Insufficient visual harm - what do you think?
nxjen replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Glazer Delmar's sign didn't bother me but the Winkworth one is hideous. Being at high level seems to make it more intrusive. -
The Co-op that used to be on Lordship Lane where the Haart and the other estate agent next door are did not survive the advent of Sainsburys in the 90s but Somerfield did. For a while the former Co-op premises became a Job Centre. Co-op returned to Lordship Lane when they bought out Somerfield in 2008. I hope the Co-op survives, I'd miss it more than Iceland, but I guess time will tell.

Excellent idea, but to be useful would have to be kept up to date. I am unclear who exactly has flouted the planning regulations: the owners of the wall who have allowed the sign to be erected on their property, and no doubt charging rent, or the solicitors. -

Is this the same sign that was discussed on a thread which James contributed to in 2011? http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,771900,page=1 -

Local woodland / green walks near Dulwich

I'm guessing you know Nunhead Cemetery? I was there this morning, it's looking beautiful. -

I believe from threads on the tube line > extension that it would run to that spot. I believe the suggestion of extending the Bakerloo line to Elephant and Castle and then onto Hayes via a new station on Peckham Rye Common has fallen by the wayside, certainly the alternatives that were consulted on in 2014 were an extension to New Cross via either Camberwell and then on to Peckham, or via the Old Kent Road. The odds on there ever being a tube station on Peckham Rye Common are very long and would meet with opposition (as well as support), even I would join a Save Peckham Woods campaign. The odds on a new renovated Lido being built are much shorter and it's a wonderful idea. Here's hoping.

I would love to see some of these regional dishes listed in that book offered in the local curry houses but instead we get the fare that has been on offer since Indian restaurants became popular in the 1960s when traditional recipes were adapted to suit the British taste. For example, it's claimed that Chicken Tikka Masala, one of the most popular dishes served in Indian restaurants, was invented in Glasgow to satisfy the British craving for meat and gravy. I think the call today is for more authentic Indian cuisine.

Admittedly I was probably in my travelling by bus reverie but the 'Panic Attack' sound described in the original post was different to the sound made by the blue wheelchair button and it occurred throughout the journey. I will pay more attention when I travel by the no. 40 next.
-
I think the driver may be able to change the sound as yesterday I was on a number 40 with a sound that was like a panic attack but the day before was on a no. 40 that had a very discreet ting ting sound.

East Dulwich Hotel - any info on what's happening?

Except whoever is offered the home as a council tenant will have the right to buy after a few years at a discounted price. Crazy vicious circle. -
Or you can collect some garden waste bags from a library or a garden centre and fill these.

If the terms and conditions in working for the NHS become so unappealing for junior doctors then there will perhaps be an exodus of fully trained doctors from the NHS to the private sector. NHS will then have to form more partnerships with the private sector to maintain staff levels in NHS facilities. Outsourcing to the private sector appears to be the end game. Appalling, the doctors have my support.

Just remembered there's some history here which puts it in a different light. Public interest or vindictiveness?

The "Streisand Effect" has been quoted a lot regarding this, i.e. in general most people aren't that interested or particularly want to know what happened UNTIL steps are taken to prevent us from knowing. "Somebody" is just digging a deeper hole for himself.

East Dulwich Hospital Site Planning Consultation

I suspect if the central chateau is not retained there will be a section of the community who will lobby hard to keep it and thus cause more delay to the new school and medical centre which are becoming critical now. I'm on the fence about the modern architecture v heritage discussion. I like the feel of most modern architecture but am equally all for retaining the heritage associated with the former St Saviours Union infirmary building. -
Course you don't know, there's an injunction to stop you knowing.
-
The injunction only covers papers published in England and Wales and the full story has appeared in newspapers in the US. Would the US be interested in VK and TD? It's best not to make certain assumptions ...

Shame in my view as there > is much else that is positive. This is perhaps the pot calling the kettle black, not you Hopone, but a couple of posters representing SSW (I'm sure you know who I mean) constantly posted emotive posts and made dubious claims and then refused to engage in any public debate when these statements were queried or evidence of their claims sought. That would be my definition of goading. It is also provocative, and goading, to refer to an "anti tree mob". It is not a question of being "anti tree", I doubt if anybody is, more a question of having different priorities and a desire to see the cemeteries continue to be used for the purpose they were intended. -
