Cost of ofsted registration?
Norfolkvillas replied to EDdownunder's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Plus your nanny will need a current first aid certificate and public liability insurance. Our nanny already had a current first aid certificate, so we only had to pay the ?103 plus ?70 for the insurance. Think there's some info about ofsted reg costs and processes on the nannytax website. It can all take a while to go through so the sooner you get her application in, the sooner you'll be able to get her all set up with your childcare vouchers system (which also isn't always immediate and can take a couple of days). -
I have heard the same as Nunhead mum, and that apparently the way to tell is that with conjunctivitis the whites of the eyes go very red and bloodshot.

Dish and Spoon would also be fine with me. I won't be at Lucas tomorrow as I can't do lunchtimes - it's sacrosanct nap time in my house where we all go to sleep for an hour or two! Would be up for a one-off alternative meet up this week eg Gardens on Weds morning if anyone else fancies it.... no worries if not though.

I have an appointment tomorrow arvo for my baby girl, but would really like to take the opportunity to talk to the doc about a non-serious dermatological issue my toddler has. Does anyone know if this is allowed? I don't want to drag him with us only to find out that there's some surgery policy about one patient per appointment or something? Can anyone shed any light either way? Thanks in advance!

Ok, so I thought I'd better return to this thread and let you know that we finally decided on a name a few days ago - after ruling out ALL five of the names on the list called The Short Shortlist of Names We Both Agree On, we went with a late entry... So our little girl is Alouette Bee, or Lula for short.

Sainsburys with a newborn
Norfolkvillas replied to Norfolkvillas's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Ha! Ok, I'd better post on the end of that thread then! We finally decided a few days ago. Thanks for all the tips above - I was able to easily figure out which were the trolleys that take car seats, and what to do with them, and also knew to take extra care not to run into anyone / thing. There was a bit of a hairy moment with a sainsbury employee who was kneeling to stack a low shelf. No serious injuries though. Thanks again, wise forum! -
Sainsburys with a newborn
Norfolkvillas replied to Norfolkvillas's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Ok will go prepared for either option. Now just need to decide which sling is best. I have a moby wrap, which I believe is similar to the Kari-me I borrowed from a friend first time round. I also have a babasling that someone has lent me, and I have my trusty ergo, but have never used the newborn insert before. I'm thinking the moby wrap might be best for this trip.... Thanks for all the info - feel a bit more prepared now! -

Australian Passport Photos...where?
Norfolkvillas replied to Pam50's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I went to snappy snaps on clapham high st who were well versed in the requirements - they told me the Aussies are actually one of the strictest commissions in terms of adhering to the guidelines.... -
I am doing the family shop tomorrow and taking my 11 day old. Am I imagining that I have seen people who somehow attach their maxi cosis to their trolleys? How have others managed it with very young babies? Any advice appreciated!

Advice on making a nannshare work
Norfolkvillas replied to blondesarah's topic in The Family Room Discussion
In our nannyshare, the other family hosted full time as they had a second child so logistically easier for my one child to go to theirs (our nanny collected him in the morning on her way, and then as our working day was longer, she and my son would come back and spend the last hour of the day at ours, so neither family were doing pick ups and drop offs). I asked the host mum to come up with a figure that would cover snacks and lunches, general nanny kitty (class fees, bus trips, etc), other kids supplies, and the fact that they would need to have their cleaner for more hours. We agreed on a monthly sum and I just set up a standing order. I did supply nappies and my nanny would just collect more when she needed them. Hope this helps. We loved our nanny share, and have only left due to our second baby arriving. I would really recommend nanny sharing. -
Mums Treat day - but where to go?
Norfolkvillas replied to Didster's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I posted on a similar thread to suggest the Espa spa at the Corinthia - easily reached on the number 12 bus. More suggestions on the original thread too: http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?29,880313,880486#msg-880486 -
Hola all, am planning to come to the meet up on Mon. Will be my first outing with the (still nameless) baby! Looking forward to seeing some of you then. Would also be up for a fri arvo meet up avec toddlers, but might need a couple of weeks to work up the courage to venture out solo with two - eek! Hope you're not waiting too much longer Louise!

Furniture (preferably good value of course)
Norfolkvillas replied to dulwichgirl2's topic in The Lounge
Another forumite posted a while back about a French online homewares company who recently launched an English language website, and I was pretty impressed by their products and price range. We got our garden furniture from there, and I'm really delighted with it, as the only other stuff I'd been able to find that I liked was of the Gloster (ie eye-wateringly expensive) variety. www.maisonsdumonde.com -
Harris Girls East Dulwich
Norfolkvillas replied to The Nappy Lady's topic in The Family Room Discussion
It's years away for us too, but I'd be interested to know whether or not siblings get prioritised in secondary admissions in the same way that they do in primaries, and if so, whether or not that would apply to Harris ED boys and girls academies? Ie if my son got a place at Harris ED Boys (to which we are very near), then would my daughter be prioritised for a place at Harris ED Girls (from which we are quite a bit further away)? And whilst I'm here, can anyone contribute any thoughts on generally what catchment distances are for secondaries? I seem to remember reading 800m for Charter, not sure if that's representative of distance-based admissions for secondaries in the ED area?? -
Cyprus I reckon would be reliable for sunshine and pool action in November. We were there earlier this year and stayed at Almyra and Anassa, both of which are extremely well set up for babies / toddlers. 2 hour time difference (in the right direction - our 2.5yo slept 8.30pm to 9am), BA fly direct (4ish hours), no lengthy transfers. Neither are cheap though. Friends tell me that the Madinat complex in Dubai is particularly nice / good for families. Otherwise Desert Palm, set just outside of Dubai, has pool villas in which you could really be anywhere...

Top things to buy for a 1st time mum
Norfolkvillas replied to Sazzle30's topic in The Family Room Discussion
My mother in law made a massive tin of fruit and oat (and treacle and butter) flapjacks that basically fuelled myself, my husband, and all our visitors, for the first few weeks of my son's life. I told her recently that we basically decided to have a second child solely because we would get another batch of them. That was a great present! The other suggestion, especially for a winter baby, is longsleeved vests that cross over at the front - Petit Bateau do them and they're eye-wateringly expensive (for what they are), so make a great present. They make dressing newborns SO much easier, as it all just opens up and slips off, none of this trying to get a vest up over their heads whilst trying to hold them in a sitting position AND stopping their head flopping everywhere. They also have the additional advantage of solving the inevitable how-do-I-get-this-pooey-vest-off-my-baby-without-getting-poo-in-his-hair conundrum! -
Congrats Nat on the latest new arrival on this thread! I'm still working so can't meet up during the day unfortch. Can anyone tell me whether bringing your own pillows to Kings is a good idea. I was told by a zillion people to bring my own pillows (in coloured pillow cases so they don't get mixed up with hospital ones) to St Thomas's last time round, and actually I did find them comforting to have with me. Are pillows still an essential on the hospital bag list? Any advice appreciated!
