Crystal palace road - line marking tomorrow??
nxjen replied to Jake L's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
If the work was carried out for gas repairs, can this really be put down to a Southwark Council mess-up? -
A Short Trip Through East Dulwich '98.

Louisa Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Shame no footage of North cross or lordship lane, > > Louisa. Way back in 2007, there was a post which linked to footage of a Green Cross advert filmed in North Cross Road. Looks like the seventies to me?? http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,94576,94582#msg-94582 -
The techie stuff is way over my head but does this mean, as one of those affected, that I can't be banned without the whole group being banned? Hmmmm ...

Do you remember the days when Admin would issue a terse "stay on topic" message?

Louisa Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Quids they were forced out by the threat of > gentrification in the future. > This is such a load of rubbish!!! In the eighties there were only one or two stalls, and if anyone had even suggested then that East Dulwich might become gentrified at some stage the general response would have been "you what?" accompanied by much derisive laughter. Even in the nineties, after the Blue Mountain Cafe opened, there was still this utter astonishment that North Cross Road was becoming "trendy". The main stall that remained in the 80s was a fish stall and he had a large sign on it that said "Support your local fish stall otherwise it will become a thing of the past". Sadly for that particular stall-holder that became reality but it does point to the reason for the demise of the "old" market, it was not supported by locals and was no longer relevant, unlike today's market which is popular and supported.

and this is all the market's fault??!!

That's why I posted, to canvas opinion from those who live close by

Thoughts on buying in the Dog Kennel Hill estate...

These days, if people didn't over-extend themselves they wouldn't be able to buy. -

binmen actually putting bins back to where they were
nxjen replied to Richy86's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
When Southwark Council first distributed wheelie bins, I guess over 20 years ago now, a leaflet was also distributed that instructed residents to wheel their bins to the boundary of their properties on each collection day. Clearly this turned out to be a bit of a lost cause but as regards returning bins to their proper places, the refuse collection service outline http://www.southwark.gov.uk/a_to_z/service/357/refuse_-_household_waste_-_collection states "collectors will put your bin back within the boundary of your property after emptying it", nothing about returning it to their correct places. It's reasonable to expect though that they are not left in such a way to cause an obstruction. -

Surely though this is not just a money making exercise but a means to create more much needed burial plots? -
Burro e Salvia is coming to East Dulwich
nxjen replied to burroesalvalnd's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I hope Burro e Salvia are going to offer a free meal to all those who have posted on this thread for keeping their name prominent at the top of the ED issues section. The detractors do not have to accept. -

There was an interesting thread a couple of months ago regarding the population of East Dulwich ( http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,1382242,1386631#msg-1386631 ) which seemed to conclude the population of East Dulwich has not exploded that much. We do use much more water per person than we did even when I was a kid when for example we only washed our hair once a week (gross!) and very few people had cars to wash. John K though is asking about the amount of sewage - I really wouldn't like to hazard a guess and will leave comments about the increase of high fibre foods to other people.

I don't remember the food being up to much either but as there was so little choice of restaurants and eating out in restaurants a less frequent occurrence than it is today, we probably thought it was a lot better than it was if compared to today's restaurants. -

Don't have to be foody snob not to eat jellied eels, they are disgusting!! And the pie stall on North Cross Road market has been doing good business for many years now though I couldn't possibly comment whether the clientele comprises the aforementioned foody snobs. -

Apparently events took place over 30 years ago which is outside the statute of limitations which is operational in the US.

But Admin, an MP's sphere of influence is primarily with national matters and rarely interferes with local government matters so by asking for people's concerns about Southwark Council she is giving the impression she is able to help with matters outside her potential jurisdication. I don't think the thread that is envisaged can be compared with the local councillor's thread as the councillors who post on that are elected representatives and carry more influence, she just wants an opportunity to knock the labour council and by association a very strong Labour candidate at the next election.
