  1. Dear all, We moved to the area just over a year ago and absolutely love it - the whole area is extremely friendly and we've been made to feel at home from the get go. Bellenden looks like it's still somewhat in its infancy as an area, but it has a really nice mix of independent shops, bars and restaurants which are superb and I feel will only get better. It makes me pretty chuffed to see all of the other people on this site who actually know and live in the area feel the same way as I honestly do. I haven't actually seen any trouble, although this is central london and i'm sure is prone to problems from time to time, but I think in London you should really be supercareful all of the time irrespective of where you live. As far as certain pos(t)ers are concerned, I think the "polished turd" comment generally reinforces my already very low opinion of you and your crass, poorly informed opinions.
  2. Spangles, I find your riposte about as confusing as the many clumsy comments you have already made. you are now criticising this treatment for its poor economic worth, burden on the NHS and lacking results, whereas a moment ago it was because it was ethically reprehensible. So supposing you are wealthy, prepared to take the risk at your own expense imply that you should be entitled to assistance in having children, whereas the less wealthy aren't, how egalitarian. In this way I now understand you thinking it is a privilege (of the rich) rather than a right. As I mentioned, it was not your opinion per-se that I minded, although I did disagree with it, it was your lofty, ill considered and generalised judgements regarding the circumstances of infertility and their 'merits' as to whether you would allow a flippant gamble on an unborn childs health. If you think IVF is wrong, then fine, but confusingly you think that there are circumstances that warrant this dangerous, selfish treatment. As Ganapati cleverly parrallelled, you are only one step removed from banning people with potential genetic pre-dispositions from having children, and I quote you on this very matter - " Is it fair to bring a child into the world who has a higher incidence of illness because they were conceived in this way? No, it is selfish."......perhaps if there is a chance then they should be aborted, how Christian. So there we are (again), it is your deeply flawed argument that I dislike, not your right to have it. Bellenden Belle, for my money you sound lovely and I wouldn't listen to the one off opinion of a clearly angry Spangle.
  3. Nicely summed up Asset, quite how have you striven to ease world over-population? Spangle, it was your variable religious logic that was grossly offensive to my intellegence. That there were circumstances where you deemed it appropriate to resort to IVF, despite the selfishness of wishing to bear a child with hightened risks to it, e.g. if you were unlucky enough to have had cancer. I freely acknowledge that you are entitled to have your own opinion, I happen to disagree with it, and your sense of conceited piety, but think what you will and let us end this subject once and for all.
  4. I'm in with Asset, I don't really think you can beg for tolerance when preaching your sanctimonious opinions on this forum, how can you realistically expect this to not upset some people? What would you expect people to think and say if you were preaching the pros of ethnic cleansing, even if you weren't "being nasty" in your delivery, only your content? Your neo conservatist fascism, backed up with a dubious half-hearted religious veneer was extremely offensive. I think this should be the end of the matter. Apologies to other forum users for my strong feelings on this matter.
  5. Spangles30, I think that your fatalistic attitude to life is quite extra-ordinary. I completely agree with *bob*, your application of religious views towards the real world seem to be driven by your haughty moral judgement of the circumstances, rather than a stric adherance to the dogma that you claim to believe. It is unfortunate that it is under the thinly veiled guise of religion, that you have taken to publicise your ill-conceived, badly rationalised point. I think it is people like you that are increasingly alientating people from what should the loving, considerate and benevolent embrace of the church, with your contemptable self congratulatory sound-bites. What does your "priviledge" even mean, have you even stopped to think about that? I don't know if you have children, but would you give them up without a fight? Then why should others resist the chance to fight for having their unborn children? by the same rationale, we should resist bone marrow transplants, organ donation and medical treatment at large. As advances in science open our eyes to increasingly complex moral and ethical dilemmas, it requires a great deal of considerations, as individuals and as society at large as to the right way for us to proceed. You spectacularly manage to miss any intellectual worth nor assistance in this debate by your argument. Diatribe over.
  6. not sure if any of you guys have noticed but boards are now up on this church and looks like the developers are moving in! being done by the manhattan loft company who are also doing st pancras - i lived in one of their flats and it was fantastic - but prices start at 285,000 for a roomy 564 square feet!!! what's the view on the loss of the church/public building versus another new development?
