas) but the offer seems quite wide and diverse and reviews quite sparse therefore I was wondering if anyone has been and/or would recommend a particular tour operator? many thanks!!
  20. I agree with Sue; I'm all for chucking my own rubbish in a bin but as Sue sometimes I had to carry it all the way back home as it's true that in London bins are a very rare thing! it might be for bomb's prevention or similar but a few more litter bins outside stations or at bus stops can be handy! But despite that I always think that the litter bins ppl do an amazing job since stations and parks are quite clean in this country!
  21. I heard the noises you are referring to Sue: I was in the car on the way home and I could here the noise in Crystal Palace Road, and also for a good bit of Upland Road! At first I thought someone was in danger but then realized they were just having a "loud" good time... but yes I also thought it was a bit out of order at that time on a school night!
  22. I am starting to be very concerned with the level of violence and criminal events in this area. I moved to ED a few months ago from another London's neighbourhood where I had previously been living for 3 years and nothing like these recent events seemed to had ever happened there. Ok maybe it's also because there wasn't a forum like this one reporting details etc but in the last weeks I've heard/read about a killing, a stabbing (in full day light!), a mugging at knife point, a group attack and I myself witnessed a lady being mugged in the street in front of Peckham Rye station by a guy on a bike and yesterday the same guy was going up and the down the same road probably looking for his next victim.. Now, at least in this instance the police must now who this guy is but clearly no one had a good chat with him since he doesn't seem to have changed his wrong ways. I really like this area, the parks and all the other amenities but since I'm a young woman I'm also quite sensitive to all these events and I feel my personal freedom very limited as I don't feel safe to walk on my own at dusk (not even the middle of the night!) or in some areas without having to be constantly on the watch out...
  23. hi there just wanted to post my experience and concerns here. I moved a few months ago to ED with my bf, exactly for all the reasons mentioned above: it's a lovely area, with quircky little shops and beautiful parks and you get so much more space then in central London. We are renting out at the moment to see how we like the area with thea idea to buy a property further down the line and start a family :-) However the idyllic experience has been recently overcasted by the discovery that a neighbour likes to entertain "ladies" at his place; it's his personal business and I'm not mentioning this as to highlight the moral side of it, however we have noticed a few gentlemen waiting for these ladies and hanging around the area looking rather suspicious... I am just a bit concerned about the side effects of this, but having said that, short of running background checks on your prospect neighbours, it's a very lovely place to live!
