  1. Goy a deal? That can only lead to Golders Green.
  2. And since Goldhawk Road opens up all animal options... Blackhorse Road
  3. Actually, I couldn't find reference to DC or Brixton on that site, which suggests that they may not be "certified" markets, i.e. no restrictions on what is sold, where it comes from etc. Which doesn't necessarily mean they're not worth going to of course but bear in mind it may be less "local" produce.
  4. I doubt it - I thought the point of farmers' markets was that everything had to be grown/produced within 30 miles? Thanks for all the info and views btw. Will definitely try to get down to one or t'other next time they're on. I'd still like to have one on Goose Green though... If anyone is interested, I found some info on the peckham market here, including a list of producers. I'm sure DC is on there as well.
  5. Try wiki
  6. Well, if you're going to be like that, loz... Dollis Hill
  7. Calm things down? Maida Vale invokes the little-used Baumgartner variation. Surrey Quays
  8. There are probably many more in the world who think the American ultra-rightists would fall into their own category of "useless eaters"...
  9. Fair enough - I thought someone else had posted on here that the offer only applied to the first 200 sellers or something? If the offer applies to anyone and everyone who instructs them on sole agency basis and accepts an offer before 21 Dec it looks a better deal, although 2.5% still looks high if you don't manage to sell in time. What are you selling by the way? I have a couple of friends who are looking in the area (and my commission is very reasonable!)...
  10. Seen a couple of references to it on other threads, but have no idea what it involves! Can anyone enlighten me?
  11. I don't doubt that if you are one of the lucky ones to sell quickly and get the 0% it's a good deal. I guess the main things to watch for if you go with it are: 1. Will they let you know when the 200th offer has been accepted? And assuming you are not one of the 200, are you prepared to pay the standard fee? I don't know how that compares with other estate agents, but 2.5% seems quite high for sole agency. 2. You say minimum 12 weeks - presumably it rolls over indefinitely unless you give notice to terminate, so you find yourself staying with them through inertia. 3. Four weeks notice is quite significant when you are trying to sell your house quickly (especially on a 12 week contract). Can you give notice after 8 weeks (to terminate after 12), or not until 12 weeks has passed?
  12. Did anyone go to the farmers' market in Peckham at the weekend? And was it any good, ie choice, price etc? It's the sort of thing I would like to see on Goose Green occasionally - I know we've got some good shops already, and the Northcross Rd market, but I don't think a farmers' market would necessarily be direct competition.
  13. The Herne Hill Society have some books on the local area which you can order from them direct - details here. Hard to say from the website what the content is like though...
  14. How about the area along Grove Vale/the station end of Melbourne Grove? I know there is a caff there already but it's more of a greasy spoon. And if you were to do take-away Monmouth coffee in the mornings I reckon you could make a killing... The bottom of the new flats is still up for grabs opposite the station.

    Dog Crap

Or you could just take a plastic bag, cut two little holes to poke the rear legs through and then use an elastic bind to secure it round the dog's midriff. No fuss, no mess.
  16. See you there tomorrow then. If anyone needs/wants a lift PM me - should have space for 3. I'm heading down from the Grove Vale end of town.
  17. I can supply a bat and some gloves, and may be able to find a ball somewhere as well. What time are we supposed to meet (and where?)
  18. Put me down as a tentative definite - I'm very keen for a game but there's a chance I may have to work this weekend. If i can head that off I'll be there!
  19. And maybe WHSmith instead of the stationers, and a branch of Fortnum & Mason instead of ED Deli? But what we're really lacking is a nice Wetherspoons...
  20. Excellent. Hopefully i will be around on the 18th. As I'm mainly a bowler though, i'd much rather be playing on a massive pitch!
  21. Are you still looking for players? Haven't played properly for a few years now but quite fancy a game/nets sometime.
  22. If being like Kings Road was the inevitable outcome to White Stuff opening a shop here I think I'd move now! But hopefully the fat bankers with their eastern european trophy girlfriends will be too scared by the proximity to peckham to waste their weekends crawling up and down Lordship Lane in their ferraris and porsches...
  23. Louisa, I think calling them sneaky is a bit over the top. It's not as if they sent an employee on here incognito to pretend to be a 'normal' forumite and big up White Stuff. And as far as I can tell, there was nothing untrue in the original post. The company is owned by its founders (at present), and does try to distinguish itself from the normal High St chains. And like it or not I'm afraid that trying to prevent the "gentrification/poncification of ED" is probably going to put you on a par with King Canute or Sisyphus. But full marks for effort.
  24. Surely the whole "is it a chain/isn't it a chain" is a bit of a red herring. Some chains are multinational conglomerates exploiting poorly paid workers in the Far East to sell low quality t-shirts at very cheap prices. Others aren't. Frankly I couldn't give a toss whether the store I purchase things from is privately/publicly owned, has 1,2 or 300 branches or anything else. If it sells stuff I like at prices I can afford and doesn't (as far as I am aware) overly exploit its workers then it's fine by me. And let's not even start on the debate about when a worker is "exploited". Whether White Stuff fits the bill or not I don't know but I'll be having a look because, to be honest, I've not found anywhere else in ED that sells decent quality mens' clothes. And, incidentally, to describe a chain which is entirely UK based apart from 2 stores in French ski resorts as a multinational seems a little off the mark to me.
