  1. Have given this some thought... My daughter is in KS2 and doesn't have a mobile. I wouldn't give her one until she's routinely coming home on her own, ie not being picked up by a parent. And then I'd only be happy with her having a relatively basic phone. Would be interested to know what age people are letting their children have smart phones, and how you monitor them? xx
  2. Wage-slaves are also expected to perform day in day out. Yawn.
  3. The Bedlam Bunch are fab. https://thebedlambunch.co.uk/ If there's anything you're not sure about or want something different from their webpages, just get in touch with them. They're lovely and super helpful. xx
  4. Thank you jojop. That is very useful to know. I will pass this information to my friend. xx
  5. Does anyone have experience with myasthenia gravis? Coping with the meds/ pain? NHS access to palliative care planning? My friend's elderly mother was diagnosed with myasthenia a couple years ago. Recently she has taken a turn for the worse, but there is no care strategy in place. My friend is struggling with decision making, e.g. when to phone for an ambulance vs hold off for GP appointment. Her mother is/was very independent and will sometimes try to refuse help until things have worsened to near catastrophic levels. NHS 111 have not been very useful unfortunately. They don't seem to have much knowledge on this condition. My friend wants to help her mother to be assessed by a specialist care team (possibly palliative care), but she's not sure how to get the wheels in motion. Any advice? xx
  6. How many attending, and for how long? I can't imagine you'll get anywhere for free indoors... Unless you mean restaurant that won't charge a booking fee? And I'm not sure where you'd go outdoors in December, without a serious prospect of bad weather? However, I'll be following with interest if anything turns up! My daughter has a winter birthday, we usually hire a church hall for a few hours. For larger halls, expect to pay around ?35/hr. xx
  7. F---ing HAD IT with strangers in public offering unsolicited advice and telling me and daughter how to behave, what to wear, what to eat, how to look. I used to be polite, but now I am straight up telling people to PISS OFF. Glad to hear others supported you. I hope all involved are not too traumatized (except the offending OAPS... they can piss off.) xx
  8. We've had prebiotics and probiotics from Holland & Barrett that you simply mix with food, no real flavour. Regarding the ulcers, what toothpaste are you using? Most toothpastes (even the "natural" ones) have sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS). This is a surfactant that makes toothpaste foamy. It's also an irritant for some people. It can cause ulcers, or worsen existing ulcers. Sensodyne Pro-Namel for children does not have SLS. It's listed for use 6-12 years, but our dentist said for under 6yo just use a tiny smear of toothpaste. This made a huge difference for my daughter. Worth a try. xx

It's not the bonfire itself that is illegal. It would the burning of "toxic" materials (or materials that release toxins) that is illegal, or if the fires were considered to be a "statutory nuisance".

Help-Ma-Boab Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Filed under "Watching brief" > > http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5 > ,1856347 Do the police actually come for reports of noise/ loud party in Southwark? I'm just over the border in Lewisham now. Our "noise team" only works 9am-5pm (or thereabouts), and police will not typically attend to sound complaints unless there is a threat of violence. Just curious. xx
  11. If they are tenants, contact the landlord? You could also try reporting it as antisocial behaviour? http://www.southwark.gov.uk/noise-and-antisocial-behaviour It does seem to be illegal and could incur a fine... http://www.2.southwark.gov.uk/info/200075/pollution/254/penalties_for_polluting I think similar to other types of antisocial behaviour, the general advice is to keep a diary of all the activity as this will support your complaint. Good luck. xx

  13. Interesting thread in the main section on potential changes to the Herne Tavern: http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,1855781
  14. I've no idea about Shimmer and Shine. However, the bouncy castle for my daughter's school fair this summer was booked through 1st-bounce.co.uk. They are PAT tested and insured with a good range of bouncy castles and outdoor games. xx
  15. Silicone-based therapies and sunscreens are definitely useful. You should be using a silicone product both day and night. Am I correct in understanding that the maxfax team were concerned with primary healing from a surgical point of view, but you haven't had any further consultation with a dermatologist or plastic surgeon specifically for longterm scar therapy? In which case, it may be worth asking for a referral through your NHS GP. Silicone products are excellent for scar therapy, but you could also look at IPL treatment, or even laser treatment. Fractional laser resurfacing (like Pixel laser) has a rapid healing time due to the way the laser is pixelated over the skin. But it's not suitable for all skin types, and it may be better for older scars than new scars. This is something you need to discus with an experienced plastic surgeon or dermatologist. IPL is not a laser. It's intense pulsed light. It's suitable for most skin types and has been shown to improve all scar types, though it is a less aggressive treatment than laser therapy. I've had both privately, though it's worth investigating whether your daughter qualifies for some further treatment through the NHS. While IPL is relatively affordable, Pixel laser therapy is pricey. If you decide to go private, you may want to consider a consultation here: http://www.harleystreetpaediatricgroup.com/. They're a paediatric group with GMC registered specialists, e.g. in plastic surgery.
  16. So sorry to hear you're having a tough time. How was the scar initially treated, and what current treatment are you using? xx
  17. Yes, it should be possible to have similar care to that previously provided through the Lanes. There has been a restructuring in case loading and community midwives. More info here: http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?29,1556977 And here: http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?29,1820398,1820398#msg-1820398 Hope that helps. xx
  18. ?150 for a day rate sounds about right currently. It's really hard to tell without any measurements or pics what a 'similar space' would be, or how complex the cutting-in is (lots of angles?). I hope that helps. Maybe if you have any more details, I can give you better feedback? xx
  19. Suggestions here... http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?29,1849041
  20. If no joy elsewhere, try Buggy Pitstop? https://buggypitstop.co.uk/ I've used them quite some time ago, with a bit of a mixed result, not great customer service. But I hear they've improve since then.
  21. Have a look at this old thread... and hopefully someone with more recent experience can advise as well. xx http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?29,1545119,1545119#msg-1545119
  22. Some bicycle repair shops also repair buggies, depending on how complex it is. xx
  23. The Family Room is a wealth of collective knowledge. I've been genuinely amazed and grateful for so much I've learned here over the years. I'm glad your mind has been eased ... and your letter arrived! :)
  24. Get back in touch with your GP or Kings to express your concerns and request clarification. You should be able to see a midwife or GP before your scan, to address your concerns and to help you understand the process for antenatal appointments and care. And congrats on your pregnancy! xx
